Most folks that live within are aware that the kingdom of “The Old World" has been lost to the other realms
for many thousands of years. To enter or leave the realm has only been done by a very small group over
centuries, all at different times and probably accidentally on most occasions. The entire land mass is surrounded
on three sides by a great ocean known to many as “Infinity’s Well”; any sailor knows the stories of those who
have tried to sail to the edges of the world. None who have tried have ever returned.
No one knows ( at least their not saying ) what is beyond The Old World but there are plenty who know a cousin or
a brother-in-law or a friend of a friend who knows a friend that knows someone that has returned from the other
side. Nothing more than rumor and legend.
The one side of T.O.W. that is not locked by the sea is blocked by an ancient mystical energy barrier that was
only discovered within the last 400 years. The reason for this has always been assumed to be the lack of settlements
that far west. The ‘Dark’ Forest of Ardenness is a dangerous place and this magical veil takes the form of an
impassable thickness among the twisted trees deep within. Stories of these trees taking other unworldly forms
and possessing the souls of the unwary have been told among the people for generations. To the south of this
dark forest is an expanse of desert, so vast most have never attempted to cross it, no one has been able to carry
enough water to make the journey.
