Anime: Gantz Genre: Action, Science Fiction, Thriller Creator: Ichiro Itano Company: Gonzo Plot: 25/25 Storyline? Yeah, it's really good, the plot follows 2 high school students who meet up after years without seeing one another. Kei Kurono is the protagonist here and he hopes to god that ex-best friend Masaru Kato doesn't remember who he is when trying to save a homeless man who falls onto the train tracks, sadly, his wish is ruined with Kato, yep remembers him. That issue causes them there deaths by train wreckage following shocked faces and taken pictures. Hobo was saved sure, but they weren't. After the tragic death of Kato and Kurono they end up in a room. The room contains a big black ball that gives you the lovely message: "Your lives are over, you bastards. What you do with your new lives is entirely up to me. So there you have it." What this means is that each person in this room is forced to play this black balls (Gantz) games to stay alive. The way the story plays out is fantastic featuring a pretty good alternate non-manga anime. Why the plot is really genius is how deep they get into each character. By the end of episode 26 you feel as if you know each character. You even get to know the minor characters which is... really in depth. Season 1's focus on characters and Season 2's focus on action is really a fantastic balance may I add. Plot? Fantastic. Artwork: 15/15 Going for a more realistic anime look, similar to such anime as Zoids it's really fantastic. Instead of huge eyes they look realistic... well as realistic as an anime can be. The 3D effects added are equally astounding and seem to fit right with the environments. The darkness, character models, and everything makes this a work of art. Originality: 24/25 While I sometimes think of this as "stuck in a virtual reality" esque, the story still proves to be original. How? You've never seen an anime go this deep into it's characters and you never will. Also, the monsters are plenty original. Going everywhere from a giant onion loving monster to Kei Kurono himself, the monsters on this show will not be seen anywhere else. You also won't be seeing, a meaner black ball, better effects, or a darker conclusion than that of Gantz. Length & Music: 8/10 26 episodes is a lot I know, however compare that to the Manga which is stretching onto its 240th chapter. So... I sort of question the length, especially with the ending leaving so much unanswered (spoiler zomg). I still enjoyed it and thank god for the second season aye? The music is great. The beginning song was stuck in my head for ages. The techno, rap, feel of the music is a perfect fit for the show. First Impression and Conclusion: 10/10 When I first saw it, I loved it. The amount of violence, and the depth of the characters astounded me. Kurono felt like a real person, with real problems and all, you don't find that in other anime. I have a feeling your first impression should be similar. Overall Feel: 15/15 Loved every bit of it. I hope you do too. Some may not love the genre, but trust me, just check it out. The amount of violence, and problems the characters face, it's just A+++++ material. TOTAL:97/100 |
