I have kept a lid on this, but I saw "Sin City" a couple nights ago. They had a preview in the valley that was not much of a secret. Place was packed. Simply put, the movie rocked!!!

I have never read the comics, but people afterwards told me it was virtually frame for frame from the comics, with the exceptions of some characters being removed altogether.

The whole thing comes off like a Quentin movie. Lots of speeches just before the characters use violence. Very stylized. Some of the violence is shocking. The whole thing is black and white with just a few splashes of red and yellow.

I have not been told, but to me it is very obvious which scene QT directs. It involves a conversation with a corpse in a car.

Mickey Rourke steals the movie for me. He plays Marv, under a lot of makup and prosthetics and is essentially a maniac with a heart of gold. After his girl gets killed, he goes on a mission to make the killers pay. You feel for the guy.

Elijah Wood is freaking scary as hell as essentially a Hanibal Lector type character. He does not have a single word of dialogue. Ain't no fuckin' Frodo!!

The movie is a series of vignettes, much like Pulp. Bruce Willis, as Hartigan is in two of them. The movie opens with that scene with Josh Hartnett we all saw some months ago.

Other good characters are del Toro and Clive Owen. Also, the girls in this movie are pretty fierce. Uma should have been in here somewhere! I was pissed that Alba did not show any skin. For God's sake, she is a stripper! Willis is essentially trying to save her from Sin City itself. There is some good nudity with Jamie King and the very naked Carla Guliani (is that her name?)

It is a rockin' movie and the crowd loved it. I bet it gets reamed come Oscar time, just like KB did, but it will be one of the best movies of the year, no doubt. I will see this again this weekend. This is a true CUB movie if there ever was one. In my opinion, Qt should have done the whole thing.

Some more stuff now that I think about it...

Michael Madsen's character was a disappointment. Was hoping for more.

Josh Hartnett shows up more than once.

There is a girl who would make a good foe for The Bride in Kill Bill. A sword fight between them would ROCK!!

I was not thrilled with Jessica Alba much.

If there is one character I would not want to be alone with it is Kevin, played by Elija Wood. No joke...I will have nightmares.

I think the chapter names are...
1. "The Long Goodbye" this is the one with Mickey Rourke
2. "Big Fat Kill" Clive Owen, Del Toro and some hot chicks
3. "The Yellow Bastard": Bruce Willis and Alba.

I've read the comics and I'm VERY interested in seeing Elijah Wood's Kevin!

The character I'm most eager to see is deadly little Miho. I love her in the comics.

My sister is going to REALLY happy that JH is in the movie more than once (which I suspected b/c the stories majorly overlap with each other. The Long Goodbye and That Yellow Bastard happen virtually at the same time).

Well, I just got back from seeing it a second time. I love it just as much.

I tried to keep track of the body count, but lost track somewhere in the 50's. Some highlights include....

- chopped off hand
- head scraping on ground as a guy drives a car
- Electrocution
- beheading
- gun barrel jabbed thru head
- 3 incidents of people losing their balls
- being eaten by a wolf
- one person losing his arms and legs
- guy getting ear shot off
- guy being turned into a "human pez dispenser"
- katana through the eye
- katana through the head
- guy getting punched in the head so many time his face turns to mush

Basically, all the violence a Cub could love.

How bad is the violence? I get a bit squeamish sometimes, and anything that causes damage to the eye definitely freaks me out.

Is it Kill Bill-esque or more brutal, less cartoonish?

i saw it today and i really liked it
JH doesn't play that big of a part but hes in it twice
the first scene is shown just to show the impersonal side of sin city right? nothin to do with the story correct?
i love the girls in o-town. kom who did you think should have fought BK?
i love when the yellow bastard and hartigan fight lol

OH. MY. GOD!!!!

Okay, aside from some of the acting leaving something to be desired, this movie kicked so much ass! And it didn't look like it was completely done in front of a green screen most of the time (some times it did, but for the most part not). They made it look exactly like the comic books, verbatim and visually. So worth paying the cab fare and the nighttime movie cost.

Wow.

Wow.

Wow.

Sorry, but I couldn't think of anything else to say that hasn't already been said.
I meant my comment as a GOOD thing.

But I don't think I flipped over it even half as much as you and EMT.

Very well done, great looking film, though!
