thought I would put this here, Anne Hathaway giving praise to Uma, makes me like her more and she absolutely should look up to her, nice to hear:

"Like almost every young female actor in Hollywood, Hathaway was a big fan of Streep’s. However, she had concerns about working with her. “I went to see Prime [starring Streep and Uma Thurman]. Uma is on my list of top-10 actresses. I think she is so gorgeous and fearless and so unbelievably talented. When she was acting opposite Meryl, who had put 30 pounds on for the role and wore the most mousy blond wig and glasses and had an accent, I kept watching Meryl and was completely ignoring goddess Uma. Let’s face it, I am not goddess Annie, and I realized when we were shooting the film that in all of my scenes with Meryl I could have been a mop."

She may have super powers in her new movie, but Thurman had to battle hard for happiness off-screen
By Lisa Adams
WITH looks to die for and simply oozing talent, Uma Thurman is the last woman on earth you'd think of as a failure.

The Hollywood beauty has earned her place among the A-listers with a glittering acting career, starring in unforgettable movie classics such as Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill.

But today she reveals that, despite all the success and the glamour of a red carpet lifestyle, she's struggled through moments of crippling insecurity to finally find happiness.

"My professional life was soaring but my private life was in ruins," Uma admits.

"For many years I lived in a kind of self-loathing where I never gave myself much credit for anything I accomplished. I fell into acting and a life that didn't give me the feeling I was doing anything substantial or meaningful.

"Even when I was starring in big films and receiving a lot of attention I kind of dismissed it as celebrity worship."

Now things finally feel on the up for Uma.

The 36-year-old double divorcee is today enjoying life as a single mum to Maya, seven, and Levon, four.

And Uma can't wipe the smile off her face as she chats brightly about her new movie, My Super Ex Girlfriend, which is out in the UK next month.

"Now I've come to accept my life for what it is," she smiles. "I've done some good work. I've been involved with great directors and brilliant actors and I have a pretty interesting life. I've spent a lifetime trying to figure out my place in the world and now I think I'm exactly where I should be. I'm happy to be where I am and who I am. It's all good!"

In her latest film, a romantic comedy directed by Ivan Reitman, who also directed Ghostbusters, Uma plays Jenny, a woman with superhuman powers who doesn't take kindly to her boyfriend (Luke Wilson) dumping her in favour of a cute co-worker (Anna Faris).

Uma is bent on revenge and doesn't think twice about unleashing her powers to ruin her ex's new romance.

The film acknowledges that breaking up is hard to do. That's a harsh fact Uma has learned in real life - again and again. Her first marriage to actor Gary Oldman in 1990 finished after just two years. When she fell in love with Ethan Hawke, her co-star in Gattaca (1997), she hoped it was forever. But the couple filed for divorce in 2004.

She then dated New York restaurateur Andre Balasz but they split up in March.

Just days ago Uma was spotted relaxing on a sun-soaked beach with a mystery man on holiday in France. She refuses to give anything away about this new romance but admits life as a single mum can be daunting.

Although Uma has the luxury of plenty of money, she's been through many of the same sort of problems that ordinary single parents confront. And the best lesson she's learned is self-pity gets you nowhere.

Uma says: "I'm not the first or last woman to be in this kind of situation. There are many other single mothers out there, and there are a lot worse things that can happen to you in life.

"Maybe this was some strange kind of test, because after the fact I can look back on all this and say I've lived through this and come out stronger."

But in the early days after the end of her six-year marriage to Ethan she feared she'd never get over it.

"It's not pleasant to experience any kind of separation, especially when you have children, but you learn to move forward and get on with your life," she says. "It's a natural process and it did in some ways make me more independent and self-assured.

"You see that you're a lot stronger psychologically or at least you have the comfortable illusion that you have more inner strength than you thought!

"At first you feel terrible that something important and valuable has come to an end. But then you learn to treat that time in your life for all the beauty and inspiration it gave you and in that way it comforts you.

"You learn to appreciate everything that relationship gave you and how you can build on it and approach the next chapters in your life, drawing on that time."

The daughter of a gifted academic, Robert Thurman, Uma grew up with a sense that she was never quite good enough. "I reacted negatively in many ways when I was growing up," Uma admits. "I felt the pressure of having to compete intellectually, even though my father never meant for me to take it that way.

"I felt awkward in so many ways but mainly because of the way I looked and felt that other people considered me very strange looking. And at the same time I didn't feel I had the discipline or drive to be the kind of academic marvel I thought my parents wanted or maybe expected me to be."

It should have been a huge confidence boost when her acting career took off. But 6ft-tall Uma felt ugly and was acutely aware of her height, admitting she hated her big feet.

She says: "I didn't think I was doing good work, even after Pulp Fiction, which brought me a lot of attention at a time when my career wasn't moving forward. I felt depressed and strangely angry with myself for not making interesting films or finding good roles I could work with."

But the character Uma plays in My Super Ex Girlfriend strikes a chord with her. "I play a very neurotic New Yorker, which perfectly describes my personality!" laughs Uma.

"I've told all my friends to see this film because I've never got to play myself before.

"All women know the feeling of having a man leave you or betray you in some way and there is a lot of interesting catharsis at work in this story."

But Uma has no wish to possess the same superpowers as her on-screen character.

"I think women have to take responsibility for the kind of men we choose," she says. "Ultimately, we give off a certain energy that is going to attract certain kinds of men. We also allow ourselves to be attracted to men who may not always be the best for us.

"We all know there are men who don't respect us, don't honour us as women, and won't make us happy."

Today, off camera, Uma's greatest source of happiness is her kids. Juggling a busy film career with being mum means her weeks are hectic but she is loving it.

She says: "I enjoy watching my children grow and bonding with them in very fascinating ways. It's the most basic and still one of the most profound experiences to look at your children's faces and watch them and react to everything around them."

Uma is up-beat about the future and is slowly learning that she doesn't always have to live up to her own impossibly high standards. Time is also a great healer.

"You're not as fearful and apprehensive," she says. "But in terms of overcoming the absence of someone who has been a major part of your life -a lot of it just comes down to time.

"The first few weeks and months are awful, and you're incredibly vulnerable emotionally. But then you learn to smile again."

My Super Ex Girlfriend is out on August 4.

I kinda feel bad posting this because it's gossip, but no harm intended. I don't know how you all feel about "blind" items, but I was surfing gossiprocks forum and came across this one from last december which is supposedly about Uma:

***(be forewarned that it's graphic and raunchy!!) :ph43r:

Anyway it made me laugh. Hope you guys aren't offended.

haha yes I read that but I still doubt it is true because Uma and Ethan were so private and I can't see AB saying anything, but it is still funny. And I would not care if it was true or not, but Uma is so private so it seems far fetched. funny though.
