Since Loki didn't have to unpack anything, she had tagged along with the rest of her team to their new place. Her own house had already been purchased by her father and was already furnished with everything that she and her father would need. He had even made sure that the moving crew put the piano right where Loki liked it. Heck, for all Loki knew, he had had the movers color code her closet for her. While her friends unpacked their belongings, Loki amused herself by amusing Debarun. The two had taken a walk around the neighborhood and found a near by playground. Then she made the mistake of buying him ice cream. Not only did it get all over his face, but he also became much too hyper for the now exhausted teen. Luckily Disney had a way with kids, and before 101 Dalmations was over, he was asleep next to her on the couch. She fell asleep soon after, only barely managing to finish the movie. Only an hour later, or at least that's what it felt like, one of her friends was telling her to get up. She was much too tired to figure out which one, but it didn't really matter. All she needed to do was set her alarm for later and she'd wake up then. Grabbing for her iphone, she touched the screen and it flickered to life. Right on the main screen was the time. And she had about an extra... "Oh Fu- nnel cakes! I'm gonna be late for my first day!" Why her dad had insisted she start the next day was beyond her. Maybe he figured that she would be lonely without him and this was his way of keeping her occupied. Either way, she was silently cursing him for his misguided concern. Running into the bathroom, she borrowed someone's tooth paste and used her finger as a tooth brush. Then she washed her face and stuck her head under the sink to rinse what she could out of her hair. Realizing taming her mane was a losing battle, Loki quickly braided it. Finally she needed something to wear. Her "grunge clothes" aka comfy wear wasn't really school appropriate. Five minutes later Loki was running out the door with a granola bar and apple in hand. She had managed to find a casual dress in one of the open, but not yet put away boxes. The owner of the dress was a mystery. Hopefully none of her friends would mind. After all, it wasn't like she wasn't going to return it after washing it. It took a second or two to hail a taxi, and before Loki knew it, she had finally reached her new school; just in time for the bell to ring. The school administrator wasn't exactly pleased that Loki was late. The blonde had tried to smile and sweet talk her way out of getting repremanded, but apparently the stern looking women thought tardiness was the worst of all sins. After a much too long lecture on school rules and policies, Loki was finally free to go to what was left of her first class. Loki stopped outside of her first classroom before walking in. She hadn't started a new school in sometime and was a bit nervous. Taking a deep breath, she put one foot in front of the other until she was completely in the classroom, which also happened to be one of the smaller auditioriums. Students were sitting in the audience seats, staring up at the stage. Slowly Loki made her way up to the front where an older lady - most likely the teacher - was sitting at a long table. Introducing herself, she was surprised to find that this women was just as grumpy as the last one. Maybe this school had a bunch of chronically tardy kids. Whatever the reason, Loki forced a smile on her face. The teacher quickly explained that this class was putting on a musical for the semester and each person was expected to participate in one way or another. At first the teacher only listed off crew parts that Loki was free to join. Then she sighed an interjected, "You could also go up and try out right now. I'll let you sing any female musical solo, instead of the required one as you haven't had time to prepare." "I'd love to. Mind if I use the piano too?" The kids auditioning had a student accompaning them on a piano just off center stage. Smiling, even though she knew that everyone was watching her, she made her way on stage. This was a test and she knew it. Music programs had to see just how good their newest students were. Slipping onto the now vacant piano bench, the musican took on last deep breath before she began. Looking at the audience, she gave them a big smile. "I'm Loki Roland and this is I'm Not Afraid of Anything from Songs for a New World." Touching the keys of the piano, she began to sing. For the next four minutes she tuned out the watchful eyes and let her love for music take over. She'd deal with the rest of school when she was done. |

There were truly few things in life that had gotten the open homosexual as excited as going to class as the first round of auditions for the semester's performance; this one was called bare: A Pop Opera and centered around two closeted boys whose experience in St. Cecelia's Boarding School was anything but pure in nature. Having already read through most of the scores, the dark-haired thespian had quite a grasp on the emotional roller coaster that this performance was going to present; high highs and low lows with a million places in between, not to mention the satire of both youth culture and that perpetuated by the Catholic Church [another blessing he had been given as a child was not having to deal with the harsh realities of certain religions and his own way of life, for calling homosexuality a choice was the furthest thing from the truth possible]. This performance wasn't for the faint of heart, and with every actor at WWC throwing themselves into what often turned into one of the most heated arguments of the year, there was certainly enough drama to fill in what would have been missed from public schools. Zach was hoping for the role of Peter, the main character who learns throughout the story his place in life, accepting what God has given him, and is, sadly, one of the most hurt by the end of the performance. Matt or Jason would be wonderful roles as well, the only one in which he would have had issue with would have been Lucas, the school's drug dealer. Lucas' song was one of the most difficult as it was nothing but rapping, and that certainly wasn't in the generals' repertoire. School, as it usually did, had its fair share of bumps and hitches, those running auditions were being extremely strict about the timing of things [as if they hadn't learned that theater kids ran on a special form of time that allowed them to be somewhere up to fifteen minutes late and still considered early if not on time]. It was certainly due to the less the raving reviews from the previous semester; there had been some slip ups on stage at the close of last semester's performance of The Tragical History of Dr. Faustus, kids were falling out of character faster than bomber jets in the midst of Pearl Harbor. Apparently the entire group was being punished for the failures of the Freshmen class, it wouldn't be the last time in which some absurd punishment was temporarily placed upon the school in an attempt to fix the incoming Freshman and their lacking refinement in the world of the performing arts. Clad in pink and green polo, jeans with a highly noticeable white belt and converse Chucks, Zach found himself competing against the same people from last semester. The graduating class size wasn't that large anyways, and the kids were known to get to know each other quite well before the time the first real performance is thrown together, and this year hadn't seemed any different. No new blood, nothing to shake things up, and that would make for a boring season. Two songs had been chosen by the young Zachary, the first being almost ironic in its naming; Auditions in which reflected the performance's own audition for Romeo and Juliet, and the second a solo for the character in which the brunette was hoping to get, Role of a Lifetime. Following his solo, someone new walked into the auditorium, late but completely new; this would make for an interesting twist of events. Whoever the girl was, she walked with the same nervous confidence that any theater kid did when going out for a part; as if she wasn't any new to this scene than any of the others acting out their rehearsed parts. Excused from auditioning one of the songs that he others were singing, Zach took a seat in the first row hoping to be wowed and yet still expecting the woman to fall flat on her face during her song, I'm Not Afraid of Anything. Despite her thrown together appearance, the blond was amazingly talented and would certainly be giving Michelle a run for her money for the role of Ivy, although Zach wasn't all that certain how well the girl would want to play the role of school whore. Getting to his feet, Zach approached the stage in hopes of introducing himself to the new girl, she was cute but certainly nothing that Zach would bend over backwards for [she wasn't his type after all]. "Welcome to WCC, I'm Zach Kirkpatrick and it does seem that we'll be spending some time together this semester given that little song...and that girl over there, " turning to point to a dark-haired thin beauty before continuing, "would be the girl whose role you probably just stole...but Mich will totally get over it. Eventually. Maybe. And who would you be?" |

At the end of the song, Loki was riding on a wave of adrenaline. It was one of her favorite feelings in the entire world. And it only ever came about once she had finished a performance. Her heart was pounding in her chest, practically loud enough for the audience to hear. Not wanting to appear pompous or anything, instead of bowing Loki just flashed a smile before making her way off of the stage. She was pretty sure her audition had just gone swimmingly, but then again, she hadn't heard anyone else. For all she knew, everyone here was a musical genius and thought she was horrendously awful. Immediately upon stepping off of the stage, a boy approached her. He introduced himself as Zach. The first thing Loki noticed was how much more put together he was, when compared to her own haphazard outfit. She knew she ought to have been embarrassed, but hey, sometimes people ran late and couldn't look fabulous. After introducing himself and sounding rather pleased that they would have the opportunity to get to know each other, Zach then went on to say something quite unpleasant. "I didn't mean to steal anything. I don't even know what I just auditioned for," she admitted, worried that she had made a grave error in showing off her skills. Role stealing definitely wouldn't help her make new friends, and it wasn't exactly the nicest thing to do to someone either. She knew that if she had her heart set on a role and then a new girl came and snatched it, she'd be rather upset as well. Upset drama kids were never a good thing either. They tended to get nasty at times when others messed with their plans of stardom. Realizing she had yet to introduce herself, Loki stuck out her hand for Zach to shake. "I'm Loki Roland," she said, steeling herself for the typical reaction to her name. The reactions always varied a little bit from person to person, but generally they were all alike. Everyone was shocked by how odd her name was; most also felt compelled to mention how unusual it was. Considering she'd had the name all her life, she was already aware of that particular fact. "Should I be worried about that girl?" she asked, letting her eyes travel back to the pretty brunette. "I really don't want to make an enemies. Considering all my friends live on the other coast, I really would rather make some new friends." |

New students were always shy, coming into a competitive school where every show could potentially make or break a student's career, and the girl with whom Zach had been wowed with after a single performance wasn't any different than any other transfer student. Loki, as she introduced herself as, was something of a fun subject, wishing to fit in [as any new student] which contrasted with the girl's talents when it came to belting notes like some pop diva. Friends were bound to happen eventually, especially with the amount of talent in which this blond had, but the enemies would be much larger, for within any competition there were very few capable of taking the high road when it came to taking on something new and exciting. "You just auditioned for a rather contemporary opera known as bare, it centers around gay teens in a Catholic boarding school and since its almost all vocals, I'm pretty such that Mich will understand why you would be getting the role of Ivy." It was so odd, to think someone who had never before took step in this school would be capable of taking a lead role, but there could have been worse things to happen. "And you won't have to worry about Mich, she's pretty much okay with whatever role she gets. We're all aspiring actors, singers, songwriters, and dancers here; most of us have gotten past the petty differences that come from auditions." It was one of the reasons in which Zach felt so comfortable within the school, the really talented ones had formed an understanding that friends came before roles. It was a dysfunctional family at its best. "Now, had you stolen my role ... it'd be a whole different story..." He kidded, hopefully giving the girl a good impression of the group as a whole rather than the jealousies of the individuals. Taking the hand of the unnamed blond, for she had yet to introduce herself, Zach smiled softly as she finally got around to giving the gay kid her name; Loki Roland. It was special, unique, and far from that crazy, aside from the fact that the blond was named after a trickster god in Norse mythology, it wasn't anything too crazy for Hollywood children. Hell, there were kids walking around named after fruit; "Loki? Well, trickster you'll fit right in with us...I'm one of the few with names that would constitute for normalcy anywhere but the hills of Hollywood, so don't worry about it too much..." Names were often the first practical joke in which the parents are able to play upon their child, for it defines them for the rest of their lives; and this girl was certainly doing all right for herself given her Norse name, one could only hope that she didn't inherent any of the god's devious personality. "Like I said before, Mich isn't exactly the vengeful type... at least not about roles. Taking her Nutella on the other hand is never a good idea, especially when its that time of the month..." There was much worse he could be sharing, and no doubt would be if the two continued to get closer as friends. "So, you hail from the land of Broadway, what brings you over to this sunny part of the country? Wanted to make it big or family obligations?" |

"Opera?" Loki raised an eyebrow. She liked operas well enough, but there was no way her voice could go high enough to be an opera star. On good days she could hit most soprano two notes. For the rest of the time, Loki preferred to keep in the alto range. If they wanted her to be belting out notes only dogs could hear, well they'd be sad to find out that Loki wasn't the girl they were looking for. However maybe opera was just a misnomer and it didn't require stratosphere notes. Before brushing off the musical Loki would go online, buy the album from itunes and give it a listen. She had yet to encounter any musical she hated with a passion, so she'd probably end up loving it. Loki breathed a sigh of relief. Maybe she didn't have to worry about singing in public. Perhaps Zach was right and this school would embrace her. It would definitely be different though. In New York she was idolized to the point where it made her sick. She wasn't that much better than some of the other students. The school still focused on the performing arts, after all. There were many other talented students. Taking her old school life into consideration, Loki decided that this school might be even better. At least here there were tons of talented students at the same level as her. She wouldn't be applauded for everything she did. Instead she could earn respect, but not have to worry about being put on a pedestal. It was a big surprise that Zach knew her namesake. Most people gave her a funny look and then she'd have to explain the history of her name. After all most people weren't familiar with the paintings of Loki that her grandfather had done. Plus Norse mythology wasn't quite as popular as Greek or Roman mythology. "Well I'm glad to know at least my name will fit in," she replied with a smile. It was a perk of living in Hollywood that she hadn't realized. "My dad is a heart surgeon and he was offered to be the lead surgeon of his own cardiology department. Thus we packed up and moved out West." It wasn't exactly the truth, but it was close enough. Loki couldn't tell anyone the real reason: that she was a sailor senshi that needed to find a meteor crash site and L.A. was where the last meteor hit. There was a reason that she had a secret identity and she planned to keep her identity just that; a secret. "You seem to know a lot about the school. Can you give me any other helpful pointers?" she asked, hoping that he would be able to tell her other good things to watch out for. For all she knew, you could only use certain bathrooms and you had to walk on a certain side of the hallway. |

Loki, namesake of the trickster god, was an entertaining new student; her conflicted nature of her innate talents and her need to be accepted would certainly create a unique dynamic for anyone wishing to get far in this town, let alone the school in which she was now enrolled. It was enthusiasm that Zach wasn't exactly familiar with, the want to be liked was something that so many of the students here had given up long ago; their career choices were all about competition, and well ... friends they all may be but stepping on each other's toes in a respectable way was only expected. "Its not your traditional opera, its only such through namesake and technicalities. Since there's no real dialogue within the performance, its classified as an opera rather than belting out the notes people think are capable of shattering glass..." All this girl would be needing was some time to get used to he passive competition that the school thrived upon, time to adjust no doubt being the star of her last school and moving into a place where talent was abundant. "You really don't have much to worry about, aside from fact that the school's not exactly ran like most traditional schools given the focus from both the students and the surrounding city....if you know what I'm saying" The girl was a breath of fresh air, was polite and considerate, no doubt something more genuine than most of the other students were used to, and there was the fact that she seemed almost too innocent for her own good. It was going to be an interesting couple of months this one, she was going to stumble before she would run with the big dogs but she wanted to just be liked, something that everyone craved at some point in their lives. Zach, having been put on the back burned for the most part by his family, has found his acceptance within a group of like minded individuals. his classmates who truly understood where his drive came from. "Heart surgeon eh? I'm sure his medical practice will do wonderfully here... especially if he was offered such a prestigious position. Do you know which hospital he'll be running?" If anything, it was always nice to know things about people, even if it was something as mundane as their family backgrounds. It gave proof that one listened and cared. "Well, I should, I've been here for quite some time..." It was true, as soon as it was possible Zachary had applied to the school of his dreams, it certainly hadn't disappointed. "Basically, to get along be genuine and yourself. We'll in a town of lies, there's no need to put on an act for us...as for classes, depending on what you've selected there's a wide gamut of options for how things could go. Any specific questions?" |

Loki was relieved to know that she wasn't expected to be shattering glass anytime soon. She could hit some soprano notes but she was an alto at heart. Or as her best friend in New York used to call the altos, she was a sasquatch. It wasn't exactly a flattering term, but she knew he only meant it out of love. Plus she wasn't Papa Squatch, so it wasn't quite as embarrassing. "I get it now. That's pretty cool. Though you talk like I already got the role, and you never know, maybe Mich had a really great audition too. I didn't hear it, so I don't know." She wasn't really in the practice of counting her eggs before they hatched, or even at all, for that matter. "I'm excited though! My last school wasn't as music oriented, so some programs were cut. Plus it was much harder to enroll in more than one musical field. This school seems perfectly suited for me, even if it is more competitive. I'm sure I'll get used to that part eventually," she replied, quite sure that she actually never would. Competition wasn't really her thing. She didn't mind playing games and winning and the like, but Loki wasn't competitive at heart. Win or lose, you still could learn from what you did well or didn't do so well. She was the type of girl that rolled with the punches and didn't let things get her down if she could help it. That being said, she was sure that she'd just try her best and be happy for what she managed to accomplish without worrying about other people trying to beat her out for roles or solos. She wracked her brains for the name of her father's hospital. Truth be told, she never really paid attention to her father's work. He worked so much and was home so little that she didn't see him enough to talk to him. They had reached an unspoken agreement that it wasn't necessary to be a big part of each other's lives. Sure he was still proud of her accomplishments and attended her events as much as he could, but he wasn't the sort of parent who made sure she had finished her homework or eaten her vegetables. "I'm afraid I don't remember. My dad works a lot, so we don't talk that much." Loki nodded and listened as Zach explained everything to her. Everything he said made sense and she doubted she have any problem being genuine. She didn't like being a faker, so the school would be seeing her for who she was. "None right now, but I might have some later. Maybe if you could point me in the general direction of my next class?" Try outs appeared to be over after her performance and Loki suspected that she had spent enough time in the office that this period would soon be ending. "My next class is song writing." |
