Revak Jestrol stepped out from the Gateway and let it shut behind him. He took a deep breath of the cool, fresh air of his homeland. It was good to be home, he had not made a trip to Shienar in several years, being caught up in his business at the Black Tower. This was not a trip for pleasure though. Jagged black peaks rose to either side of him, the ground was barren and rocky, a thin mist drifting through the pass in wispy patches. Tarwin's Gap. The battles that have been fought here, the blood that stains this ground... The war with the Shadow was never-ending and Tarwin's Gap had always been a key posistion. If the rumors he heard were true, if war was coming to the Borderlands again, it was here that the hammer would fall the hardest. An attack could come from the smaller pass north of the Plain of Lances in the west, but that pass could be held much easier. Revak began to walk through the pass, heading northeast, to the Blight. He had walked this stretch a hundred times, given his own blood more than once to hold it against the Shadow. He knew when it was normal, when things were the way they were supposed to be. There were times when it was not so, when you could feel the wrongness in the air, the taint of the encroaching Blight. That wrongness was there now, Revak could feel it down in his bones. He eyed the surrounding peaks grimly, the black slopes of the Mountians of Dhoom. All manner of creatures coulld be up there, watching him, waiting. Many Southlanders seemed to forget that there were worse things in the Blight besides Trollocs and Halfmen, which most didnt believe in either. Looking upwards, he saw a lone raven circleing overhead. Even as he formed the weave for a fireball, the bird wheeled in mid flight and began flapping to the north. The ball of flame left his hands, incinerating the raven before it had gone more than a hundred feet. The bird had undoubtedly been a spy for a Halfman, and if the Fade was nearby, it certianly knew he was here. Even if it hadn't seen the blast, it could sense him channeling. Drawing his two-handed blade from across his back, he swung it lightly and continued his trek through the Gap. He held saidin as he did so, knowing it would lead the Myddraal straight toward him like a beacon. It might well bring a hundred Halfmen down on him. "It would seem the rumors are true," he muttered darkly. Edited by Revak Jestrol, Mar 19 2009, 03:43 AM.

((This is a post for Zasha, not Darkling)) Zasha's iridescent blue eyes looked out across the land before her. There was a slight chill on the wind as it brushed against her cheek. She watched closely as snow flitted about in the wind, nothing permanent yet, she thought, just sprinkles. She let herself sigh, watching how her breath came white from the heat within her body. She'd been crouched, listening to the land around her, her commander was not far ahead of her, maybe only minutes. She'd stayed behind, waiting, listening. She would move to join him soon. These scout missions were routine by now, after a year with these Shianar men. She was slowly growing used to this cool land that laid so close to the blight. Her head jerked up to look at the sky as she heard a bird over head. Now was the time to move. She picked up her sickles that she'd set on the ground beside her and with them clutched in her hands she stood up, the wind catching her long blond hair. Her clothing jingled as did her hair, from the assortment of beads and metals woven into it. Her lips curled up into a smile and she moved quickly up the pass and towards her commander. Revak was not far, but she ran all the same. The bird was one indication of half men, dark friends, battle. Once she grew closer she let her bare feet come to a slower pace and she finally stood just behind her commanding officer. She was not out of breath and her body was alive, primed. She turned her eerily blue eyes on Revak and bowed her head slightly to him. "I saw the bird. It seems we might find action this day after all." |

Revak looked over at the woman with a blank stare for a moment, then sighed and released saidin. In his melancholy state and filled with the fury of the Power, he had nearly forgotten about Zasha. She often ranged far ahead or fell behind of her own accord. They had traveled together, worked together in a way, on several ocassions over the past year or so. He lowered his sword and nodded to her words. "It won't be long now," he said gruffly. To say that Zasha was beautiful was an understatment; with her long blonde har, her soft face, her glowing blue eyes. But Revak found the woman to be quite strange; with the beads and metals she wove through her hair and into her clothes. The woman was handy in a fight though. "Remember, we cannot linger long," he said flatly. "We must return to report that the activity is encroaching on the Pass. The Blight doesn't just stir, its shifting." He remembered his own thoughts, just moments ago, wishing for a hundred halfmen. Sometimes he wondered if the old tales of the taint on saidin would come to pass again. Perhaps the taint had not gone completely. Perhaps it had lain dormant for the past three hundred years. He thought this because he at times wondered if he was not going insane. He sometimes had a hard time distinquishing between recklessness and bravery. Shaking his head, he continued walking, eyeing the sky, as well as the surrounding peaks. They were out there somewhere, and there were likely more behind them. If he and Zasha could thin thier numbers a little before the rest arrived, so much the better. Preperations were under way in Shienar, but Revak wasn't sure that it wasn't already too late. |

Zasha followed Revak, closely at his right side, but just a step behind. Her bright eyes were keen and she watched the pass with the patience of a warrior. She could feel the anticipation of battle stirring in her muscles and she drew out her sickles, as she heard a twig snap just to her left. "Trollocs." She whispered to Revak. She knew he would agree, there was a sour smell on the air and to her, that always meant Trollocs. Three large beasts crashed through the brush on their left. Trollocs, their bodies looking like men but their faces...one was a bear, the other two were goats. They lifted their heavy weapons and ran at Revak and Zasha. The Bear held a great battle axe, forged from black metal and charged Zasha, she only had enough time to duck and roll out of the way, between his legs. The axe hit and sunk into the froze ground. The Trolloc grunted and hefted his axe from the earth then turned to get his barrings. He snorted and gave a long, terrifying growl as he looked at Zasha. She crouched and waited for his attack. She was not stupid, she knew the great beast's strength far out matched hers, but what she lacked in strength and mass she made up for with quick movement. He lunged at her, while the other two lifted their weapons and ran at Revak. Zasha rolled out of the Trolloc's way once again, lifting her sickle as she did to catch the back of the monster's knee. She felt her blade slip deeply into the soft flesh of the Trolloc's knee and he cried out in pain and fell on the ground. She seized her moment and swept back quickly, sweeping her sickles in sequence across the beasts throat. He gargled in his death and she let her eyes rest on the two that were left. Her calm would have been frightening for any to see. But she this was her calling, to defend this land, fight for the Light and destroy the Dark Lord's minion. One of the Goat headed Trollocs snorted in fury and pointed at Zasha. "You will pay for this, bitch of the Dying Ground!" Zasha let herself smile and ran to aid Revak. |

Revak Jestrol smiled grimly as the beasts charged. He took the Void, pushing Zasha out of his mind and bellowed a roar of his own as he met the Trollocs head on, breaking their charge like a jeety breaks a wave. He flowed between them, taking the two down with hardly a thought. Then there was another one, this one with an eagle's beak, than another with a wolf's muzzle, another bear. It was suddenly a flood of the twisted beasts, thier chilling howls echoing down the pass as they charged forward. Revak stood, almost stunned for a moment. The void trembled as instinct tried to take over, his mind screaming at him to run as the black tide grew with every moment. War was upon them. Seizing saidin, he hurled fire and lightning amongst the leading trollocs, making the gorund erupt at thier feet before throwing up a wall of fire. Grabbing the aiel woman, he tore open a Gateway, quite literally throwing her through before following himself. They fell through the portal, landing in a jumble in his tent at the encampment of the gathering Borderlander forces. The roars behind them were cut off as Revak let go of saidin and the Gateway closed. They were indeed out of time. |

(A post for Zasha, once again) The beautiful blond Aiel woman was about to kill everything in sight of her, saving for her commander, Revak, but she was suddenly taken in hand and thrown through a gateway. In moments she was laying on her back, the wind knocked out of her and her face firmly up against Revak's. Her body was under him and she was quietly gasping for breath, not from his weight but from the shock of the gateway traveling and from the landing. She released her grip on her sickles and pushed them away, then tilted her head up and tried for another deep breath, to slow the shock and return to normal, but there was of course the close proximity of her captain and his heavy armored body on top of hers. After a few breaths she found that her lungs could take the oxygen deeper and though her heart raced she was regaining her composure. "I did not expect that." She breathed and lifted her hands to rest on Revak's shoulders. Whether he was unconscious or simply recovering as she was, she wasn't sure. He was still. A few more breaths and she was fine. Her mind was clear, her body ached, and she tapped lightly on Revak's back. "Captain, though this position does comfort me, I must ask that you release me. If someone sees and gets the wrong idea..." She let herself smile at the thought. For so long she'd been the only woman, fighting with these Shienarian men she had not let herself dream of romantic entanglement. Hers was the dream of battle and defeating those remnant armies of the shadow that thought to organize and march south into the Shienar lands. But she did long for love, she was still a woman, she'd just never admit it to anyone...or herself. |
