A cloud of dust and the thundering beat of over half a dozen horses hammered the Old Merchants Road. In the lead as scout, rode a dark eyed Suderman, born and raised on the marshy coasts. His name was Kane and despite being short and wirey, he carried a hard, worldwise demeanor and was known as being one of the best trackers around.

About 200 yards behind were three sturdy destriers bearing Platemail armored veterans. Sgt. Blackthorne led the trio and always prided himself with knowing not only what was going on around him, but also having the kind of wit and personality that soldiers follow without question.

Maxwell was a big bear of a man, arms and trunk strong like an ursine too. He was soft hearted, but often motherhenish in his care of those who needed in his mind to be protected.

Daniel Whitefeather, wearing Elven mail under green yoemans clothes, was a woodman, and an archer. His strong arms and deadly aim made him a good person to have around. His skill with twin axes rivalled his archery. He tended to be quite but had a quick joke when times were rough.

Lastly there rode Galen, The joyful, a paladin protector from North of Gadansk.
He had gathered these worthies from his travels in the Borderlands and found them to be more than family, in a hard, dangerous world.

The morning sun warmed the chill Spring air askane slowed his mount to a stop and raised the signal that they had reached their destination..Stormhaven!

The worthy veterans gathered to Kane, all ears as he spoke. "The Wydenwood turns off from The Merchant Road just ahead. Hereafter the chill winds from the roots of Skyreach (A Low mountain chain) will be against us. Cloaks would be advised, and if you haven't one, I have some pepperstick that will help. The roads hereabouts are patrolled by the Baron's loyal troops, but they are a suspicious lot, often sending travellers away who cannot give a good reason for trespassing."

Galen sat tall in his saddle as he listened. His handsome face, youthful and cleanshaven seemed to glow with personality. "We are fortunate to have a letter from the Castellan and the Lord of Gadansk to see us through, but be on alert for now. My parents both died in the Faldenwar while defending our city from This Baron's Uncle. Hopefully we can locate my brother Kelvin without too much trouble. It has been 6 years since he suddenly left the Templars and took service here."

Blackthorne leaned forward and looked serious. "I hope for your heart's peace, he is well and that your business with him will be handled swiftly. This lands has a feel to it akin to walking on wargraves..."

The others nodded in agreement. Galen's shoulders slumped as his thoughts turned to his twin brother...long gone from him yet perhaps so nearby.

Within an hours ride the group met a patrol of a dozen Lt. cavalry. The Leutinant in charge (A bearded ma named Gabbart)eyed the group with bitter eyes and suspicion upon seeing Kane, a swarthy Suderman working as scout for the hugely built Knight . His eyes softened only a bit when he interviewed Galen and got a look at his 'papers' and heard the request to journey to the Baron's Castle in search of his long lost brother. Not recognizing the winged lion standard on Galen's shield, he decided to escort the group, for safeties sake to their destination. Galen gladly followed him into the outlying countryside, the large town and eventually into the Red granitestone castle.

"Wait here in the captains office, sir, and Darien will take care of your animals and store your gear for you. I will tell our Captain you are here.

Galen breathed a sigh of relief after the man had left. Daniel had placed his hood down over his bearded face and Kane did likewise with his own Black yoemans hood. Both men's alert eyes were busy taking in their surroundings in case of any trouble. The larger man just smiled happily and cracked his neck to stretch until Blackthorne gave him a sharp look.
