A red mist hung heavy in the air. The sound of battle was stilled, and only the moans and whimpers of the dying could be heard. Brother Khostragar surveyed the ruined landscape. Their first battle for Poseidon IV had been both a success and a failure. Blood had been spilled, gallons of it in the name of Khorne, but they had been unable to secure the Lake area. The cowardly Tau had fortified their positions for now... A screeching sound of metal against metal caught Brother Khostragars attention. The Defiler, brought down by the Taus heavy guns, stirred. Brother Khostragar watched in silent reverence as dark coils of energy knitted the Daemon engine back together. A slave crew was already on their way to chain and secure the beast, and Khostragar hoped they'd do a better job than last time. The Infernal machine had broken free and three Brothers had paid with their life for the laxity of the slaves. Khostragar swept the thought from his mind. The former slave crew had been disciplined. These fools would undoubtedly double check the shackles. Five brothers had been killed by the Tau, seven more by the Betrayer himself. Eight more had suffered grievous wounds, but would be ready to fight in no time, and reinforcements was already on their way from The Thirsting blade, their cruiser, high in orbit. The Tau was an honorless foe. Utterly oblivious to the majesty and perfection of close combat, they preferred to use their long range guns to do their dirty work. Only the weak and bizarre beaked creatures that fought alongside them tried to put up a fight, but they were cut down like children. The World Eaters would seek out other opponents. Someone more worthy of the gifts of Khorne. |

Shas'El Rey Duav'r Kass had fought the gue'la on many a occation earlier, still he had been somewhat taken back by the madness and ferocity of this new enemy. He had heard rumors that the mont’au’gue’la were crafty and scheming enemies, but when it came to these red-armored brutes that was not the case, in fact he had seen 'Jikita perform more cunning and tactical advances than that on several occasions. He had decided to use the mont'ka, and it had worked, as they flowed away from the furious onslaught of their enemy. The mont’au’gue’la attack had been like his old commander once had described "like punching water, messy, but ultimately pointless". Still one of the warfish lay back on the field of battle, nothing more that a smoking wreck. But worse the 'Vre and his squad of shas had been cut down to the last man even as they tried to extract themselves from the downed skimmer. Well that was of course the kind of behavior one could expect from the gue'la, but essentially is was his fault, and he would do his best not to make it happen again. He looked over at the earth-caste engineers working to restore full capacity to the Hammerheads railgun, the damage had seemed worse than it was, the capacitors were back on-line, and the grav-tank would soon be fully operational again. One of the Jikita-packs had been decimated to the last carnivore, but that was however expected, the carnivores had once again done their share for the Greater Good. The Manta missile-destroyer had already dispatched a replacement pack for him along with more shas and a new Warfish. He was ready if they should make another attempt! |
