Turn Radio on, press the star key twice to make the CTCSS code flash and use the arrow key to take it down to 00 then press the PTT button to finalise the action :thumb:

Still no joy with the motorola ctcss problem :headbang: Are there any motorola experts on here that could maybe shead some light on whether the ctcss can be switched off? It would be much appreciated. This has all stemed from reading offplanets extreme efforts on pmr 446,and I think it has captured alot of interest in 446 (me being one of them) Thats why I would love to get the old motorola up and running and join in the fun. Thanks again to Lee(firetrap) for his efforts yesterday in trying to find a solution to my problem ..... 73's

Hi, This radio was originally marketed as a business tool, not a leisure use pmr radio. As such Motorola in their wisdom did not include a 0 tone option. They included the monitor button on the face, and when you saw the rx indication on the screen you could open the squelch and see what was being transmitted.
But sadly there is no sequence of buttons that you can push to turn on the pl tone on receive.

Thanks Chris, I think that has put this problem to bed... Thank you for the reply, its a shame really because they are a nice radio and decent quality, Never mind,I've got some Cobra Mt 600's on the way,so that sorts my lack of a 446 radio. Thanks again Chris for you're help on the problem ... 73's

So,for anybody considering the Motorola 446 Handie-pro,they are a great radio with very good performance, but unfortunatly they only work with the CTCSS from 1 to 38 and have no way of working without it being on a CTCSS code. I have now invested in the Intek 5050,which seems to be everything,IMO that the reviews say it is,it is truely a very flexible radio, but i'm sure they probably dont suit everybodys needs for a PMR 446 radio. 73's ...
