It was a remarkably simple exercise to locate old United States military bases; they stuck out like a sore thumb with their towering fences and the concentration surviving of anti-Communist that indicated an original level that was almost awe inspiring. That and the fact they typically contained a rather high concentration of things that delighted in killing humans. Delight was a poor choice of words Jennifer decided, plucking another glass fragment out of the bat's barrel. She seriously doubted whether a model as simple minded as the blue Air Force Protectron could feel pleasure, even during such a delightful activity as killing. This poor fellow had been easy to outmaneuver, what with being mounted in concrete. Whomever had decided that would make a good gate guard should have their head examined. Satisfied her favorite weapon was once again shard free Jennifer hopped down from the pedestal to solid ground. Across the fractured asphalt her victim's mate had long ago succumbed to the rigors of wasteland living. Probably a super mutant, what else would be able to crush a robot like a tin can? Cradling her bat, she strolled through the wide open gates under the rusted DALE AIR BASE sign humming the Air Force anthem as best she could recall it from the old ROTC manual. "Up in the air, junior bird man! Keep your eyes up in the air!" actually finding the old flying field had put her in an especially good mood. Not encountering anyone else so far, well it'd been a while cine the last time she'd felt this happy. Pity that fellow had been so difficult about telling her whether it was still here. He hadn't seemed to grasp she knew it existed, Jennifer had it in her book after all, she'd even show him! No, instead of confirming it hadn't been destroyed he had spent his last five hours protesting it's existence. Shrugging, she absently swung at a hunk of loose macadam with her bat. He did have the right to do as he wanted, she was sure he would be rewarded in the next life. Or something like that, tilting her head to the side in an attempt to read the dangling sign from the first building, "And when you hear that grand announcement, then we will all have wings of tin. And you can bet your Junior Bird Men, will send. Their. Boxtops. In. All personnel will present identification for inspection by on duty guard." That was helpful. If this was the guard post then clearly they would have something like a map of the installation. Probably locked away in some terminal to prevent the commies from getting it. With a password like, "Kill all the Commies". Jennifer sighed, after the first two or three they did become too easy to predict. Pushing at the door with the end of the bat she was impressed. Still locked, after all this time no one had tried to force the door? Well, most would too likely be consumed with avaricious dreams of the wealth a government complex would hold to be methodical about their search. Humming the last few bars of the song again Jennifer squared up to the door, swinging for the window. It would be a pain to prize out the glass again, but it was simpler then trying to pick it. Nothing exploded or caught fire, so she would have to enter to find any more threats. Reaching through the hole, Jennifer twisted the handle on the inside. Putting the barrel between her stomach and the metal Jennifer pushed the door open with a shove. Glass crunched underfoot as she swept the room for any sign of helpful information just laying around. She was still concerned about the lack of other people, not upset, but concerned that no one else was showing interest in the air base. Perhaps it had already been stripped clean? It's books, charts, and instruments carried off or smashed by heathens. Turning the bat over and over unconsciously in her hands, Jennifer sighed. Such an outcome would be unforgivable, reprisal necessary to potentially recover some of the artifacts. There were some signs of past occupation. Ceramic mugs with faded logos sat on the few desks, hats and coats on a rack. Rusted out sidearms hung in cracked leather holsters on some chairs. Water must have infiltrated, Jennifer thought, it would have been nice to have such a fine holster and belt for historical purposes. Lamps sat unused beside typewriters with half finished reports. Apparently Captain O'Hagan had apprehended some Canadian smugglers trying to bring narcotics across into the country by water. Setting aside her precious weapon, she began rifling through the Captain's chaotic desk. Hm, he'd left behind an Officer of the Day brasard. That might come in handy, she thought slipping it over her sleeve. Continuing, it wasn't long before Jennifer cried out in exaltation. In her hands was a frayed pamphlet with an attractive cover illustration of what was presumably the base from the air in better times. Emblazoned in yellow letters were the words "Welcome to Barksdale Air Force Base!". Carefully unfolding it, yes, yes, there it was! A bit cartoony but a map of the entire establishment secured without having to crack computer security. Giggling gleefully she spun around in a circle, skirt swirling gently, holding the unfolded map up. Such a pretty little pamphlet! It even admonished her to keep it out of the grubby clamoring hands of communists! Well she certainly wouldn't allow that to happen, "It takes just four boxtops, six bottle bottoms, three wrappers, two coupons, and one thin dime!" |

Alanna had been walking all day. So when she saw a building, she was grateful for it. Building meant water, hopefully. And maybe even a place to rest, provided there was no one there. As she got closer, she started to see more signs of destruction- and recent destruction at that. So she moved more cautiously. Like hell was she going to pass it up, but she was going to do her best to not get in trouble. She saw two robots on the ground in front of the gate. In pieces. Someone had not been gentle with them. It looked like one had been crushed, and the other had been battered with a blunt object, as opposed to being shot. Alanna preferred guns, honestly. It seemed a bit more civilized than bashing something to death. She moved forward slowly. The door had a hole in the glass large enough for her hand to fit through- hell, the hole was large enough that she could probably fit through, if she wasn't afraid of getting cut up. Which, if she couldn't open the door, she'd try to widen it and climb through anyway. Luckily, the door opened with a turn of the handle. Alanna entered the building, her revolver in her hand, and glass crunching underfoot. She was not looking forward to digging the glass out of the soles of her boots, but c'est la vive. She did a quick sweep of the first room, not seeing anyone there, or any water. In the second room, however, she found a woman in a dingy old nurse's uniform, looking over some piece of paper. Alanna snorted. "Jeez. You hit every branch on the way down when you fell out of the ugly tree, didn't you?" |

He smelled her before he saw her, listened to her noisily move around in the other room before stumbling on chubby legs to peek around the corner. Human, he noticed, humans were not very playful. Last time he saw a human, it wasn't moving and wouldn't play. It smelled bad and he had moved on, left the the unmoving human to the flying things. The flying things played with the human, pecking little pieces from him before flying away. This human was fine though. It was moving around and maybe it would play with him. He was about to move away from the spot he'd dug out in a big pile of papers when a smaller human came in. It was grumpy and didn't seem to like the big human. They shared a bad, bad look at each other. He tilted his head and slowly approached, trundling with an unsteady wobble. The bigger human seemed happier, it might be more willing to play. He stood up on his hind legs, put his front paws on the big human's leg and whined a bit. |

(OOC:I was hoping to join this with Mark Kozlov, much more appropriate, but time makes fools of us all. EDIT: My mistake Catterbrie, fixed.) The sight of the robots put him on edge, he had no idea how he had convinced himself to scavenge at a military base but the hallucinations had been a large part. Or the lack of them. The vivid brightness that had nearly completely blinded him had faded and he had decided to make use of the time before they inevitably returned. These robots were recently damaged, the smoke was still rising from broken electronics, and that meant that whoever did it wasn't far off. The door was already open and small shards of glass lay fanned inwards from the doorway. He walked through careful not to disturb the glass and slowly pulled his hatchet from his belt. It's more useful than his rifle in close quarters and made much less noise. The first room held nothing of use but when he reached the doorway he saw two women, one in a nurse uniform, the other was just a girl wearing... layers. The short blonde girl looked like she was ready to kill someone and had her revolver out, he put the hatchet away. No point in being shot. He attempted a friendly smile as he entered the room, no longer trying to be quiet, but the words to go with it froze in his throat when he heard a whine from the other side of the women. Was that a dog? |

Roach had been tracing the woman for a short while, she had led her to a magnificent old base, it was well worn but gaps in the fence had allowed her to squeeze her abdomen inside and then continue stalking the character into a small room. She was quite odd, she twirled around in a flowing skirt and was smiling, roach liked it when people smiled, perhaps a bit stupidly, she made her way out, automatically assuming the girl wasn't a threat. She brushed her dirty blond hair off her chubby cheeks and spoke in her finest tone, "Howdy girl? Who you?" Then she noticed the other woman, the man and the dog, instinctively, she grabbed her spear and took a step back, trying to hide from the group that had already spotted her... |

Moving past the small dune adorned with large boulders, George toyed around with his new rifle. He had spotted a large complex of buildings to his North a while back and decided to investigate. Time, he thought, was a funny thing. How time changed people and how he himself had changed over the past 48 hours. From an arrogant, tempered, greedy man, he had changed. The addiction was fading and he felt anew. He could think clearly with no urge to get a fix. It had been a good week. George looked at his clothes. His sun baked jacket with the same texture as stale beef jerky and his once white shirt now brown and dirty. He roared for a shower, or at least a drink. George had been walking for half a day and his water bottle was empty, he desperately needed a refill by sundown. George reached the back fence of the ruined facility to find large strips of concrete and a tall building idling behind the barbed wire. George looked for a way in to find a small pocket opening in the fence. He flipped open his switchblade and widened the gap. As he stepped through, he noticed that he was most likely in the back lot and that he was alone, and very exposed. George fed three rounds into his rifle and began walking towards the building... |

Gently folding the worn paper up, slowly to prevent it from tearing more then to not appear threatening. Out of nowhere her quiet little domain had been invaded by a whole pack of people apparently acting independent of each other. Wonderful, Jennifer sighed, nothing could ever be simple. If it looked like a base was empty surely there were a dozen humans or maybe a pack of Yaoi Gaoi hiding somewhere. Did Yaoi Gaoi travel in groups? Come to think of it she'd only ever seen them solo. Hm. That'd be less of a problem then this. There were too many, and that whining bitch in front of her had a pistol. Normally that wouldn't have been an issue, Jennifer found guns more trouble then they were worth in the Wastes but she was more then ready to come at a shootist swinging. If her bat wasn't behind her. Instead she'd have to... talk. First to deal with dog. Rather, a puppy, black and fluffy with his paws up on her bare legs. It's claws dug in a little but not nearly enough to be painful. Jennifer liked dogs, they were more then satisfied to simply sit there and look at you or lay beside you in exchange for some rubs and a snack. Tousling it's ears gently she shushed it gently, crouching Jennifer rubbed it's back. Certainly was an adorable little fellow, not much to be lost position wise so why not avail herself of the puppy's company. Less annoying then the others, that was for sure. The second person to enter, the man with the stupid grin, had enough sense to put his hatchet away. Not a threat, he could be dealt with later. The woman with the spear didn't appear to be a danger to her despite possessing a weapon she'd approached her openly enough. Possible advantage, if she could be somehow persuaded to aide her. For now Jennifer settled for simply raising an eyebrow at her before turning back to the irritating blond with the gun. "Mo' of a car windshield then a tree," Jennifer's expression had flattened into her typical 'dealing with people' expression. Totally blank, devoid of expression other then her native drawl she didn't let her agitation show. Not that her appearance was all that important to her, but it still wasn't very nice for someone of such status to bring up her face. She tucked the map into one of her pockets straightened up, and sauntered closer to the other girl, "You want somethin' or are you just here to botha me? I have research to do." |

There were more people now, and Alanna wasn't sure which one to be aiming at. Well, the woman who now had the puppy was too close for Alanna's comfort, but she was also weaponless. The man had a hatchet, but put it away. That left the skinny woman with the spear. Alanna shifted so that her revolver was aimed at the spear-holding woman. She answered the puppy-woman with a smirk. "I don't think I'm the only one disturbing your research now, sugar-pie." Alanna was very emphatically not happy with all these people being here. She just wanted some water, and now there were people she had to deal with. She didn't like people, and the feeling tended to be mutual. It wasn't that she was afraid of them. She just plain didn't like them. And her tongue got her in all kinds of trouble with them. |
