This quote, which I have stumbled upon, leads me to think who said it.

"When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they call me a communist"

Now, finding this page on wikipedia: http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Communism
It was Dom Helder Camara, Brazilian archbishop who said it.

It displays it as not a pro-communist quote, not a anti-communist quote, but a miscellaneous one.

What do you think? Is it for, against, or middle?
The political form of a society wherein the proletariat is victorious in overthrowing the bourgeoisie will be a democratic republic

I think it's definitely pro-working class, but middle-of-the-road regarding communism.

Though not necassarily Communist, certainly Anti-Capitalist.
"Bourgeois class domination is undoubtedly a historical necessity, but, so too, the rising of the working class against it. Capital is a historical necessity, but, so too, its grave digger, the socialist proletariat."

Moderate position, but definitely leaning towards the working class. I think he meant in the use of the word at that time, since back then if you were a communist you might as well have been a satanist, and he probably did not want to get kicked out of the church if he appeared pro-communist. Just my thought....
"Let the ruling classes tremble at a Communist revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. Working men of all countries, unite!"
-Karl Marx
''If there is hope, it lies in the Proles.''
-1984
"Freedom only for the members of the government, only for the members of the Party - though they are quite numerous - is no freedom at all."
-Rosa Luxemberg

It's a statement on how any concern for the poor was interpreted as Communism (and therefore evil). Dom Cāmara was pointing out how this line of thought is absurd and hypocritical.

He was considered one of those crackpot "libertarian theologists"...not quite sure what you guys feel about them.

It's sort of a system of belief that Jesus was a Communist and that all true Christians should be socialists.

If you're really interested, Wikipedia would probably explain it better... ;)

No, I was just wondering a bit, because I've heard it thrown around before.
