Suvarna trod upon the cracked fields outside Bucket Town. Her cloak clung haphazardly to her back and bottom as the wind kicked up behind her, she had given up straightening it several minutes ago. In one gloved hand she held a cord attached to her brahmin, Indira. Indira had proven to be a docile beast, affectionate even. Suvarna had been using her switchblade to cut free the choicest bits of scrub to hand-feed the creature. One head would invariably moo softly while the other chewed contentedly. "Indira you are blessedly wonderful company, unlike the crazies I had to work with to find you. One was a full-blown maniac, and the other had that quiet, schizophrenic quality. But you? You are entirely predictable and manageable."

She was not just looking for grazing opportunities for Indira however, Suvarna was on the prowl for materials she could use in her little venture. A few days ago she had noticed a silhouette that might have been a car in the distance. "Watch it not be a car Indira. Truth be told, at the distance I saw it, it was just a dark blob on the horizon. It's very likely a rock."

Suvarna would pause as she walked, either to cut loose a dry shoot of grass or to collect bits of wood. It would take far more than she and Indira could carry on a single trip to suit her needs, but it wasn't going to collect and deposit itself at her doorstep in Bucket Town. The silhouette in the distance began to clarify a bit, and Suvarna's hopes that it was a car reignited. "Yes, yes, I do believe it is a wreck Indira. Simply marvelous! Of course if I saw it, it's been seen by others. We shall walk there and find a thoroughly looted corpse of a machine."

Choking down and suppressing any hint of optimism once again she forged on until at last she reached the machine. It's make and model were a mystery to Suvarna, who could make out the battered remnants of fins, shattered light casings, and dented wheel rims. Whatever paint, glass, or rubber it boasted had been stripped by looters, vandals, and nature long ago. Still something amid the half-buried chassis seemed to glint in the light. Suvarna began to close in on the wreck for a closer look when she suddenly ran out of slack and nearly tripped. Indira mooed in stereo and refused to move. "How now brown cow," Suvarna asked with more than a hint of irritation.

Indira's mooing seemed panicked. Suvarna looked around nervously and saw the glint she had spied amidst the shade of the car had multiplied, and she could hear a strange rattling sound. Suvarna began to step backwards, as slowly as the even more frightened brahmin would allow. The raddlesnake that had taken up residence in the wreck began to emerge from its home while Suvarna prepared one of her firebombs. The creature seemed a little sluggish, the chemist could only speculate that it had recently eaten, but it was no assurance that it would try to kill her too. The snake's two heads stared unblinking as it prepared to lunge, ignorant as to the nature of Suvarna's defense. Before it could strike, Suvarna managed to lob the Molotov and smash it against the snake's torso.

The raddlesnake flailed about, hissing loudly and rattling wildly as it burned to death. What little scrub that had grown around the car was similarly ignited and Indira forced Suvarna to move back a ways. Eventually the snake stopped thrashing about and Suvarna came back and started kicking sand onto the fire. It took some time, but the fire was eventually extinguished and the blackened carcass of the snake was exposed. Suvarna didn't know enough about raddlesnakes to determine if it was safe to eat, so she left it for the carrion feeders. She contented herself with a thorough examination of the wreck before heading back to Bucket Town with whatever she could salvage.
