Lost Universe is a science fiction / comedy series from the same creator as Slayers. It has in fact earned the nickname "Slayers in space" among many people, although this is somewhat unjustified. There are many similarites, and even an in-joke crossover with some of the names, and, as well, the first few episodes do indeed seem a lot like Slayers. However, further into the show Lost Universe develops the story and characters very deeply and becomes quite serious while still managing to keep the comedic elements. In the end it becomes quite unique in it's own right. The show is about Kane, who is a trouble contractor, which is basically a mercenary for hire, doing various jobs contracted to them for money. He pilots the Swordbreaker, which is a "Lost Ship", one of a few remaining ships that technologically advanced from an era now lost to science. Swordbreaker has a holographic (and sarcastic) AI named Canal as well. Kane meets Milly on one of his jobs and when she gets fired as a detective for messing up, she blames Kane for it and joins him until he can repay her for it. They, along with the Universal Guardians (space police) get involved with a large criminal organization that has control of several planetary systems and is expanding. The organization end up with particular interest in the group because of Kane's Lost Ship, as well as some hidden connections to his, Milly's and Rail's past. Overall, Lost Universe is a fun series with good music and excellent battle scene computer graphics.

I´ve never seen Lost Universe, but I know it because I´m a Slayers Fan as well.BUT,I never felt like Lost Universe is the Slayers in space because the characters are different and the whole scene at all.I mean, who can imagine that it is like Slayers? It´s from the same person,so why should people wonder about the same kind of humour? It always is hard to differ two series and make it´different from the one which was shown before, that´s my opinion about it.I don´t understand people who compare it to Slayers...
