A 6.25khz step is needed to get PMR frequencies. The closest I can get to them is as follows: 446.0000 PMR446 Ch1 446.0125 PMR446 Ch2 446.0250 PMR446 Ch3 446.0375 PMR446 Ch4 446.0500 PMR446 Ch5 446.0625 PMR446 Ch6 446.0750 PMR446 Ch7 446.0875 PMR446 Ch8 |

You've got a fair amount of "slack" with frequency on FM, it isn't anything like SSB which does need to be spot-on. Just looking at the frequency counter against my DynaScan PMR and it says, for example, 446.092/446.093 on Ch.8, or 446.067/446.068 on Channel 6 . . . The little Cobra reads a clear 446.092 on Channel.8 But I got shocking Feedback when I keyed-up the Cobra on 8, because the Dynascan was nearby on the desk, despite the Dynascan being RX on Ch.9. Obviously a "bit wide" at very short range. Not that I would USE the Dynascans on anything other than 1 to 8 . . . of course not . . . just because the channels go up to about Ch.80, on 431 Mhz . . . at 2w

If you can change the frequency step to 5 kHz you can get very close. I did this with a Yaesu VX-7 a few years ago: UHF PMR446 Chan. 01 .... 446.00625 MHz NFM = 446.0050 UHF PMR446 Chan. 02 .... 446.01875 MHz NFM = 446.0200 UHF PMR446 Chan. 03 .... 446.03125 MHz NFM = 446.0300 UHF PMR446 Chan. 04 .... 446.04375 MHz NFM = 446.0450 UHF PMR446 Chan. 05 .... 446.05625 MHz NFM = 446.0550 UHF PMR446 Chan. 06 .... 446.06875 MHz NFM = 446.0700 UHF PMR446 Chan. 07 .... 446.08125 MHz NFM = 446.0800 UHF PMR446 Chan. 08 .... 446.09375 MHz NFM = 446.0950 |

Yes as you are only 0.00125 out on each channel, not enough to hardly notice.

Welllll, Channel nine cannot possible really exist as there are only EIGHT Legal PMR Channels in the U.K. . . . . So it must be a dream or a figment of the imagination.

On the Continent, "Mainland EU" they do have different PMR Regulations, so a PMR Set intended for EU operation has more channels than a UK one. . . . As usual, here in Britain, we've got the meanest, smallest most-restrictive radio legislation. My PMR has "Channel 86" curerently showing on its display. . . . . But that doesn't exist so it must be my imagination, or bad eyesight. ![]() Or Channel nine on your Intek 505 could even be one of the 10mW LPD433 settings. |

Me and mark in Essex been chatting on pmr 8 lately with other stations calling in,a guy in dagenham called in 2 days on the spin. a good 18/20 mile from us he's using a binatone terrain handi,Heres the good bit he says he's on duty in dagenham as a pcso (plastic policeman) and the force issue them for local comms ????? Dont know if he's giving us B/S**T or not, i did monitor pmr8 for a while and it did seem to me he was using it for work purpose's. Im thinking budgets cant be that tight surely ???

Awesome! The Police move on to tactical frequencies and encrypted TETRA but they're so broke they issue sets that can be intercepted on a £4.95 Kiddie-set from the local toyshop. That's priceless and could only happen in Britain. |

Sounds to me more like they keep the real radios to themselves and issue the toys to the PCSO's... ;-) |

Thats hillariously funny if it is true. I was listening the other day to the PMRs and a gang of learner motorbikers came through "blind spot, blind spot!!!!...." "next left" etc etc |

Get that around here a lot. the most stupid use I have heard so far was a slinger (also known as banksman) using it for a tower crane. These guys were moving tons of kit around the site using a pmr radio & the consequences of another using passing the site with a 5 watt radio when they are on milliwatts is not worth thinking of Incidentally the River Police on the Broads use marine band. It's a good listen if anyone is around here. Drunks, dangerously handled boats, over loaded boats, fires it's all there. |

I can't say I've ever done such a thing but 20w into a high gain antenna at quite a height dissrupts BUSINESSES using PMR's quite a bit. They can apply for a bloomin business license! |

A few of us have been considering setting up a small free membership group & applying for one of the PMR licences that only covers mobile & handheld use. It only costs a few pounds & there is nothing in the rules any where that says you cannot use it for general chat or anything about the number of radios permitted. All that's required to get licensed is a cheque & completion of a form. |
