This is just one of those "Ewww, grossness!" things that bug me now and then, but I am a picky person...

STILL! I'm kind of curious. The dreaded bottle of 'mustard' Max seems to have with him constantly in G-Rev doesn't look like mustard at all. But then I got my hands on a raw, Japanese version of the first G-Rev episode, and I'm quite certain he said 'mayo' and 'udon noodles' when he first proclaimed his love for the thing. Mayo... mayonaise.... somehow that seems even more sickening. XD

It didn't fully freak me out until me and a few friends went to this small Japanese food market in the middle of nowhere on Saturday. What did I find but bottles of mayonaise, in exactly the same bottles that Max uses in the show. I think the brand was Kewpie or something. XD;

.... Not only does the thought of noodles on MAYONAISE sound utterly throwup-worthy for me (or hell, mustard for that matter... XD), it doesn't even sound remotely healthy... as much as Max eats it. And the dub claims he puts the 'mustard' on eeeeverything... including STEAK! So then I think, mayonaise on steak.... X_x (Then I fully agree with Daichi throwing a fit when Max tried to make him eat steak HIS way!)

I'm guessing it's a parody on an American custom, hell knows which one. Or perhaps Japanese mayo is different from American mayo, but it still sounds utterly disgusting. XD And if Max's family during their little reunion truly does nothing but talk about eating mayonaise with EVERYTHING ELSE they eat.... it must mean ADDICTION runs in the family! Mwahaha!

... because you'd have to be addicted to want to put mayonaise on everything. XD

Still.... that does leave me with the question of why the dub decided to change mayonaise to mustard. Did they think somehow that mustard on steak was less yucky?

Who knows.... just one of those not-so-cute things we're forced to find out about Max in this season. XD Maybe they just got him hooked on mayo so he wouldn't eat so much sugar...

...So what exactly are you asking. Whether it is mustard or mayonnaise, what difference does it make. It's minor in relation to the other events of G-Revolution. This is like discussing Tyson and Daichi's eating habits. In the world of beyblade, eating mayonnaise with everything is 'normal' when compared to the fact spirits emerge from spinning tops.

...Not to offend you, but this seems to be a pointless topic, or maybe only I am failing to see the point here. The dub changed many things. Maybe they just thought westerners prefer mustard or something. It really isn't that big a deal...

Everything is worth discussing. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it isn't there. XD

I find ALL minor details of the show worth paying attention to! Besides, it's not like this has been a long-known fact or anything.... unless the dub did some maaaajor-for-serious cutting, this whole condiment ordeal never even existed untiiiil this season... and as much as you see Max AND Tyson chowing down, one would think this would've been an established fact earlier on.

... but it's suddenly there, and now I see Max and his dad adamantly on his vow to never eat ANYTHING without mayo/mustard ever again. Makes me think something's going on~ what exactly, I'm not sure.... that's where everyone else comes in with CRACKPOT theories.

My curiosity of the dub changing the mayo to mustard is more along the lines of 'Who do they think they're fooling?'. Because I still say that looks nothing at all like mustard... if they were going to change the mayonaise, you'd think they would change it to something it actually looks like.... XD Though it's Nelvana, which apparently does not grow a crop of the most ingenius dubbers in the world.

Rest assured, if the thought of a slop of mayonaise splattered all over steak is enough to make me wonder WTF is up with Max, it's a worthy topic. <3

I think this is a good topic. It's new, we haven't discussed it before, why not? ^^

I thought it was odd they only brought up Max's love of mustard/mayo in this series. I guess they decided he needed some more character development or something.

Mustard or Mayo... hm. Maybe they just changed it to mustard because it's easier to say? I understand when they change sake or other alcohol to 'tea' (ever watched Tenchi?) but it makes you wonder when they change from one condiment to another XD

It's still pretty funny to see him putting mustard/mayo on everything though XD Made for some funny minor scenes. ^^

For the record, Max and Daichi beybattling over eating rights was like the best thing I had ever seen in a long, long time. XD

Ohhhyes, I do remember Cartoon Network's Tenchi Muyo and how they relentlessly changed sake to tea. Stuff like that does make sense, though even in my young age and watching that show, I knew there was something wrong when tea made people drunk~ even in Dragon Ball Z, Master Roshi apparently had a huuuge frothy mug of beer in the first episodes, and FUNimation fixed this by.... coloring the beer blue.

So Master Roshi drank frothy water. <3

So yeah, stuff like changing terribly not!offensive stuff like mayonaise made me scratch my head a bit. Though the prospect IS terribly disgusting. XD And then Max and his dad were all "Join us, Judy... Join us, Judy..." and now she's probably a mayo-fiend herself.

I guess in some ways it's a good thing they didn't intro this until the last season, though. This brings me back to the VForce episode when Max ate with Alan, and as they're eating ice cream, wouldn't it just suck if Max was all "Whoops, almost forgot about this...!" and then started dumping his mayo-mustard all... over.. the ice cream....

Wow, I can't eat now... <3

I don't see why they had to change it to mustard either, but I agree with Elisa that it did make for some funny scenes. ^_^ And you could also argue that it was a little symbol of Max's individuality in ep45. xD

Yeah, I had actually wondered about it myself. I just stared at the bottle. "Is that mustard?" and started grossing out because I don't like mustard all that much and he said he puts it on EVERYTHING. But if it's actually mayo then I think I could handle it more. [loves mayonaise] It just adds MORE to Max's undoubtedly cute and odd character, making him all the more normal.

It's like my friend Brittany who puts ketchup on corn; or other friends who put ketchup on eggs. Heck, even I put maple syrup all over half the stuff I eat (half the time, it's some kind of soup or meat] Quite yummy <3

Mmm... condiments are interesting.
To me... umm... maybe because to the Americans, Mustard is a more common condiment than Mayonnaise.

I know that Mayonnaise brand/container.

xD So when I saw it, I was like "what the heck is that? Not mustard" and then I looked online which confirmed it was nummy mayonnaise.

WHICH DOESN'T TASTE GOOD IN SOUP.

I think the reason they had Max do it and have a pure Japanese kid like Daichi to look o_O at it because they're trying to show that Americans put ketchup/mustard/condiments on everything. xD

Dude, I think Max put mustard in his soba, which isn't good.

Except yellow on buckwheat noodles would look pretty.

SPAM isn't real meat...

o_O Spam is tinned ham. It was real meat last time I ate it! XD

On topic though. I love that scene where Max puts mustard on Daichi's food and Daichi gets all angry about it XD That's funny.
