Preface --Lore

The Magi of olde, shortly after the dawn of time when the High Elves whom were imbued with magical powers. Created a Neutral City Hub atop the great hollowed oak tree, resting out of sight up so far it seems to hide in the sky itsself. The city of the great Hollowed-Oak has evolved over time and if one could see it outside of the walls. It would appear as a beautiful castle-city with gaurds to provide physical protection. This place is enchanted with very powerful magicks, everyone here speaks draconic and nobody ever fights here.

Several shops line the streets, in the center is a tavern where the weary traveller can rest, take advantage of the bank, as well as the rest of the ammenities.

HollowedOak City is ruled by Ghuan'niss Noqu'ghym, a dark elf Sorceress whom rules fair and justly.

The current coin system consists of: Solace= 1 cp, Regent= 1 sp, Bizant= 1 gp, Crown= 1 pp.

And so it begins...

*Your journies thus far have been easy and peaceful up until now. Through the plains as far as the eye can see. There is nothing but soft grass and in the center you see an old great Oak Tree that is so tall that you can't see the top of it. Every thing seems bland and peaceful.

Compelled by sleep to close your eyes you lay down at its base near a large root that serves as a pillow. As sleep takes you, you dream a dreamless sleep and yet you feel rested when your eyes open up. You find yourself waking up in the tavern at the center of the city. The room is lavish and the bedding and drapes are of a rich purple which only royal born kings can afford. Obviously the best room with beautiful paintings of waterfalls and few various men and women you do not recognize.

There is a warm bath already drawn to perfection with a selection of ale and grog to your liking sitting chilled in a large metal pan shaped more like a bowl. And there are wines that sit on a rack in their bottles at room temperature. You also notice at the table in the dining section of the very comfortable accomodations. A breakfast fit for only the wealthy awaits your attention.

Suddenly a knock at the door alerts you that this is not a dream. Along with a sullen female voice fills the room from behind it. Right away you cannot seem to place the accent. But your really not concerned with where she is from. Its where you are and why.*

"Master Valkur, are you awake yet? --Is the food, drink, and bath to your liking? Lady Noqu'ghym wants to know if your going to sleep through the day. What shall I tell her Master Valkur?"

*A little disoriented from the change in sleeping arrangements, Jakob Valkur awakens. Groggily, he considers how his identity was discerned so quickly. collecting his thoughts, he answers the voice at the door.*

"I am awake, my good lady. Please extend my gratitude towards the Lady of this place. I shall make haste through ablulation and meal to place myself at her disposal."

And then determine where my other talents are required.

*Listening in at the door and relaxing upon hearing Master Valkur reply.*

"The Lady will be pleased to hear it. She'll send for you after a short time, as I'm sure you'll have some questions. Lady Noqu'ghym will answer them for you as soon as your ready.

Feel free to make yourself at home here. Know that it is a pleasure to have you here. If you should happen to need any further assistance, you can find me downstairs."

*With that the woman turns and you hear footsteps fade as she walks away.*

*As the woman recedes down the hallway, Jakob moves to bathe and groom himself. After he is satisfied with his overall cleanliness (enough to avoid offensiveness, but not so much as to belie his position as "Jakob Valkur, traveling carpenter"), he dons his carpenter's outfit, making sure he leaves his "for show" dagger behind, while carrying the hidden ones in their standard locations (one at each wrist, one deep in a sheath worked into the leather of his right boot, one in a sheath hanging from the back of his neck and one in a flat sheath in the small of his back.).*

*After eating heartily, he quickly moves through his other possessions. Knowing that many were concealed in the handcart when he was traveling, he makes sure they haven't been tampered with. He also checks both his public and hidden purses, counting the coins to make certain no "happy fingers" have sought unearned wealth from him. As he performs these tasks, he keeps his ears open for untoward sounds.*

*While going over your inventory the only thing out of the ordinary you notice is that your blades have been sharpened. And new whetstones and oils have been added. Neither of your purses have been tampered with. And the only sound you hear is the approaching footsteps of the kind young woman returning to check in on 'Master Valkur'. When she reaches the door she raps on it and says just loud enough for you to hear her voice.*

"Master Valkur, are you ready to meet with our Lady Noqu'ghym?"

"I am ready."

*Jakob opens the door to see a beautiful half-elven young woman whom escorts him down a bright and wide corridor. With whittish-gray walls and dark doorways that appear easy on the eyes. The floor is a varnished cherry-wood, the stairs at the end of the hall are on the left hand side. Decending the elaborate staircase that spirals down you notice. That the railing and slats look to be carved into an Elven and Dwarven design. Reaching the floor and looking around, you can see that this tavern is well to-do. The young woman leads you to a dimly lit table in the far corner where you can take everything in.

In the center of the room is a stone hearth on a stage set for entertainment. The exit is to the right of your table on the far end. To the left is a bar where you can hear things cooking. The tavern is sparsely filled this morning. The woman whom escorted you here looks at you with a smile and says.*

"The lady Ghuan'niss Noqu'ghym will be along shortly. My name, Master Valkur is Arial. And I am here for your needs. Would you like a drink?"

*Jakob offers the beauteous maiden a disarming smile. He maintains eye contact with Arial as he sits, smile never faltering.*

"Why, yes. I would take a glass of Hyrkanian brandy. If you would like, have some with me."

*With a look of shock and embarrassment Arial shows that she is quite taken with Jakob but breaks eye contact and looks down shyly and says:*

"m'Lord, I, I cannot, ...for now is not the time for ...such.. pleasentries..."

*She trails off as she looks around and notices the Dark Elf ruler approaching.*

"Excuse me my Lady, Master Valkur is ready for your audience."

*With that she skurries off, and you have a full clear view of a beautiful magistrix with jet black skin with silver-blue eyes and long white hair. You can see this short and eloquent woman finish walking over to your table with an old. Very old bottle of Hyrkanian brandy with a small blue with gold trimmed ribbon tied around it in a bow. She sits down and speaks with a calm and commanding voice about her.*

"Master Valkur, I am Ghuan'niss Noqu'ghym the Magistrix ruler here in this city. We are in the "Core-Tavern" a very fine establishment. I believe this bottle of 180 Old-Year Kyranian Brandy should be to your liking. And I'm sure you most likely have a few questions. They will be answered shortly, so let us have a drink."

*She smiles seductively and waves her hand over the table with a bluish glow that seems to start from the elbow and raidiate just past her fingernails. Suddenly a couple of drinking glasses appear out of nowhere. Then she uncorks the bottle and takes a sniff before pouring the two of you a drink.*

"I will let you have the honor of proposing a toast, after the first shot, I will hear your questions."

*Jakob accepts one of the drinking glasses with a deferential thank you. He pours Noqu'ghym a drink first, stopping when she indicates. He then pours a slightly lesser amount forhimself, remembering the noble training he received before the Landsraat took him away: "The higher the station, the higher the top off." He then holds up his glass in a toast.*

"To you and your city. May both prosper forever."

*After she accepts the toast,Jakob then slowly drinks the brandy. He allows the spices worked into the liquor to flow across his tongue; he waits until the slight cinnamon aftertaste hits before lowering the glass.*

"Very excellent. From the Adiz Distrtict, I believe."

*He then straightens his posture and places his hands on the table. He gets a look on his face that, to the casual observer, would be construed as enthusiastic politeness.*

"And how may a a simple carpenter be of service?"

*Ghuan'niss looks at Jakob with the look of a loving spouse whom knows that their significant other is going to lose their life within a short span of time. And lets him top her glass off just before top. About the same distance as someone sticking the tip of their finger while resting the knuckle on the edge into the glass. She nods her head at his toast and klinks the rim of her glass against his. Then begins to drink it moderately slow savoring each cold-warm pass over the tongue and down the throat.*

*Looking at Jakob when finished she speaks in a soft and confident manner with a warmth to her voice.*
"My Dear, a simple carpenter, a knowledge of exellent spirits is not your best suit. That particular bottle pre-dates the Adiz District by about 100 years. But roughly the same area, yes. You are a very special man, Jakob. And I saw well into your soul a very long time ago and brought you to the top of my tree just as you had lay down for your nap. We are so far up into the sky that you can actually see the branches and if perchance you know magic, the leaves as well. You may service me with your questions so that I may return the favor of providing you with what answers you may seek."

*She trails off for a few moments that seems to take forever and then lowers her voice.*

"Ah I see, in lands of Togkrah to the South and ruled by the Orc Regeant Klaang. I sense that they may soon be looking to find a man of your many talents. It would seem that they are very persistant. And someone, a lesser magi of their own, has botched an assignment. They know of your 'friends' and have placed you as a scapegoat. One Orc whom is much like yourself has information about you. Now the Regeant believes you have intelligence on their empire."

"Maybe you will not get the answers you seek after all. They have an agent with a party scouring the lands for you now. ..."

*Jakob leans in close. He knows that the Landsraat has many enemies throughout the known lands, including places that very few of this generation have heard of. Heeding the adage Knowledge is Power, he begins to formulate plans. Before they get too far though, he must know whom he is contending with.*

"This agent, can you decribe him or her as well as the group they travel with? And what does this orc that knows my name look like? Have you their names?"

*Ghuan'niss eyes begin to glow a feignt blue hue as she slowly moves her hands around to form an invisible rune. And a circular shape begins to form with the image of five people travelling through the plains headed in the direction of the Highlands in the North. Suddenly they change their heading and move towards the Scortching Wastes to the West. It appears that two of them a man and a woman whom both appear to be rangers. One is using an Orb of some sort with magical properties. The woman seems to be using the elements to track something or someone. The leader of the party calls them by name:*

"Adam, Amy, report!"

*The woman speaks up out of turn interrupting in an irritated voice:*

"Lokrah!, how many times do we have to remind you that we are bounty hunters and not soldiers in the service of your Emperor? We do not respond to barked orders, but as far as our report is concerned. My husband and I believe that he went there!"

*She points to the Wastelands.*

*Adam speaks up.*

"Into the Scortching Wastes, thats where you'll find him. We will arrive before he does on this heading and as agreed the rest of us will trap our prey and you can have your precious kill."

*Lokrah responds.*

"Mr and Mrs Belkin, be sure you do not forget that."

*The other two appear to be warriors and remain silent. These two are also Orc's.*

*Ghuan'niss eyes begin to return to normal as the small circular magic portal fades to nothing. She looks lovingly to Jakob and lets out a little sigh. And pours the two another drink before she speaks. She picks up her glass and says.*

"Now you have some leads atleast so you can find your answers if you so choose. Personally the five of them are no match for you. I know that you can handle yourself and handle yourself well at that. Now drink up and ponder your desicion and if you wish to persue them. I will send you to the proper location."

*Jakob carefully notes the dissension between the bounty hunters and the leader. The orc warriors would not interfere unless they sensed weakness in the leader; even then, they would wait until the leader is in battle or showing weakness before opting for a leadership change.*

My best bet is to eliminate the leader, then the bounty hunters if necessary. With the leader gone, there might be a chance for me to dissuade the bounty hunters from continuing their mission. Assuming that "Lokrah" is their employer. If not, then the man first; even with the flaws, the orb would come back to haunt me otherwise. The woman next; vendettas can be messy. if the orcs haven't chosen to die for the cause, I can try to recruit them.

*Once he clears his glass, Jakob then looks to Ghuan'niss. Hoping that no one else saw or heard what was going on, he answers calmly.*

"Now, I would need to gather my personal equipment for this. However, if I could look at things about one hundred yards away, I can get a feel for the enormity of things."

*The two of you seem to go unnoticed by anyone, even as the time ticks by and more customers fill the commons room of the tavern. Ghuan'niss looks back to Jakob with a knowing look and begins to pour atleast one more drink for him and her.*

"Have one more drink with me before you go?"

*Once again her eyes and hand begins to glow as she draws her invisible rune into the air and a small portal opens up. The Scortching Wastes come into view and looks to have been a very populated area that once thrived with life. Until something of an apocolyptic nature left things in a disheartening disarray. Lokrah and his party are seen setting up in a small town with lots of places to hide. The bounty hunters take to a barren saloon as their base of operations. You see a cart across the way with manuer piled into it and rotting in the sun.*

"Looks like you may want to look for another to help keep the upper hand. If you wish, there is always the option of staying here. Where nothing EVER happens and you can live forever with us."
