Motherhood interview...

Many moms find themselves in need of a break, but Uma Thurman says that several years ago she found herself contemplating one — on doctor’s orders! “He said, ‘I’m going to write you a prescription,’ and I went OK, what’s he giving me a prescription for?,” she recalls in a new interview with The Times. “And he wrote down on the pad: ‘‘Hotel: one night a week.’” She never followed through, in part because the 39-year-old actress says she found the idea of curling up alone in a hotel room with her books “unthinkable.”

Uma has since reconsidered her stance, however! “When my son turned 7, I sort of stood up straight and I suddenly realized I had been like this [makes expansive gesture of exhaustion], in one way or the other, for the past 10 years,” she notes.

“My big wish now is to make a little time for myself. I think many women, working women, get this. I mean how do you justify that hour and a half to yourself? When you have this to do and that to do and you want to be there…So I really want to do that. I really think it’s necessary.”

Uma feels that motherhood is about “the chaos and the confusion, and also the loss of yourself.” Not that the latter is a bad thing; “There is a good part to losing yourself,” she notes. “Any mother that doesn’t give herself up isn’t a good mother.” At the same time, however, Uma cautions that “you can get to a point where you can’t reach the identity that helped you be stable in the first place — and that is quite a frightening feeling.”

“I must have gone through years of it. Just years of confusion. Guilty when you’re here and guilty when you’re there, of being torn in half. Your happiness depends on where you measure in your sense of duty: what’s your shame level today? What have you forgotten, what did you do wrong, what could you do better?”

WOW..IB does have flashes of brilliance..the first chapter and the dialogue, the chapter where we see Shosanna masquerading as theater owner, the bar sequence with the card game and the German captain...

The rest omg is half baked...all the sequences have potential but they never quite build up to a huge thing....

q1) why are chs conveniently killed off?? Example being the soldier cum actor at the end?? and his getting up and shooting the heroine of the film doesnt really gel quite well with the proceedings...I thought the heroine needed to be around till the end? Seems she was conveniently killed off so that the title could be justified. She was clearly the lead...her death seems forced. Actually if she were alive, this film could not have been named "Inglorious Basterds". Thats because apart from BP's core team, the rest do not really do what the basterds do.

q2) I think Bridget Von's backstory would have been more appealing than Hugo S's story...he really didnt have any significant contribution. Bridge Von's animosity is never explained. There was a very good opportunity of a backstory there.

q3) There was the possibility of a very interesting cat and mouse game b/w Landa and Shosanna when they met at the party? Why isnt this developed? The girl was clearly scared and if Landa could recognize her from that far, wouldnt his suspicions continue?

q4) How did Shosanna inherit the theater? What led her to her aunt and uncle?

q5) Finally, Landa's about turn at the end is kinda forced too..it was so sudden...I mean his character shows no trace of being a two-timing bastard before? While the shock element is meant to shock audiences, it doesnt quite go with the character development in the film.

q6) and exactly what was the necessity of making Mel L. do that melodramatic thing on the screen before the theater is blown up? Not in sync with her character. She appeared to be the strong silent sufferer.

q7) shosanna's backstory? That would have been a necessity since she is clearly the lead.

q8) How did Landa know that the girl running was Shosanna?

q9) The climax is just too "convenient". I thought there would be more twists and turns.

q10) Why isnt the British track developed properly?

The one who has real potential is Melanie L. She has the intrigue and the mystery that characterizes a movie star. BP is just BP. Waltz is good. But to me, Mel L. is the best thing about the movie. Diane Kruger hardly has the mystery to carry off the role of a spy. She is just a decent face. This movie is only 45% correct. But hey thats just me.

"Your reputation precedes you" Quentin..you have 2 monkeys on your back (PF and KB)...thats difficult to surpass. However if there is anybody who can surpass them in terms of screenplay, its u. But IB is not the step towards that.

omg I just decoded this movie ..LOL..I am such a f***ked up bastard..nooo...basterd....hahahaha!!! But then hey thats just me...

WOW 37.6 million opening...I am sorry this film does not deserve to open so big...obviously everyone here is riding the Brangelina Wave. I love Q, but this opening is not due to his status as reputed filmmaker...that is pretty clear...

Same bastard who said he saw Motherhood claims to admire her and then spreads negativity around projects that havent been completed as of yet. It destroys the enjoyment lol. So I replied to his post.

My reply to some nerd called greenville83 on imdb...

How come u saw it before the official US release? Perplexes me. As for the movie, every movie good, bad, and ugly deserves a chance. So why spread negativity around it before its release if u really admire her? She functions exactly as genre actors do..playing with different genres..sometimes they work and other times they dont. Fortunately, she has the talent to play with them..so let her play..she knows what to do.
