Here is a link to a site with some good info on the types of equipment to think about when embarking on some hillwalking- and of course DXing!

CLICKAGE

I suppose it will depend on the difficulty of the route itself how much you take from the list but it seems to cover most grades of walk.

As for the radio list of essentials, aside from the radio, power source and antenna, I would include: multitool thingy (Swiss army knife style) which has screwdrivers, pliers, cutters, blade as well as a few other less important uses such as corkscrew. Mind you.... :)

Insulating tape, cable ties, couple of spare fuses, few choc blocks, 2 or 3 pens incase they dry up when you are miles from home. This is the time it will happen :( Notepad and division list.

Probably loads more that could be in there but that's just off the top of my head meantime.

I'm sure there will be more suggestions from others from which a list could be made up and pinned at the top of this thread.

Some good info on there :thumb:

Being a pessimistic type, I always think "what would happen if I ended-up stuck up there all night" and plan accordingly ;)

One thing I always take is a Hi-Viz vest - easy to spot if Search and Rescue need to come looking for you.

Great item I always pack for the hills is a survival bivi bag only cost £3-£4 . Can double up as an emergency shelter , bivi bag and is bright orange.

@ Slick: Hihi, sorry for the late reply...

Somehow this reminds me of something I believe I'm seeing almost every day. :P

Different quality than the average garbage bag George can be used as a shelter if need be.
I thought the garbage bags were meant to be clear for recycling in Germany for the authorities to nosey in the bags and slap the fines out for mixing tins with paper, that's what they told us during my stint in Munster.

Hihi, yes sorry, I was only joking a bit :) Even though I'm really not sure who would pick you up first, here at my place: The rescue team, or the garbage collection :P

Slick: We indeed have this at some places, or at least, the bags have to be of some special color and brand. But it guess the motivation is more to raise some additional fundsby selling these bags. As with many ideas which are useful in principle, the waste separation seems to become extinct here because of the costs.

There is the more expensive gortex bivi bag which works great combined with the sleeping bag during the summer months for roughing it without a tent or the bothy bags that have had good reports.
For a few quid you can't go wrong for a bit of emergency kit, they also last longer than the average rubbish bag when used as temporary sledge and super fast.
