I plan on seeing this at least twice this weekend. Most likely Sunday and Monday, but if I get off work early enough on Saturday, I'll go see it then, too. |

Well, I'm sure "chicks" do tend to lean more toward Phantom than guys. But if you like musicals, or can appriciate a good one, than you will love this. The music is, in a word, captivating. When I was 11, I heard this music for the first time and it's like you're under a spell and it's magical. And the story is so incredibly romantic and tragic. (God, I really do sound like such a girl.) And there isn't REALLY a happy ending. And everyone has a different fave part/song/etc. And I know lots of guys (who aren't gay) who've seen the musical and loved it. And the best part about this movie is it's unbelievably (mostly) true to the original musical. And they don't really leave anything out (unlike Chicago). And the three main stars do their OWN singing and all have great broadway or opera experience. (Like Emmy started singing for the Metropolitan opera when she was seven and has been in over 30 operas in 5 different languages and has sung w/ Pavarotti.) It's like getting an orchestra section seat to a broadway musical (WITH special effects added) for a tenth of the price. You should check it out. |

I noticed your recent post in 'Who would you choose?':
OOOoooooh, you're walking a fine line there. That's a very tough choice. I thought about it and I'm totally torn about this one. I mean, I love Emmy cause she's beautiful and fresh and her voice is unbelivable and I love the movie and I'm really into Emmy right now (as you can see), so I kind-of want to pick her. But then again, Sarah is the original Christine. I mean, she's the way I thought of Christine Daae for years and years...and years. And if she hadn't had such a beautiful amazing voice and performed so well, and captured so many people's imagination back then, we might not even have a movie today. ....Anyways, so then I thought about all this and I was wondering, who's your choice? I mean, I'm guessing Emmy, but I could be wrong. |

See, I don't know either. Upon watching the movie for the second time and immediately coming home to listen to the original Broadway soundtrack, I realized that both have their merits. At some points, Sarah Brightman's voice annoys me and I think that Emmy did it better. At other times, I think that Sarah did it better b/c her voice is stronger and more trained than Emmy's. I think I need to see the movie again...you know, for scientific research. Maybe I can get a grant from the MPAA. |
