Her er starten på fluffet om mine chaos marines. Feel free to comment! INDEX ASTARTES: ABYSS RIDERS ORIGINS: Founded on Khargoth IV early in M.37, the Abyss Riders were created to guard an important space lane in the northern parts of the galaxy. Using gene-seed from the Space Wolves chapter, a chapter of fleet based close combat specialist was created. The space wolves donated several of their best warriors to help train their upstart cousins, most notable; their first chapter master Asgeir Bear-Eater, who ruled the chapter for more than 300 years. A total of 50 space wolves were donated to the Abyss Riders, a proof of the Wolves eagerness to create secondary foundings of themselves. The chosen 50 saw their assignment as a great honor, and they took several aspects of their progenitor chapter with them to their new home, most notably their independence. As a new chapter, the Abyss Riders were gifted with many gifts from both the Space Wolves and also the Adeptus Mechanicus. No less than 4 battle barges, 5 strike cruisers and several smaller vessels were given to them, as well as a grand chapter fortress on Khargoth IV. Over the years the Abyss Riders proved themselves a smart investment from the Imperiums view. Untold space vessels were protected from pirate attacks by the chapter. Only 80 years after its creation, the chapter had all but obliterated the pirates in their area. The time for new hunting grounds had arrived. Along with their progenitor chapter, and several other chapters, they undertook glorious conquests in the name of the Emperor, and they received much praise from their fellow chapters. During their enterprises in the galaxy, they soon came into contact with the Inquisition, and undertook many missions with them along. Over the millennia the Abyss Riders soon became as good friends with the Ordo Malleus as they were with the Space Wolves, and enjoyed kinship with several Inquisitors. In the late M.38 they started to serve alongside an especially fierce Inquisitor named Harkan Ardor. He became a constant companion with the chapter, and enlisted their help in persecuting heretics and daemons all over the northern stars. Ardor was somewhat of a radical rogue in the Malleus organization, and meant that the weapons of the enemy could be used against him, leading to some controversy among the Abyss Riders. After much debate, the chapter masters decided to follow the Inquisitors teachings. Before long the Abyss Riders had recovered a sizable collection of artifacts captured and raided from heretics and xenos alike. ![]() THE FALL: After 3 centuries in league with Inquisitor Ardor, the Abyss Riders acted like no other imperial astartes. Using civilians as cannon fodder and other horrible tactics unheard of in other than the dreaded traitor legions. Rumors of human sacrifice and cooperation with daemonic entities soon circulated, and the Space Wolves soon drooped all contact with the Abyss Riders, centuries of friendship gone. The Ordo Malleus was swift to take action upon request from no other than the Space Wolves themselves, and a cleansing mission was soon in the making. Several companies of Wolves, more than 200 Grey Knights and hundreds of Inquisitorial storm troopers joined in a massive attack on their fortress. The sight that greeted them when entering the fortress’ main hall was something out of a nightmare; human sacrifice, blood spilled all over the hall, banners hailing the dark prince and orgies with Daemonettes and marines joined as one. Drunk with excess the Abyss Riders had no idea what hit them, and thus no chances what so ever against the invaders. Within minutes all were annihilated! The chapter fortress was raised to ruble, and the mighty fleet scuttled into the sun. The inhabitants of Khargoth IV were either sent to the penal legions or sent to work slave labor for the rest of their miserable lives, their penalties for letting such obscenities go on unchecked on their world. The commanders of the force soon noticed that the entire chapter was not present at the feast. 1 battle barge (the Dark Avenger) and a strike cruiser (the Missing Fang) were missing, and with them 2 full companies of heretics. And soon a massive hunt led by the Space Wolves, for the survivors were undertaken. The 2 remaining ships returned to Khargoth IV to find it in ruins, and several picket ships waiting for them, opening fire on them without warning. Defending themselves, the Abyss Riders soon destroyed the inadequate ships left behind, and descended upon the planet itself to search the ruble for things to recover. They left empty-handed. The Abyss Riders left the sector in search of new territory to call home. They headed east. Some time later they came upon an abandon space station, which turned out to be with operational power supply and weapon banks. Restoring it to be fully operational the Abyss Riders soon converted it for their use, adding several guns batteries, large docking bays for their ships and heavily shielded chambers for their heretical artifacts. They named the station: The Black Maw. HOME WORLD: Khargoth IV was once a backwater world, with 6-7 billion inhabitants, not making much of themselves. Their main resource was massive iron deposits that were traded off world for food and luxuries. The founding of Abyss Riders was cause for much joy among the population, for they knew that the Emperors finest would now protect them from pirates. With the removal of the pirates in the area, Khargoth IV rose in prominence as the inhabitants no longer lost ships with ore, nor did they have to pay to protect their hauls anymore. Today the planet is nothing but barren wasteland. Even the massive ore deposits have not convinced anyone to settle there. For who in their right mind would live on a planet that raised a heretic astartes chapter? COMBAT DOCTRINE: Before the Fall, the Abyss Riders were strict followers of the Codex Astartes, now things are a bit different. Since large amounts of the survivors were of the reserve companies, the Abyss Riders have access to large amounts of heavy weapons, and these warriors have a tendency to stick together in squads. Since the chapter have lost most of its fleet it have now adopted a mechanized approach in ground warfare, utilizing several captured imperial vehicles, often fielding transports full of close combat specialists. In combat, they fill their enemies with heavy weapons fire; under this cover-fire their vehicles rush upon the enemies before crushing them with their superior speed and close combat ability. Off late the Abyss Riders have been in contact with Emperors Children, thus they are now rumored to be seen fighting with Emperors Children legionnaires in their formations. Accompanying them is no other than infamous Lucius the Eternal. ORGANIZATION: The Abyss Riders’ organization is similar to the way it was before the Fall. At the top you have the surviving captains, Altod Marus and Berot Knaaz. Advising them you have the two remaining librarians Argoth Varda and Menga Lurde. Lord Lucius functions as an advisor to the rulers of the chapter, and he alone commands the Emperors Children legionnaires. Below them there is the varying sergeant and their squads of noise marines. There is also a large amount of havocs and a small contingent of bikers. The havocs have no sergeants, nor do they desire them. The Abyss Riders contains large amounts of sergeants, and some of them have managed to capture some tactical dreadnaught armor for themselves, and these “men” are always welcome on the battlefield. The one remaining tech-marine have given himself completely over to the machines and are now a member of the infamous Obliterator cult. Recently the drivers of the vehicles of the Abyss Rides have commandeered an imperial Baneblade from a transport ship they independently hijacked. Increasing the threat of the Abyss Riders massively! BELIEFS: The Abyss Riders were once followers of the Emperor, but they have now rid themselves of his “protection”. Today they have no true deity they follow, but a majority of them have dedicated themselves to Slaanesh, earning the gifts that come with this. The rest are followers of chaos undivided and worship no special aspect. GENE-SEED: The gene-seed used to create the Abyss Riders comes from the Space Wolves and are remarkably free of mutation. There is not even trace of the Canis Helix, which the chapter was known to carry before the fall. CHAPTER MOTTO: None. NOTABLE NAMES: -Inquisitor Harkan Ardor -Sorcerer Argoth Varda -Sorcerer Menga Lurde -Lord Berot Knaaz -Lord Altod Marus |
