Character Name: Edward Fairfax III

Character Stats: 3.7.3.9.7.8.3.

Character Race: Human Caucasian, (British Descent)

Approx. age: 17

Level: 2

Character Personality: Edward is of a rare breed in the wasteland. A gentleman. He is charming and kind. Even in the direst situations, he remains calm. He believes in the common good of people and trusts people to do the right thing. He believes in the strength of law and order, rather than the violent rule of others. Edward is outspoken and is very comfortable speaking about his beliefs, a remnant from when his father was grooming him to take over as mayor. Many of his traits have been passed down from his family’s aristocratic past. His confidence and charm helps him get out of many stick situations.

Edward is meticulous about his manners around other people and treats them very politely. His standing in society means quite a lot to him, as does the respect of his fellow men. His father educated him in how to act with grace and dignity in all his actions, and to respect other people. Edward has quite a distaste for violence and he prefers to solve problems with his mind or his wits, and if all else fails, running away.

Character Appearance: Edward stands at 5’11’’. He has a young, fresh face. His skin is lightly tanned, but naturally quite pale. Edward keeps good care of his appearance. He is almost always clean-shaven and keeps his shoulder length black hair clean. He keeps his hair swept off to the side, away from his green eyes. His nose is broad and straight, which is unusual for the wasteland, where most people have had it broken at least once, but Edward has been in only a handful of fights in his life.. He also has thin, wiry lips and a strong jawline.

He is very slender, having never done any sort of manual labour in his life. His arms are thin, with not much muscle; however his legs are quite muscular. He has very good posture, keeping a straight back and his shoulders up. He moves gracefully and with intent, like he is on a mission. He has an atmosphere of trust around him, like all politicians do, but unlike them, the trust is well placed. Edward tries to keep up a smile most of the time, which has gotten him some odd looks from people over the years.

He has a calm soothing voice, and an unusual accent for the southern wasteland. It seems that the British aristocrat accent of his ancestors has amazingly stuck with his family through the years. He is dressed quite elegantly for the wasteland. A pair of stylish, yet impractical dress pants, with matching shirt. Over the shirt is a waistcoat, stitched together from two old ones of different colours. He manages to keep these quite clean, but wear and tear has begun to fray the edges and tear the stitching. He also wears an old black trilby hat, partly as shade from the unforgiving sun, partly just for style.

Inventory:
The Phazer
Lead Pipe
Crude Post-War formal outfit (elaborated upon in appearance)
Breaking Bad Chemical Suit
Courtroom Lunch
Stick of Afterburner Gum
'I Voted' Sticker
Bricklayer's Fan Package: Wow what great luck. They may have been the bottom seed all year, but this team won big against Shibalba in the 5th place game. They're a team of ex mud-pit workers, but what they lack in flash, speed, and skill, they more than make up for in strength and endurance. They're fierce up front and lay down some hard hits.

You have received a black Bricklayer's baseball cap (the decal is a poorly done adobe red brick with BB in big letters). Wear this for a +10 reputation in Brick. You have also received free tickets to any Bricklayer's game of your choosing next season. Includes the ability to sit in the mayor's box. Two tickets, non-refundable.

Golden Glory (T1, Good Condition) - An old .32 revolver with 'gold' plating around the cylinder. The barrel has the name etched into it.

Character story: The Fairfax family were wealthy aristocratic landowners in Great Britain before the war. They were well respected members of the upper class and also held a seat in the House of Lords. They resided in Leeds castle in Kent and owned the surrounding area. When the Resource Wars began, they used their various connections to avoid military service, as they were “essential for the running of the country.” The war escalated quickly and Lord Edgar Fairfax was worried for the survival of his family. When the country was in its darkest hour, the family packed their bags and fled to the United States.

They arrived in America, their spirits high and with smiles on their faces, believing they had survived. Little did they know that the apocalypse would follow them. On Saturday, the 23rd of October 2077, the bombs dropped and the world, by most accounts, ended. The Fairfax family survived and soldiered on. Lord Edgar eventually succumbed to radiation poisoning, leaving control of the family at the feet of the eldest son, Arthur. He was a cunning and clever young man, who used his wits to build up a small village, which he named Maidstone after his home town back in Britain. The village ran smoothly for generations under the rule of the Fairfax family, eventually growing into a large town. The leadership of Maidstone passed down the line of the family, from Arthur to his son, to his son, to his son and so on.

Or at least that was the story Edward’s father told him.

Edward Fairfax the III was born on the 22nd of October 2257, to then Mayor of Maidstone, and his wife Catherine. From an early age, Edward’s father groomed him to take over his position. He was taught reading, writing, public speaking and many other skills a successful leader would need. While his father cared for him, as Edward would be his successor, Catherine was absent for most of his childhood as she had died giving birth to his brother Terrence, when he was two. As Edward learned from the testimony of other townsfolk, this event changed his father drastically. While his rule was quite fair and well-liked before, however after his wife’s death, he slowly became more ruthless, eventually executing criminals for minor misdeeds and exiling anyone who spoke against him.

Edward continued his education, waiting for the day either his father would change, or he could escape with Terry. The people of Maidstone were angered at his father’s leadership. They couldn't take it anymore. Revolution had come to town. They defeated the guards easily through the sheer power of numbers. They came up to the extravagant house where they lived, and with one gigantic cheer threw molotovs through the window, and watched as the tyrant burned to death. However, Edward escaped from the house and ran out into the desert, never looking back. He wandered out into the desert alone, the last of the Fairfax family.

Character strengths and weaknesses: Edward is quite charismatic and is able to convince people that he is right quite easily. He has an air of trust around him, making it easier for people to trust him. While he is a gentleman, in situations where his life is on the line, he can be quite cunning. A misspent youth has taught him how to hide from other people quite well. Of course, if all this fails him, he can also run faster than Yao Guai on speed. He is also quite skilled in the art of public speaking and gets on quite well with most types of law enforcement.

Edward can’t fight for shit. He fights like a turtle that has been flipped onto its back. Due to lack of any sort of practice, his aim is awful. He’s more of a danger to himself than others in combat, he lacks any real-world combat experience and can’t take a punch. However, his most dangerous weaknesses are his over-confidence and recklessness. He believes his strengths are much stronger than they actually are, and this has gotten him into a more than a few unfortunate accidents in the past. He refuses to check his plans for flaws and usually just runs with the first thing that pops into his head.

This character is interesting and has a well defined flavor and feel. The high society style bureaucrat has been attempted before, but never stuck. Let's hope this one sticks - because I love that just having a charismatic high society type is a well defined fallout archetype and I think it works amazingly well with the setting.

As far as the character goes I like his own personal spin on the tale and I enjoyed the (intrigue?) over the possible true story of the town his family ran. I am also looking forward to seeing how his high society British values have been morphed over time by the south - sort of like a new generation of landed gentry for the wasteland.

I won't stretch it out anymore,

you pass!

have fun in the wasteland, and like I said, I look forward to this being a character that sticks around and develops.

Besides that, maybe there is another fun forsaken heir out there for him to meet ;)
