I went to see Cloverfield earlier today. I'll go ahead and say it: Save your money and, if you still have any desire to see it at that point, rent it.

Don't get me wrong: The premise is good. A party is being thrown for someone about to transfer to Japan as part of a (I guess) promotion. the party is being recorded, as a remembrance for the person. During the party, there's a tremor and the building momentarily loses power. I should mention that the movie is coming from the video camera's point of view.

Anyway, what transpires from there is that there's a giant creature attacking Manhattan. And, no it isn't Godzilla; though the movie is inspired by a Japanese toy monster (but then, so was the rust monster, IIRC). The military is called in to fight this maladjusted monstrosity (rather speedily, I might add). And members of the party are caught in the middle.

Besides the response time of the military, I do have some other hangups on this movie. These, plus some of the better points I have for this movie, I must refrain, due to spoilerage.

The worthy GM never purposely kills players' PCs, He presents opportunities for the rash and unthinking players to do that all on their own."
