turn your face to the moonlight
Planetary Alliance

  • Sleep...eternal, endless sleep.
Floating, drifting, for thousands of years...

It wasn't always this dark. We lived on a beautiful earth, once, with emerald green trees and crystal blue rivers, under a starry sky where the moon and the sun shone together in harmony. There was always light.

    Until that day.

We were all there; they caught us at just the right time, and we were completely unprepared. The Sailor Knighting ceremony of the year...it was meant to be a happy time, where the newest Sailor Soldier trainees were to recieve their powers from the Rainbow Cavern. They were so young...so innocent...they were the first to die.

Beryl had wanted to be a Sailor Soldier. But I simply couldn't allow it. Her heart wasn't pure, and I couldn't be sure...if she would use her powers for the benefit of the people. She had finished her training, quite some time before...and had not graduated to the rank of Sailor Soldier like those before her. And not every girl did. But Beryl was vain, prideful...she took this blow as an embarassing one, she let it corrupt her, turn her heart black.

Revenge and hatred are the most dangerous of weapons.

She attacked the ceremony, knowing full well that we would all be there to look on. It was her intention to wipe us all out at once, and she had enlisted an army to aide her in this goal. Beryl herself slaughtered those poor children; they had such potential...their whole lives ahead of them. They were to be our future. She took that away. The era of the Sailor Soldier died that night...

The meteor had been holding to a satellite for what seemed like forever, though it had only been a year since the collision which smashed it into pieces. Three, to be exact: two had continued hurtling towards earth, while the one remained, lodged in the satellite's form. The damage was discovered soon after, of course, and a mission was planned to extract the piece. But these things take time, and it wasn't for another nine months before NASA finally dispatched the team to do the job.

It was an easy enough task, and soon enough they were working on extracting the rock without damaging the satellite any further. But just as they were loosening the satellite's hold, the meteor gave off a blinding light, falling free and into a downward spiral towards earth. When the astronauts regained their vision...it was gone. They could only hope that it had been pulled back into space, rather than shooting down to their planet. Mission completed, they returned to their ship to begin their descent to earth.

Falling...we fell so hard that day.

The Inner Soldiers, those who had once been my own team, immediately went after Beryl's generals, four men she had conned into doing her bidding. The girls looked pained, fighting them. I think perhaps they knew them, but they had no choice. A soldier's duty always comes first -- they had to die.

Things spiralled downward so fast...Mercury, Jupiter, Mars...they succeeded in defeating the generals, but not without self-sacrifice. Venus escaped, and she along with Sailor Moon, my replacement, led me away from the fray. Towards the Rainbow Cavern, the source of all our powers. Each new soldier was allowed to wander into the cave on their graduation day, to allow the cave to speak to them in privacy, to explain their life mission and to lead them in the right path when choosing their powers. They would take a crystal from the cave, and be transformed.

It was a sacred place, to us, but even it was not safe now.

We were followed, by a captain called Aventurine, and Beryl herself. A fight for survival ensued...but we were no match for the hatred in Beryl's heart. Our sacred cavern was to be our grave; Moon, Venus, Artemis and I. But the soldiers did not wish for this to be so. As they died, they combined their power, putting all inside the cave into a deep sleep. We were locked away, into the rock of the cave itself, and it was destroyed -- leaving nothing but a lone meteor, hurtling through space.

There was a full moon over Los Angeles that night. It was rare for the sky to be so clear in a city so busy, but if one turned their gaze skyward, they would see it: a streak of light across the dark blue sky. Some thought it was a shooting star, and made their wishes. Others wondered where it would land, then never thought about it again. Five girls, across the city, would pay a bit more attention.

It landed in an abandoned lot on the edge of the city, glowing as it lay in the rising dust. A cat shrieked in surprise upon the sudden impact, and went to leap away from the site; but did not make it. There was another bright aura from the meteor, lighting the area, and then peaceful silence as the dust begin to slowly settle. The cat, black in color, looked this way and that, before calling to her companion in a feminine human voice: "Artemis...they are coming."

Sleep was pretty much impossible at this time of night. Raye blamed it on her father, but the truth was a bit more complicated than that. She was generally used to his being out at night; there were a great many things that he had to take care of as Mayor, things that often required Raye's presence in case of those notorious photo ops her father liked to pull together. Being in the limelight suited the man, but it didn't suit Raye. She hated being put on parade -- lying to the public and pretending that her father was something like father of the year sickened her. He was nothing of the sort, but in all the time that she had been allowed out in the public eye the dark haired teen had kept her mouth shut. She had never really justified why she didn't start a temper tantrum in public, calling her father out on his inability to stay home and act like a father. He hadn't been there for half the big events that had taken place in her young life. If anything he should win an award for missing the most events a father could miss of his only child. Tonight Henry Hino was attending some Hospital Ball, and for the first time in a long time Raye hadn't been required to attend. She assumed it had to do with a pretty doctor that her father was half seeing; he tended to keep Raye and his personal separated so as to avoid the tension and awkwardness that generally resulted when Raye was anywhere near a potential girlfriend of her father.

She didn't mind it. The dark haired teen had learned long ago that if she objected to her father's dating he would distantly try to win her over -- for the most part the man would allow her an advance on her credit card limit, leave gifts lying around the house with her name attached to them. Whenever those things cropped up Raye knew her father was dating someone new. In the beginning she had minded terribly that he would dare do something like that -- the only reason she had ever objected to his dating was because of the first girlfriend he had ever brought home. The woman had had the nerve to suggest that if things worked out between her and Henry that Raye might have a new mother. Quite naturally Raye threw a fit and punched the woman, giving her a pretty black eye. Since then Raye hadn't seen a great deal of her father's girlfriends, and that suited her perfectly. But tonight ... tonight was different. This woman that her father had been seeing off and on of late was lasting far longer than any of the others. Raye had been able to count on women coming and going within a month's time, but this woman was going on four months now. It was a bit daunting, really. Raye wasn't sure how to feel about it. She didn't need a mother; it was far too late for such a thing now. She had vowed to herself only to accept a woman that would change her father, keep him home, perhaps break him down to apologize for his years of neglect, but she hadn't seen any of that with his current flame.

Perhaps it bothered her more than she cared to admit that her father might one day remarry and restart his family. She kept telling herself that it was only because she didn't want her father to treat others like he treated her that she protested against the notion of him ever remarrying, but she knew that simply wasn't true. She didn't want him to start over and forget about her -- half the time she couldn't even be sure that he knew she existed. Another family would only make her even more invisible than she already was. It wasn't an enticing prospect. Yet these were the thoughts that were plaguing the mind of one Raye Hino this evening. She had given up on sleep hours ago, not that she had really gotten as far as her bed. She hadn't even changed out of her clothing; the teen was still dressed in a plain pair of jeans, tee shirt and jacket. At some point she would have to force herself to bed ... probably with the help of a sleeping pill if it got to be too late. The teen couldn't miss school, though the idea was rather tempting. She had a test to take tomorrow, not that she had been able to study. Her mind had been going over and over her father's latest relationship, analyzing it and tearing it apart as best she could. She hated that she could do this to herself. He wasn't worth the aggravation, and yet it happened every time he dated someone new. One of these days she would have to find something else to occupy her time. Perhaps a boyfriend, though that thought alone was more than enough to make Raye snort in derision. She was too picky about men to think she would ever find Mister Right here in Los Angeles.

Brown eyes darted toward the window that she was currently leaning against, blinking as they caught sight of something darting across the sky. Raye wasn't sure why, but the moving object had caught her attention, forcing her thoughts away from her father and his new girlfriend. She sat there beside her window for a moment longer, contemplating why she felt the object had been unusually close to Earth than other falling stars, and then suddenly her body seemed to be moving of its own accord. Raye couldn't say what she was thinking, mostly because she didn't think she was thinking. All she knew was that she was pushing open the window of her bedroom, reaching out toward the gutter that was her favorite escape route. Climbing down it Raye told herself she was merely curious about the object. The thing seemed to have fallen to Earth, and why she thought it had fallen near the city was beyond her, but here she was on her way to hunt it down. It wasn't a particularly bright idea, especially as she was going to be sneaking off her own grounds to find it -- her father would kill her if he knew she had gone out this late at night without some form of an escort, but getting someone to drive her in the car would only result in more questions than Raye had answers. No, it would be better to just make her way there on her own and see what it was that had fallen from the sky. Getting off the grounds was fairly easy; Raye had been sneaking out for ages now that it was almost second nature to go up and over the wall around the house and drop down onto the deserted driveway leading down into town.

And though she didn't know where she was going, something else seemed to be leading her in the direction of that fallen object, whatever it may be. Raye had the oddest feeling as she made her way toward the crash site, however, that whatever she found there was going to change her life in a way she had never thought possible.

    Crash landings sucked.

That was the first thought that entered Artemis' groggy mind as he pushed himself into consciousness. Everything seemed to be a general jumble of thoughts right now, and he honestly couldn't make sense of it no matter how hard he tried. Truth be told, he was still trying to remember what had happened that had led to such a landing, but nothing seemed to spring to mind. Artemis remembered being with Luna, which was generally always the case on the moon ... then he remembered the Soldiers ... ahh, so that was it. Little by little Artemis' final memory on the moon came back to him, filling in only a single blanket of time. What had happened after that? The Soldiers had banded together with their powers, and then there had been a rather bright flash of light and then ... and then everything had gone dark. Well, that certainly didn't make a great deal of sense. What on earth did it all mean? Perhaps he better wake himself up a bit more and ask Luna about it ... oh gods, he hoped Luna was alright! What if something had happened to her in that bright flash of light? Oh, Artemis would never forgive himself if he had been knocked out while she had needed him the most. It was this very thought that pushed him back into the land of the living, his head going up quickly, swimming ever so lightly at the quick movement, his eyes darting about for the familiar figure of Luna ... and what did he find? Alien sights. Absolutely nothing that Artemis came across in his visual search for Luna reminded him of anything familiar. He was in strange surroundings, and he couldn't think how he had gotten to be there. What had happened? Where was he? And, more importantly, where was Luna?

He shook his head as he forced the questions away, his fur tickling the ends of his whiskers as he did so ... wait, whiskers? Fur? Artemis blinked, his eyes widening to the size of saucers as he glanced down at himself. Paws. He saw two white little paws on the ground before him. He turned his head to the side and felt himself pale. All he could see was white fur, like that of an animal. That couldn't be right. It simply couldn't. He clearly remembered being human at the time of the bright flash of light ... unless the power of the Soldiers had backfired and turned him into a cat. If that was the case then Artemis was going to have a nice little chat with them. Unfortunately, that thought struck him as being quite wrong. For some reason or another he felt as though he couldn't have a chat with the girls, that too much time had passed since then. Now why did he think like that? It couldn't have been more than a few hours since that flash of light ... Artemis wasn't normally a hard sleeper, not unless he had a great deal of alcohol in him, and he was pretty darn sure he had been sober going into battle ... oh right, battle. Things fell into place pretty quickly after that. The flash of light had been used to protect the powers of the Soldiers, sending himself and Luna with it. But how much time had passed since then, and why was he in the body of a cat? He didn't generally like cats, or animals. Artemis had never been much of a pet person, and now to find that he was in the body of something that actually resembled a pet? It was ludicrous. Where was Luna? She would certainly have an explanation for this.

It was precisely at that moment that Luna's voice came from a little ways ahead of Artemis. The now white cat glanced her way, blanching as he realized she too was a cat, but a black one. This was terrible! How were the supposed to act as guardians in the bodies of cats? He didn't even know how to walk on four legs! And no, that time he had been drunk and dared to act like a lion in front of the king of Mercury did not count. He had been drunk and had no real recollection of it other than what his friends had told him the day after the incident. Artemis had to shake his head again to get his thoughts back on track. He was a cat! What good was he as a cat? What would he be able to accomplish? He was small and tiny and ... a cat! This was terrible. There had to be a way to reverse the whole thing and make him human again ... right? He and Luna couldn't be expected to stay in cat forms forever, could they? And what did Luna think of all this? Artemis glanced in her direction again, his eyes narrowing at her kitty form before the words she had spoken finally filtered through his brain. Coming. Who was coming? He blinked in confusion before it dawned on him that she meant the Soldiers. That's who they were. That was the only possible explanation, really. Luna had always put her duty before anything else; it was one of the things he loved about her. "Well, if they're coming they can bring a wagon too,"
he muttered aloud. "How am I supposed to walk around on four legs?" He was in a rather grouchy mood now, but Artemis felt he was owed such a mood.

He was on a planet he didn't readily recognize, he was in the form of a cat, and all that he had once known seemed lost forever. He didn't dare think things could get any worse, but Artemis was fairly sure it could should he invoke someone's wrath up above. It was better to be safe than sorry. "I suppose we can only wait and see who our new trainees will be," he added after a while. Would they be easy or hard to train? Artemis sighed. What was going to happen now? And how long would they have before the wrath of the Negaverse followed them to this planet?

Hollywood Hills High -- Mid-day
  • Gym. For many girls Lita's age, it was hell, in every definition of the word. They had to take off their jewelery, put their hair up, and... sweat! The horror! But for Lita, it was the exact opposite. Gym was the one class she actually did well in, the one class where she could just be open and have a good time. However, with all of her other classes, there were quite a few difficulties. She wasn't the smartest girl, by far, and often had trouble with the assigned work, and felt quite idiotic having to ask the teacher for assistance all the time. To make matters worse, she had to endure the mutterings of her classmates all day. They were horrible, ruthless, uncaring. Lita's own personal hell. They would whisper things about her, rumors about her being a lesbian, rumors that it was her that had killed her parents, and that was why she was living alone. It was madness. But in gym, Lita could just run. Just run out of the reach of those whispers, allowing her fatigue to finally put her tormented mind to rest. But some days, she couldn't escape.

"Basketball." Was all the coach said, before leaving the girls to make their own teams. As usual, Lita was picked last, despite her athletic prowess. The game went by rather quickly, with Lita pretty much dominating. She probably would have done even better, if they had actually passed her the ball. For some reason though, these prissy, airheaded girls decided to get rather rough today, and as Lita ran down the court, ball in hand, she was knocked off her feet by someone equally as large on the other team. "Watch where you're going, dumbass." The other girl stated with a laugh, high-fiveing her teammates and walking away. Lita got to her feet, obviously angry, but she knew better than to try anything. And yet, the other girl wasn't as smart. Noticing that Lita had gotten onto her feet and was glaring at her, the other girl walked up and got right into the brunette's face. "What are you gonna do? Now don't get the wrong impression. Lita usually managed to do a very good job of keeping a level head. She had gotten in trouble more than enough times in the past to know better than to punch every girl who bothered her in the face, no matter how much she wanted to. But she was sick of it. These girls weren't going to let up. Ever. So perhaps knocking some sense into them would be just what they needed. Before she knew it, Lita's fist had connected with the other girl's chin, and she went down like a sack of potatoes. Getting back to her feet, blood trickling down her chin, the other girl launched herself at Lita, thereby beginning one of the greatest catfights Hollywood High would have on it's premises for a long time.

Kino Apartment -- Evening
  • The teenage girl stormed into her apartment, grocery bags hanging off of every inch of skin on her arms, paper clenched between her teeth. Most people, after getting suspended for beating some airheaded bitch within an inch of her life, would come right home. But she didn't have that luxury. Living by herself meant that Lita had to provide for herself, and for that reason, she had spent the last several hours since she was sent home wandering around the streets and buying whatever she needed. Slamming the note for her guardians informing them of her suspension onto the counter, she poured herself a glass of water, drinking it all down in one gulp. "It's stupid, really. She started it, but I'm the one that gets sent home. Whatever." She grumbled to herself, proceeding to place her purchases in their appropriate places, making sure to leave out the frozen dinner she had made sure to pick up. It was far too late to make one of the unnecessarily elaborate meals she tended to make, so she had settled for this. Sliding it into the oven, she launched herself over the back of the couch, landing directly on it and flipping on the television.

The next several hours went by rather quickly, involving nothing more than Lita eating her dinner and watching the only shows on that late worth watching. But for some reason, she had a feeling that she wasn't supposed to be her. That same feeling drew her to the window, which overlooked one of the busiest streets in California. But oddly, not a single person drove down the streets, heading towards their destination. Not a single crackhead or prostitute hid in the doorways, trying to avoid the eyes of the authorities. It was serene; peaceful. Normally, people would love that fact, but it bothered Lita. Usually, California was loud, boisterous, and generally hectic, but it was just so quiet. With nothing better to do, the brunette decided to go for a walk, more to try and figure out what was going on than to get some fresh air. Ten minutes later, Lita walked the streets alone, hood pulled over her face to avoid the wind, hands jammed in her pockets. Even down here, in the normally crowded streets, it was silent. Not for long, though. A slight whistling sound drew Lita's attention to the sky, and a flaming streak of light creating a divide in the starless sky. Something was wrong. Taking off down the street towards the location where the object must have crashed, her eyebrows furrowed. Perhaps coming out here had been a better idea than she knew...

wow, that sucked. i apologize. lmao.

  • "Good evening everyone, and thank you for tuning into WKLN 9 for your evening news, I'm Linda Sawyer..."

The young man peeked up, lifting the dark tinted goggles out of his eyesight, stopping his project on his desk in front of him. He looked around for a second, the sound of his hands moving around odds and ends and paper as he searched around for something, finding his remote and turning up the television a few notches. He put down his tools to jiggle the mouse beside him, three monitors awakening to life in front of him, miscellaneous windows opened on all three of them varying from what looked like an endless stream of numbers scrolling, to news articles, to his character from some MMO just standing idle awaiting his next command.

"Our top story tonight! Recent studies show that people might not be getting just enough sleep as they think they would-"

Mat watched the news casters drone on and on about the recent events, not interested in what she was saying, much more interested in flipping over to watch some cartoon or maybe hearing a surf report. He looked back down at his project on his desk, looking over the pair of goggles and the mess of wiring that hung from the sides of the green, see-though lenses, a square of rubber melted onto the back edges so he could protect his face from getting shocked.

"...-are on the scene looking for a missing toddler last seen-..."

The final test was in order! He placed them over his face, adjusting the strap behind his head as he took a lone wire, plugging it into a USB slot on the front of his PC tower. The three screens reacted, a green window opening in the center of them, each with a bar growing with orange in the center as it climbed up quickly in numbers.

    6%....22%....48%....63%....71%...89%...SUCESS!
"...-spending too much money? Newscaster correspondent-..."

A grin appeared on his face as the words "ENIL" "NO" flashed on the outside of the tinted windows, removing the USB cable line from the unit as he stood up to look around with it.

"It works!" He shouted out in his room in joy, his fourteenth attempt not a failure. An evil style laugh emitted from his shouts of joy as he moved out to the balcony of his apartment. "Now this will help me beat that kid in-"

"Breaking News here just-in from NASA tonight-"

Mat's head whizzed back in attention to the TV, freezing in the sliding glass doorway as he lifted the goggles up onto his forehead, focused completely on the report.

"..-have been able to dislodge a meteor trapped in a United States broadcasting satellite since last year. Experts have tracked the piece of the meteor as it entered back into the Earths atmosphere just minutes ago, calculating that it should burn up before making landfall tonight, dismissing any worry for damage or destruction to properties in the tri-county area. Recent pop-star Mina-"

Tearing his attention from the reporter, Mat's goggles began to release a warning buzzer sound, the three green monitors now flashing "! ALERT !" across them, the boy reaching to stick the modified goggles back over his eyes as the left eye lens had a blinking arrow toward his window. His head turned to view the area, a target shifted from the left lens to the right lens, fixed on something in the sky, the buzz now stopping.

Quickly, Mat hurried out to the balcony, leaning up against the guard rail to catch a better look. "Alright now, show me what you see!" He said to himself slowly, the target blinking in the UI of his lens program in response as it provided him a zoomed in view of the item of interest that his program had a sudden fascination with. The boys eyes widened as he watched the fiery chunk of matter raced toward the Earth, gasping a little. Some experts! That blazing piece of matter was sizable enough to make some sort of impact near by!

His eyes traced the space rock as much as they could before it disappeared from his and his programs sight. Thumping could be heard on the lower floor of his cousins apartment as he raced from his room down the stairs, calling out for his cousin. "Lin! LINNN!"" Mat stopped at the last step of the stairs, scanning the room with the alien contraption on his face as he looked for his cousin. "Hey, old lady! Stop playing with those weeds and come with me! I've got something wwaaayyy more interesting than a bunch of flowers!" He snickered at his own comment, waiting at the door as he peeked his head around for any incoming objects his way with a cheesy grin on his face.

  • Ah...there was nothing like sitting out in a greenhouse tending to the flowers after a long, stressful day. Well, it wasn't really a greenhouse, per say...but it served the same function, and was perhaps more advanced than your average greenhouse ever could HOPE to be. It was actually a modified room in the Torie apartment, complete with sunlamp lighting and a sprinkler system -- Lin's pride and joy, and own personal getaway.

Lin Torie didn't consider herself that lucky a person. Her life had been rough from the start, and had been practically destroyed at young age -- it had resultingly made her a bitter, cold, closed off person. She didn't have much in this world that she cared about; perhaps she could count the number of things on one hand; and all of them but one had to do with the things in this room. But plants...she adored them. Flowers, trees, bushes, vines, fruits and vegetables: they could not betray her. They could not hurt her, like so many others had in her lifetime. They didn't cheat, or lie, or leave, or talk back to her, or even dare to judge her. They were simply there, a hobby for her to tend to when she had little else to care for. And for that, she was appreciative.

Why didn't others see how wonderful and amazing the green world was? And how they were killing it with all of their poisonous gases and littering? It made her sick. And the very thought of it always seemed to bring out the worst of her temper...

    Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump.

    "Lin! LINNN!"

Concentration now broken, Lin's face contorted into a most unamused expression as she glanced up towards the ceiling where the thumping was sounding from. Someone was bounding down the stairs now, screaming her name in a most irritating fashion. That someone being the only person she let into her life, (though at times like these, she always questioned WHY she had done so in the first place) her cousin, Mathew. Her immature, obnoxious, annoying cousin. "What the hell..." she muttered under her breath, wondering for WHAT reason he was screaming at her this late at night... oh, if the neighbors complained again, he would never hear the end of it...

"Hey, old lady! Stop playing with those weeds and come with me! I've got something wwaaayyy more interesting than a bunch of flowers!"

Snarling, Lin slammed down her watering can (though she kept a tight hold of the roll of paper towels she had been using to clean up any spills) and stomped out of the greenhouse room, turning the corner into the foyer to spot her cousin -- looking a lot like either an alien from outer space, or one of those dorks from those sci-fi conventions that always dressed out to show off their obsessiveness. Honestly, she couldn't decide which was worse, so she just pelted him with the roll of paper towels instead; for both being a geek, and for annoying her while she was quite distracted with her gardening -- something one should never do. "I am NOT old, you idiot. And they are NOT weeds." Folding her arms with a scowl, she studied him for a moment before shrugging dismissively, waiting for him to stop wasting her time and actually explain himself so she could either laugh, or yell at him for distracting her for something stupid -- or maybe just do both and get it all over with. "Well? What's so important that you had to go running through the house like a five year old in swim-goggles to tell me?"

    It had better be good.

  • The boys goggles buzzed for a brief second as the paper towel roll nailed him in the nose, as if it was some cheap carnival attraction. He rubbed at it, giggling as the lenses user-interface came back into his field of vision.

"NASA dropped the big one now." He said as her grinned, eyes now more focused on the data appearing in his lenses as it came up. "Remember that meteor that dropped last year? Broke into three parts, and one was lodged into some satellite they had?" The boys hazel eyes shifted from his data as it disappeared from his view, focusing back on his pissed off cousin. "Well, they dislodged it just a few moments ago and dismissed it as a touchdown, but it did! Local, too!"

He reached into his pocket, jiggling his keys inside of it as he shifted the goggles out of his view with the other hand. "I promised you I'd find out about it and let you know as soon as it hit, no?" The boy's hand produced a simple latched key chain, three keys dangling from the end of it; two for his old Toyota Tunda, and one for the apartment door. He started waving them back and forth as if he was going to hypnotize her into coming, another cheesy grin on his face as he smiled excitedly at her.

"Two birds with one stone! You can do your whatever plant mumbo-jumbo you want to test with your chunk, and I get a chunk to test over at the school's lab so I don't cause another electrical fire here, just as I promised!" Mat flashed her a thumbs up, his strong willed attitude not going to stop him at whatever hour of the morning it was from getting to that rock.

"I just needed some space, Mom. Some time to myself. With no manager, no phonecalls, no fans, and nobody telling me what to do. Is that so much to ask for? Just a few hours?"

"Mina...there are crazy people out there, you should always be with someone-"

"But thats not ALONE time, mom. I'm not a baby anymore, I just want to lead a normal life! I want to be a normal girl! Is that too much to ask?"

"But you're not a normal girl, Wilhemina. You're a popstar. This is the life you chose for yourself."

"No. This is the life YOU chose for me."

Sighing deeply, Mina replayed the conversation in her mind once more, dropping her chin into her hand. It sounded so wretched now, in hindsight, the way she had shot things back at her mother -- the only person in this world who truly cared about her. She hadn't meant to be so hurtful, not at all...it wasn't in her nature. But why couldn't they see it? Why couldn't anyone understand that she wasn't happy all on her own? Sure, she had a cushy life. She was considered one of the luckiest girls on the planet. A teen sensation, an idol to all of the girls her age, with several songs at the top of the charts and several other honors to her name. She was so very lucky. But she wasn't happy.

It was a lonely life, being a popstar. It wasn't like you could trust people to be your friend for the right reasons when you were well-known, and unfortunately, Mina hadn't had many friends to start with. She'd always been so busy, even as a child...being driven from lesson to lesson; singing, dancing, acting...her father had wanted her to train as much as possible -- he'd seen her potential, but he'd gone about all the wrong ways of unlocking and harnessing it. What a lonely life she'd led. And everyone just assumed...that she was used to it. That she was so absorbed with her fame and her money, that she was okay with it. But she wasn't.

She would try to escape her 'blissful' life sometimes, like she had earlier that evening -- hiding behind shades and a hat, attempting to blend in with the rest of the world. Sometimes, it didn't always work. It hadn't exactly this evening either, but luckily she'd been rescued by a surfer up at the pier, who'd seemed to realize her plight. But it was rare that anyone was so kind and helpful to her...usually they just wanted an autograph or a picture or something of that nature, and while Minako was happy to give these items...she hated being used. Everything was about the money, the fortune, the fame to everyone else... those materalistic things weren't what kept Minako in the business. The singing, the performing, the charity events she was able to contribute to -- THOSE were the reasons she did what she did. Not for the reasons everyone assumed of any star.

She stared down at the paper sitting on the desk before her, a few random words and lyrics jotted down; her latest song idea. It was coming to her easily...almost too easily. A song based upon her own life, she realized. No one would ever see that...no one would ever notice. But she would.

If there's nothing missing in my life
Then why do these tears come at night?

Tapping her pencil absently against the surface of her desk, the blonde lifted her blue-eyed gaze towards the window, tilting her head. It was an awfully clear night, she thought to herself...rather unusual, for a city as busy as LA. But the stars were quite visible this evening, as was the full moon, shining brightly in the brilliant blue sky. It was entrancing, and Mina found herself staring at it for quite some time, until something else caught her eye. A streak of fire, shooting downward towards the city. Her eyes narrowed curiously at this, following it's path across the sky. A shooting star? No...it was obviously going to hit somewhere in the city. A meteor. Or something of the like. She hadn't heard anything about it while out on the pier, but now she was most certainly curious. She hated to worry her mother any more this evening, but... something was telling her to go. To see whatever this was that had landed out there. Besides, when did she ever get to do what SHE wanted to do? This was Mina time. Grabbing up her hat and a scarf, she accessorized herself properly before sneaking out of her room and down the stairs, carefully shutting down the house alarm before setting out into the streets.

The night was starting to become a bit more old. Serena should have been going to sleep, but it was too difficult to do for her, which was odd. She knew that she'd end up regretting her decision to not go to sleep during school...but then again, she'd most likely feel the hit to her sleep schedule when that clock woke her up.

And as usual, she'd go through the motions of ignoring it, hitting the snooze button, not hearing when her mother woke her up, and screaming day in and day out.

If she were more studious, she probably would be a bit more sleepy. Studying took up brain-power...and brain power meant energy. She had better things to do, like read manga or enjoy the company of friends, or even play around on facebook. It wasn't like her grades were so dire to the point where she couldn't have time to herself.

Serena lifted her arm up, a single long finger pushing the curtain next to her bed to take a peek outside. For the most part, other than the soft rush of cars down the relatively quiet street and the songs of crickets giving the night some melody, all seemed to be still.

Sighing, Serena looked up at the sky. A shooting star made it's streak across the navy blue backdrop, and Serena clapped her hands in glee. She caught a shooting star across the sky! Folding them together, she would make a wish on it.Who wanted to know? It wasn't exactly anyone's business. Besides, Serena did things like that.

That shooting star went from a bright light skipping across the sky to an even brighter light as it struck the surface. Sitting up in her bed, Serena's mouth hung wide open. Her first question was "What was that?" The answer, however, awaited her outside. And Serena would go and find that answer easily.

Getting up from her bed, she quickly slipped some clothes on. Grabbing her keys, she stealthily tip-toed down the stairs and quietly opened up the door, and walked out of the house, checking to make sure that the door didn't slam behind her. She would go on a search to see what was going on, and she would at least have something to brag to her friends about when she got back to classes tomorrow...that is if the math and science majors didn't clue everyone else in before she did. They would die to see what she was about to see. Reaching down in her purse, she checked to see if she had her cell phone with her. She would be taking some pictures of the scene! 'Facebook, here I come!' Serena giggled to herself. From then on, she took a run to the site where the object crashed. At least someone would have to be there.

Such was the curiosity of Usagi "Serena" Tsukino.

  • Later Amy would wonder what exactly drew her out of her studying daze. She had not yet finished the chem 2 lab that was due on Friday. She'd vowed to stop only for a single break before she finished it, and she'd already had her glass of iced tea and a bowl of cereal, her self-given treat of a snack. She was strict in her study habits, most often, and did not often slack even a little. But she stood up from the couch, setting aside her HP laptop and the various notebooks that were integral to her lab writing process, and simply wandered off. In the background played a band she couldn't even remember the name of. A fellow chem student had made her a mix, and she hadn't studied the slip of paper with the titles on it too closely yet. The song was peppy, though, and light hearted--a feeling she needed, as her level of anxiety rose sharply. Something was not right.

It was not as if Amy was not used to being home alone. Her mother had turned her into a latch key kid years ago, and she stayed nights alone in their penthouse apartment with no problem. The building had a doorman and anyone who wanted to come up had to be buzzed in. This area of the city had a particularly low crime level, being as rich as it was, and she had never had a fear that she might not be safe here. Suddenly, though, she felt as if she had surely forgotten to take her anti-anxiety meds today--which she knew she had not forgotten--as her heart rate increased and her breathing grew more shallow.

    Something was wrong.

She stepped out onto the balcony and looked to the sky. Of all the pastimes she could enjoy, she stayed indoors too much to really enjoy stargazing. She saw names and lines of constellations when she looked skyward, and could not enjoy the image for the sake of its beauty; another of those faults of being in so many gifted programs as a child. She did not lament it, however. No, she enjoyed what grace had given her, and that was enough.

With water blue eyes turned skyward, she noted a particularly clear sky and smiled to herself. It was cooler out here than she'd expected, and she had an absent thought to go back inside and at least grab a sweater. That thought was cast aside, though, when the shooting star cut violently across the sky. She gasped, despite herself, and then wondered at her folly. She was not an excitable girl, nor was she particularly attached to inanimate objects, such as stars. She furrowed her brow as she considered her strange thoughts, then shook her head. She wanted to believe she was just stressed over schoolwork, but that didn't feel right.

And Amy Anderson was not a girl who did a lot of listening to her feelings. But her feelings were telling her that she needed to go... see... understand. But what? She didn't understand the feeling, but she was back inside with a sweater in one hand and her keys in the other before she knew what she'd decided to do. Apparently she was going to go see what happened. She took a deep breath and rushed down the stairs, relying on her gut for once in her life. She suspected it was going to lead her wrong.

  • She remembered very little -- a fact that annoyed Luna greatly. Certainly, she recalled who she was: Sailor Luna, the guardian of all Sailor Soldiers. And Artemis, she recalled him too, of course. These new furry forms were...different, but she felt there was little time to dwell on this particular unimportant detail when they had no idea where they were, or why they were there. She thought back, as far as she could, trying to recall anything at all that might aide in filling in the missing pieces. But all she could recall was the flash of light...

Then she turned back to the meteor, studying it with her dark eyes. There was something important about this rock, wasn't there...? And then, an image flashed before her eyes. The Rainbow Cavern, they were running through it, and a dark shadow loomed before them...behind them...they were trapped, ambushed. Two soldiers protecting them...falling to the shadows... and then their voices ringing out as they called their power to them, and a blinding light... and then nothing. But the sight of the meteor itself, at least, had filled in several clues. Power practically radiated from the rock before her...the power of the planetary soldiers. And they would surely be coming now to recieve it. Sighing heavily, she glanced back to Artemis. Their mission was clear to her, now. They were to train a new era of Sailor Soldier, to replace that which had been nearly all but wiped out (she alone had survived, she thought miserably) by the shadows before. The shadows that were surely lurking in this world, awaiting the reawakening of the Sailor Team.

"Well, if they're coming they can bring a wagon too,"

Her companion's familiar voice brought her back from her scattered thoughts. Turning her attention to him, she allowed a slight smile at his words, shaking her head. "It won't take too long to grow accustom to, I'm sure Artemis." Sitting back on her haunches, she paused to consider. "I suppose when the Sailors put us into that sleep in the Cavern, they did not have enough powers to save our human forms as well." She was grateful for what they had done, for what they had saved before perishing. She could not complain. She would not. Not when those girls had laid down their lives for her.

"I suppose we can only wait and see who our new trainees will be,"

Luna nodded, glancing around the dark, dusty alley. Whoever found themselves drawn to this place, called forth by their respective powers reaching out to them, would be their new trainees. The next generation of Sailor Soldiers. The heroines of the planet. She was anxious to meet them, to teach them. Her ear twitched as a sound then reached it: footsteps, nearing the alley. "You might not have to wait much longer, Artemis." she murmured, nodding towards the alley entrance. "Come on, we'll hide and watch first, just to be safe." With this said, she rose to her feet and darted behind a nearby crate, peering out to watch and wait.
