Character Name: Bondurant de Raconteur S.P.E.C.I.A.L: 6.6.5.6.7.7.3 Strength (6): Bondurant possess only slightly above average strength. Although he is certainly not the weakest, and can certainly pull his own weight plus some more, he is by no means the strongest person out in the wasteland and will easily be outclassed by the muscle heads of the wastes. Perception (6): Bondurant possesses a sharper eye and a more alert mind than most. However, he is still prone to the all-too human vice of merely not paying attention; and his problems with torch means he is often not paying attention more often than he is. Endurance (5): Bondurant possess only average endurance. Charisma (6): With his trademark crooked smile and easy going demeanor, Bondurant has an easier time than most with getting along with others. However his at times explosive rage often leaves a negative impression on others (obviously) which is why the lower score. Intelligence (7): Bondurant’s father gifted him with a cunning and sharp mind. Bondurant also had access to a number of private tutors in his youth, leaving him with a higher intelligence score than most wastelanders. Agility (7): Bondurant is, almost surprisingly, rather fast and agile for someone of his background. Bondurant has used his naturally higher agility to his advantage in multiple occasions. Luck (3): Luck has, unfortunately, never really been Bondurant’s strong suit and it’s shown throughout his life. Character Race: Human Approx. age: 20 Character Personality: Bondurant has rare trait in the wasteland, an easy-going and laid back personality. Almost never raising his voice beyond acceptable volume, speaking with articulation and surprising politeness, and rarely seen without his trademark crooked smile on his face; Bondurant is a refreshing change from a wasteland full of dour personalities that most adventurers like himself seem to possess. In addition to his fairly easy-going personality, Bondurant is also quite the joker. Cracking jokes based on him, others, and really anything that he might be able to use to promote a laugh; many people find it very easy to get along with the young man. However, despite his easy-going persona Bondurant possesses multiple problems. The first would be his raging inferiority complex. Early on in his life Bondurant’s father often reminded him of his supposed inferiority to his older brothers. It’s left Bondurant with a fear of failure, with the mindset that if Bondurant fails at something, whether it is a task or a set goal or something similar to the previous two mentioned, then his father was proven “right”. In order to compensate for it, Bondurant attempts to succeed at any given task or set goal regardless of what the cost may be. Bondurant’s blindsided attempts to deal with his problem often does more harm than it does good, regardless of what Bondurant’s opinion of his methods may be. In addition to his “ignore all costs” policy being obviously harmful for his physical health, any failure that he has will feed into his cycle of self-hatred and inferiority that often catalysts in episodes of explosive rage that will leave him destroying property, attempting to harm himself or others as well as abusing substances such as drugs or alcohol. During this episodes Bondurant is not the easy going person many people know him as (as you might expect from a man suffering from a temporary mental breakdown), and instead is a violent rageaholic. In addition these episodes grow more and more frequent, something that Bondurant himself has begun to recognize and occasionally attempts to self-medicate with frequent Voodoo use. Bondurant also possesses a fairly sharp and active mind. Bondurant’s natural intelligence was blessed with having numerous tutors in his youth, hired by his family to teach Bondurant and his older brothers about grammar, history, politics and other soft sciences. Its left Bondurant as someone who is always thinking, analyzing, the world around him and Bondurant (perhaps ironically, given his father’s behavior towards him) has his father’s gift of being a natural schemer. With the gift of being able to think on his feet quickly to come up with a plan and then being able to add layers to the plan as necessary; which coupled with his willingness to see any of his set goals through it results in an at-times dangerous combonation. Character Appearance: Bondurant stands at five feet, ten inches tall (5’10’’) and weighs in at roughly one hundred and seventy-two pounds (172 lbs) of primarily leaner muscle as a result of having a physically active lifestyle. He has an almost roundish face with green eyes, almost strikingly blonde hair which is kept at a close crop to prevent any sort of opponent from grabbing onto it, and a chain curtain type beard that is actually fairly darkly brown with blonde roots. Bondurant has a button nose, which has obviously once been broken and then reset poorly and his left cheek has the slightest of acne scarring. Bondurant, as noted above several times, possesses a crooked smile. His teeth are actually (and almost surprisingly) white, considering the state of dental hygiene in the wasteland. The front of his legs are covered in numerous scars as a result of the brush of the Great Swamps, most of them which had become irregular and deformed as a result of improper care. Numerous smaller scars dot the knuckles and fingers of Bondurant’s hands as a result of numerous incidents, including traveling and fighting. Finally, Bondurant possesses a single token of his birth family; the family brand on the left side of his chest. In the simple shape of three lines vertical with three dots in between the lines; it’s been burned into his chest and (unlike the other scars on his hands and legs) has actually healed completely under the supervision of trained medical staff which has left it in excellent condition, instead of morphing like other burn scars often do. Starting equipment: - “Reckless” Armor (Poor Tribal Battle Armor): Consisting of scrap metal covering only his forearms, hands, feet and his shins; Bondurant’s custom set of armor earned it the nickname of “Reckless” from the Swamper warriors he once battled alongside of. It fits his more agile and stealthy combat style, at the sacrifice of being less useful in front up engagements. - Hunting Bow (Junk Flinger): A simple bow from one single piece of wood and stringed with material scavenged from old clothing; it’s a fairly crude but effective bow. It’s range is limited but it gets the job done as Bondurant has found. - Scrap Knife (Kitchen Knife): Made from the reforged elements of the classic American green road sign, it has now become a weapon of war. In addition to sporting a new grip, you can still make out the old road name of “Baltimore Ave” on the sides. Bondurant typically keeps it sheathed at the small of his back for quick and easy access. - .32 Detective Special (Rudimentary Revolver): This tier one revolver isn't fancy, but it's rigid enough to deal with dogs, as already proven by it's former owner Christian. It's got his name enscribed in the grip, like some kind of childrens toy. - Swamper War Club (Tier One Baseball Bat): A parting gift from Siggy, Bondurant's mentor and master alike; it's gruesome old and cracked, but it's still effective at bashing skulls in. Character story: Born as the third son into the powerful De Raconteur family of C'est Toujours Ensoleillé, Bondurant was slated to have a fairly easy and luxurious life that was common of the noble families of his city. His early days were spent playing with his two older brothers as well as receiving an early education from the various private tutors that his parents hired to educate their children in the various subjects (such as history, sociology, psychology, etc. ) that they believed were needed for their children to become successful nobles in the city. His parents remained distant during his early childhood, often busy grooming his two older brothers for their eventual succession as the leaders of the De Raconteur family line or enacting political schemes in quiet backrooms of their family mansion. Bondurant recalled that he had fonder memories of his butler than he did his parents during his early childhood. Bondurant, from an early age, was reminded by his father multiple times he will never be able to lead the family nor was he worthy to do so. His father came from the “old-school” version of CTE noble families, believing that only the first two born sons were capable of leading the family while all of the other siblings were more or less cast to the side. Despite having a rocky-at-best relationship with his father, Bondurant kept a great relationship with his two older brothers who loved their youngest brother very dearly. Following a rather heated argument that Bondurant had with his father, his eldest brother Oscar actually invited the young Bondurant on a carriage ride to cool off and to talk about the situation that Bondurant was in as the third son in a traditional noble house. The carriage driver ended up taking the wrong road without either the two de Raconteur brothers realizing it, who were busy goofing off inside of the carriage to realize that anything was wrong. It ended up leading them to the outskirts of the Great Swamps, where a Swamper war party lead by Siggy Merk of the Ranald Clan was patrolling. The Swampers saw an easy target and pounced, killing the driver and the two guards with the carriage and taking the two de Raconteur brothers hostage. Sending word for ransom back to C'est Toujours Ensoleillé, both brothers expected to be freed within the week. However, Bondurant’s father sent an entourage with enough money for only one and with strict orders to bring back Oscar. As a result, Bondurant was left in the clutches of Swamper captivity. The Swampers themselves were at a lost on what to do with the young Bondurant, who at the time had barely just turned twelve. Some advocated that they turn the young boy loose in the Swamps and allow fate to decide what was in store for him, while other suggested they try to sell him off into slavery. However, Siggy Merk (the very man who led the raid to imprison him) decided to take him as a personal slave instead. The decision was met by approval of the clan. Siggy Merk, rather than treating the boy cruelly, ended up treating him more like a nephew than anything else. Siggy Merk’s own son had been killed in a conflict between their rival Solomon Clan several years ago, and Siggy Merk found that the young Bondurant had similar facial features to his lost son. Eight years passed by, and the young boy slowly turned into a man. Although his life was a strange one by now, Bondurant found himself in a unique position that even he had to admire. Educated by the finest that C'est Toujours Ensoleillé could offer but at the same time learning the art of war from a clan of some of the most brutal and savage warriors the wasteland has produced so far. Eventually working up the courage to ask permission to leave Siggy Merk’s services, he was esastic when Siggy granted him his wish. Grabbing up his meager belongings, he soon set out into the wasteland at large. Character strengths and weaknesses: Bondurant has several strengths. Having the unique access to an education afforded to him by being born in one of the noble families of C'est Toujours Ensoleillé which resulted him in being educated the soft sciences such as history, politics, psychology and sociology (if only to a limited degree) in addition to spending several years with the barbaric Swampers who taught him most of the combat skills he now possesses, including his skill at grappling and melee combat as well as using other, cruder ranged weapons. Siggy Merk taught him how to move without being seen, a sort of school in field craft and stealth training that only a veteran warrior like Siggy could offer which has resulted in Bondurant becoming one of the sneakier people in the wasteland. In addition he possesses his father gift at scheming and planmaking, which was detailed in his personality section. However, Bondurant has (like all human beings) multiple weaknesses. To begin with his inferiority complex is the most apparent, which affects pretty much everything he does. He’ll often charge into situations without regards to what it may cost him, worrying only about victory and success, and these “total war” approaches to his problems often leaves him alienated and in some cases physically harmed as he failed to properly prepare himself. In addition Bondurant’s rage episodes often cause his once friends to jump ship, so to speak, away from him in addition to often harming himself. Finally Bondurant is currently dealing with a Voodoo addiction, which he uses to self-medicate himself out of his rage episodes and inferiority complex. Up to three Traits: Good Natured, Kamikaze, Chem Reliant |
