"If we meet anyone remotely annoying, or even someone whose voice I don't like, I'm gonna kill 'em, aright?" Jackal stated - the same tone as if saying rain was wet, "Because I'm just not in the mood for anyone who rubs me the wrong way. You can take his booze when I'm done taking everything he had, has and ever will have." Jackal hawked and spat off to the side, the hissing, irradiated gobbet of bloody, viscous saliva sticking in the sand a respectable distance away. He sighed, coughed and continued walking. "I'm not gettin' any bad voodoo, but I reckon we're not alone too. Might just be a pariah dog waitin' for me to drop so it can eat whatever's left of me. But I'm not gonna drop, so that rules that out," Jackal rasped, drawing his pistol again, "And if it's worse than that? Well, I get to kill someone. It's a win-win situation, really." |

The midget was starting to like the ghoul, "Hmm, does that mean my voice has a certain lyrical quality that's stopping you from killing me then?" He was never good at humour and what was good was as dry as the desert ground. "If we get stuck, this hunk of junk can get us out of trouble, I set the kill bit here to 100 yards but it'll be ready for anything close..." He said tapping the MG before poking some dirt from the trigger, "Never was a fan of travelling light." Ed stopped dead and whispered, "Ok, I know I heard something then, you said something about raiders and...cannibals? I hope to God it's not cannibals, I'm to sober." He kept shuffling forward but he flicked the safety catch on his machine gun and prepared for a 180 degree hip blast if necessary." |

"I don't know if the people I remember even exist any more. You kinda lose track of things at my age. I'd worry about the Raiders more'n the Cannibals anyway. These ones were bad news. Organised. Militant. Not the bandit gangs people call Raiders. Naw, these bastards were Vikings with guns," Jackal rumbled, spitting again and trying to take bigger steps. Maybe if he hit another adrenaline high - or shot up on that Psycho - he could run. But on Psycho, he'd probably kill Eddy. And eat him. And whatever else a lunatic on Psycho would do to a midget. His muscles were beginning to loosen up a little as the lactic acid build-up had. finally dropped to a non-painful level. After days of constant muscle cramps. He drew his knife in his left hand, wincing at the painful shoulder movement it involved. "Couldn't be worse than any predator hangin' around here anyway. I remember Morrigan Crows in these parts," Jackal continued, squinting into the distance as the squat, tumble-down silhouette of ruined buildings began to creep up in the moonlight on the horizon. "We stop there in shelter for the night," Jackal commanded, jabbing his pistol wildly in the direction of the ruins. |

"Ah good, big birds, big strong birds with talons...I fucking hate birds but Morrigan Crows'll pick you up and swoop of with ya, and that's just normal sized people," Eddy's smile faded as the realisation dawned on him that if a crow did descend upon him he wouldn't likely make it. "Ok, if we make it to them buildings, we have to camp out on a building with three floors, second floor preferably, that way birds can't get down, we'll be off the ground which saps heat and the raiders or bugs will have a hard time spotting us and a harder time getting us." This made sense he assumed, he had done it before in dangerous places and he was still here. "Check it out, city limits, we're close." |

"Nothin's gonna have more'n the second floor here kid," Jackal sighed, running his hand through his hair, "I'm pretty sure I burned down the tallest building in the region not too long ago." Jackal continued to look around in an attempt to pick out anything - or anyone - silhouetted on the dunes by the starlight, but no sell. He couldn't see a thing. And vision to the left was still a little fuzzy. He grunted sharply as his left leg began to cramp up, finally protesting having to bear his weight for days due to the injury in his right leg. He flexed his fingers around the grips of his weapons as he walked, paranoia slowly growing. They both had the feeling they were being followed. The follower hadn't showed it's face yet. They weren't being followed. They were being hunted. "Pick up the pace little man. We need to get to those ruins and we need to get there fast," Jackal barked, leaning his weight on his left leg and lurching forwards at a marginally quicker pace than before. |

Eddy wobbled along faster but grunted at Jackal when he began to overtake him. "You just shout that out as loud as you can, maybe the cities interested in our appearance?" He wondered what it was that was stalking them but he hoped they wouldn't find out. Not that luck was ever on his side. The midget slowed down again once he realised that he was leaving Jackal behind and returned to a similar pace from before. "Once we make it inside, we gotta see about your wounds, your still err, oozing and it's best you have as much...blood in you as possible in case we get into a fight or something." He turned into a tarmac road split by encroaching scrub and repeated heat and freeze expansion. "Let's pick up the pace as much as possible...whatever it is that's watching us is arguably making more mistakes because I can here something easily now." |

Jackal ignored the little man's words. Acknowledging them would only increase the likelihood of wanting to slice his throat while he slept. Jackal was moving at a sort of stagger-jog by this point, and felt like he was about to drop from exhaustion. He could hear their pursuer by now. He pounded over tarmac and concrete now, his heavy boots impacting on the harder ground and pushing him forwards faster. He didn't need to outrun whatever was after them. Just needed to outrun the midget. He heard low, thundering steps behind them. Okay. That sounded like a mighty big predator. Outrunning the midget was no longer his primary objective. Keeping the midget and his machine gun alive was now the aim. Jackal risked a look over his shoulder and found himself looking into the glowing red eyes of a demon spawned by the world before the War. "Fuck!" Jackal roared, rushing into the first building with a second floor. Of course, the Industrial Builder Robot ploughed through the wall, barely even slowing down. Just as Jackal had guessed. Fueled by adrenaline and raw shit-your-pants terror, Jackal bolted up the stairs, his injured leg beginning to bleed all over again as he hurled himself out of the thing's reach on the second floor. The stairs couldn't hold the machine's weight. Just as Jackal had guessed. It crashed through and stood menacingly on the ground floor, its baleful red visual receptors staring up at Jackal. "The fuck did the midget go?" Liam thought. "No idea. Maybe the thing splattered him a ways back," Jackal answered. "I hope not. We ain't gonna escape this thing alone," Liam replied, "Here's hoping he got to another building." "Yeah," Jackal sighed out loud. |

The explosive steps of the creature ruptured through Eddy's ears too quickly and he jumped instinctively aside as a pounding monstrosity obliterated the surrounding area and pile-drived it's way forward. Fucking rotting shit faced ignorant, self pitying fool! Jackal gonna get me killed A voltaic punch blasted the ground near the midget who had just enough time to glimpse the under belly of the creature. It was a hulk to put it lightly, but it was only in the condition you would expect after two hundred years of bounding around without repair. The hull protecting the extremities was still impenetrable to Ed and the AI inhibitors could not be triggered due to it's new found intellect. Gotta dodge this shit! He picked himself up and tried to power his way into a building, going upstairs was now deadly as his temporary top floor fortress would collapse given enough of a pounding. He would have to find non-negotiable terrain and hope to God that the beast wasn't able to follow. His wretched booze depleted mind buzzed and fizzed as much as the robot as Ed tried with all his intellect to flash through suitable hiding places while running from the lumbering monolith behind him. Sewers...Bridges...some place warm. He thought about the chances of the Builder Robot having infra-red sensors. Suddenly Ed realised the robots pace was slackening and sure enough it trotted off to find Jackal, the trail of debris led the cautious midget to the glowing one's position. "Thank all that is karma, I can fuck off and leave that bastard to fry alone..." He thought with menacing certainty that this was the best course of action. And why should I save the fucking prick, he wouldn't do the same for me, wouldn't be surprised if he was gonna gut me in the night anyway, should never have saved him. Yet Ed knew that if Jackal ever made it out alive, he would hunt the midget down and torture him. "Shit!" The midget grumbled as he watched the robot fall through the stairs. He unhitched his machine gun and let off a salvo of bullets, riddling through the creatures left leg and ending the spray by his back. No real damage done but maybe the trick shot on it's leg would slow it down by a minute percentage. His adrenaline socked heart kicked into overdrive as Eddy looked around for cover...man hole, sewers, he could make it if he could just manage to avoid the titan behemoth that was CURRENTLY TURNING AROUND! |

"Run, you moron!" Jackal howled at the midget as he opened fire with the once-terrifying roar of a machine gun. But to this thing, the battered old German hardware was nothing. The roar was just the pitter-patter of tiny bullets ricocheting off its hide. Jackal drew his Kala Rifle and took an aim at the creature's neck, firing off two closely-bunched shots that did no more than burn some of the peeling blue paint from the monster's hull. "Get to a second floor!" Jackal roared at the midget, "Stairs can't hold this motherfucker!" Jackal fired at the machine again, but to no effect. This was one tough bastard. Jackal snarled and almost got up to jump on its back and initiate a rear naked choke. Like it would've done anything to something with no blood vessels to constrict. Shooting felt like a poor substitute to breaking a neck, but in Jackal's own experience, was much, much safer. He fired again, this time at the monstrosity's menacing red eyes. It paused in its turn towards the midget, rotating its head back towards Jackal. That had certainly drawn its attention. It stood, presumably scanning him and memorising him or whatever it was robots did. But to Jackal, it was a menacing leer. The robot had as good as told him it was going to find a way up onto the building and snap him like a match. So Jackal responded in the only way he felt appropriate to a menacing stare from a giant death machine. He extended his wounded left arm and flipped it off. |

The creature was calculating which one it would eliminate first, the cold eye sockets melted with red light and practically shone out pure menace. For now it was more interested in the ghoul, probably due to it's concentrated levels of radiation mixed with the power of the kula gun. "I'm not going up, you need to get down underground where it can't follow us! What the fuck are you going to do when it begins pulverising the beams in the ceiling or when it kicks the walls down." Eddy fired another salvo of bullets at the robot, this time aiming with more precision at the arms and legs, he severed one of the steam synapses that showed through the metal joints, that would slow it down some what but now it's attention diverged from the pride induced ghoul and looked straight at eddy who scrambled to the man hole and began tugging the stiff cover. The Builder Robot turned it's head almost quizically and then thrusted itself forward, limping almost to counter it's sudden lack of control over one limb. "Come on you fucking piece of sh-" The man hole tore open and Ed stumbled back but threw himself inside, fell nine feet and landed in a gutter of thick, stinking stool. He looked at his leg and cried out in agony and shock, it was sprained probably. He looked up at the small moonlit hole above him and then to the ladder. The machine was way too massive to reach him and it loomed overhead to check for life signs. It likely found a dozen or so rat sized heat readings and then one larger one, but, only slightly larger. Ed pounded his gun and fired off a single shot before the gun jammed, a perfect chance to blind the creature was gone. "Jackal, if you can here me, I'm not leaving you, God knows why but I need to fix my gun, just hold on!" |

Jackal heard muffled shouting from the manhole. He was sharp-eared, but not that sharp eared. He decided to err on the side of caution and assume it was a call for aid against the towering machine looming over the manhole, waiting for the dwarf to either die in the confined space or try to escape, which would result in poor Eddy being reduced to paste. Jackal considered running. If he could get out of the ruins, then he'd be golden - these things only really protected their own territory, from what he'd heard. What he'd heard. "Hear-say. No guarantee. Not gonna outrun that thing," he thought to himself. "Fuck," Jackal grunted out loud, walking across the roofless terrace of joined houses until he was as close to the machine as he could get - the corner house a scant few metres from the manhole. Jackal sighed and reached for the wreckage of the wall, pulling half a brick fom the broken, crumbling structure. He squared up to where the machine loomed over the midget's hiding-hole and tapped the brick against his left palm, guessing the distance for the throw. He wasn't good with spears or the like, but a brick, he could toss. He slapped the brick against his palm on last time before getting his Game Face on, winding up and throwing. The brick struck true, ringing against the machine's head plate and ricocheted off into the night, its corners chipped off. The machine turned back to him just in time for his second chunk of brick to hit it in the face. Jackal held his arms out cruciform and stood right where it could see him. "That's it scrap heap. Look at the pretty Ghoul," Jackal shouted, "Ya big ugly prick!" He ate his words and dropped to the ground as it stooped and launched the manhole cover at him like some hellish discus. Swearing at his own overconfidence, Jackal drew his pistol and took a pot shot at the imposing monstrosity. Much as he hated to admit it, he needed that midget to get out of here. |

Eddy grasped his leg and squinted, was he much use to the ghoul, to be honest he didn't care any more, he was in a perfect position to leave, the robot couldn't catch him and it was unlikely Jackal would ever escape. It was perfect, a win win situation yet, something dug away at him. Jackal was practically helpless, and the robot would never tire. As much as it pained the midget, he had to go back and save that rotting bastard or his conscience would never be clean. "Fuck sake!" He moaned as he bit his lip and began climbing the ladder. He winced from the dull aching pain that radiated from his leg and into his thigh can calf muscles. He would have to get patched up after this, if he made it out. He popped his head up just in time to see the robot launch the man hole cover straight at the glowing one, narrowly missing. Eddy set himself up and unjammed the old MG, "Here goes," *click* "C'MON THEN YOU FILTHY BUCKET OF BOLTS SHOW ME WHAT YOUR MADE OF, LITERALLY!" And so began an enormous torrent of fire, lead connected with metal and sensory neurones. 150 bullets in quick succession. The damage was light but holes had ruptured into the hull of the worker robot and although the damage was aesthetic for now it might show later on. Eddy fixed another chain of bullets and locked the bull up ready for another merciless enslaught. "Get down from there and run Ghoul RUN!" Eddy shouted, by God if he ignored him he'd shoot him as well as the Robot. Coincidently, the robot was now fully preoccupied with Ed and it began to waddle towards the man hole cover, he would have to lure it away so that Jackal could get inside but how? There was only one way and he didn't want to have to do it. He climbed from the safety of his hole and began to sprint and stumble away from the charging creature, popping off quick bursts with one arm as he did. This was there only chance. |

That made things ... problematic. So the dwarf wanted to stay in the sewer. Maybe the sewers in these parts were large enough to scramble through. Jackal sighed and did arguably the studpidest thing he'd done all day. He holstered his pistol and moved to one of the houses with a manhole directly in front of it, creeping down the stairs and checking that the machine was still preoccupied with the midget. Still looming over the manhole. He slipped his prybar from his belt loop and set eyes on the manhole, sprinting for it in what probably was the most gimped-looking gait this side of the Drunken Olypmics. He locked the prybar in the manhole cover and just let himself fall, his body weight levering the cover free with a painfully loud clang. He heard servomotors whine as the metal beast turned towards him. Jackal flashed it a mock salute, then a one-fingered salute and ducked into the manhole as it started moving. Climbing the ladder was more difficult than he remembered. Limited mobility in one arm and a prybar in his good hand weren't helping either. He fell the last three feet, catching himself before dropping into two centuries of dried shit. He hauled himself onto the inspection channel on the side, a two-foot-wide strip of concrete raised above the effluent stream for inspectors to move along and deploy inspection robots. "Hey. Eddy. Further down the channel. Try to stick to the inspection strip. Can't imagine all the shit down here bein' good for any cuts you got on ya," Jackal called, wincing at the amount of injuries he was carrying down here. Then it occurred to him that he was too radioactive for bacterial or viral infections to survive on. At least that was one good thing to think about. |

Seeing that Jackal had succesfully popped into the sewer, Eddy pulled off a veering U turn and darted around the robot before skidding across the dirt next to the manhole, he grabbed the ladder, slipped knocked his shin and fell again, this time more succesfully. "FUCK, MY BLEEDING SHIN!" Arguably more painful than his sprained leg he turned to look at the glowing creature. He buckled over and panted violently. "No beer then?" He asked half serious but with a fresh smile breaking out across his face. "Phew that was bloody close! Oh and your most welcome that I didn't leave you behind." The midget looked down and noted the crap around his shoes, then he realised the stench and clasped his nose. "Your probably right Jackal, this place is loaded with scum, all right for you though! There's nothing left to infect." |

Jackal turned slowly towards the dwarf, his eyebrow rising sharply at the remark. He cleared his throat sharply and changed to his "you're serious?" face. He crouched - not that he had to crouch much to look the dwarf in the face - and locked eyes with the diminutive man. "And you're most welcome I didn't shoot you in the face earlier," Jackal rasped, "Take point now that you've got yer Kraut Gun sorted." Jackal slid past the Dwarf and peered down the tunnel-like pipe. His glow would probably dissuade anything that lived down here going at their back. He drew his pistol and slid the prybar back into his belt. His knife rasped as he eased it from its sheathe and nodded for Eddy to get moving. "If I kill you, I won't stab you in the back," Jackal reassured him. |
