Name: Otriad Size: Small Village Area: five huts surrounded by an expanse of farm land, all is enclosed by a simple wooden fence. The main bank is set out on a dirt road and a well can be found in the centre of the huts Population: 19 Info: Not 60 miles from Bucket-Town, on the outskirts of the Austin Capitol Ruins, is Otriad, a small farming village inhabited by a number of cautious folk keen to interact with outsiders and trade with outlying settlements. What is interesting about Otriad is that it is home to the Otriad Monetary Outpost, a small brick building coated in peeling plaster and fortified with sandbags. The windows are barred and the entrance has thick metal shutters that can be pulled down, some believe that this was once a village jail cell. Inside, the building is divided into three parts, a small store selling various consumables, a living space, found upstairs, and a bank. The store area is little more than a wooden table with a till stood on it. A wind up radio stands watch on one corner and behind the counter is a large shelf and a malfunctioning fridge. All sorts of mutated cabbage, lettuce and corncobs are neatly lined up while inside the fridge are scavenged nuka-cola bottles, warm beers and bottles of relatively unradiated, clean water. The upstairs is a tiny room filled with a bed, a cracked mirror and a small chest of draws containing various items of pre-war business clothing. the bank area is the most interesting of all perhaps. A jail cell like fixture has been converted and behind the barred door are three vaults, the thick metal boxes are filled with stashes of money and items of worth. Of course, Mr. Edward Shanks, the proprietor of the OMO has employed some twelve mercenaries to defend not only the bank, but the whole settlement. The farmers pay Shanks for protection, he pays the merc, everyone is happy. Note that it takes about 20 hours to walk to Otriad at a leisurely pace from Bucket-Town. ____________________________________________________________________ Look here for conversion rates, items of stock and important updates on Otriad. A nice smell distinctly different from the brahmin wafting over off the farms and you become at ease. Inside an old fridge hums and a man sits reading a news pamphlet from Austin. He wears a bowler hat and a dirty pinstripe suit. He nods to you and you spy a few armoured mercenaries eyeing you warily. The man shuffles forward and ceases to lean on the back legs of his chair. "Can I help you please?" |

((OOC: I actually checked the dates and times, it would a marathon runner 8 hours to run 60 miles, a normal person could make it at a leisurely pace in 12 hours. I also made sure that the route was from Austin to a Bucket-Town modern alternative so geographical terrain was not compromised.)) |

Does that take into accout sleep, dehydration, hunger? A trip of that distance could not be completed in one go. Heat and fatigue would play a major part for any person let alone a 'normal' person. A normal person walks on average 3mph when say hicking, so thats 30miles in 10 hours. To reach here it would take on average 20hours of walking time. |

Sorry but seriously people, stop commenting on the distance and time it takes to walk, it doesn't matter hugely anyway, please just don't respond to this unless you are buying or trading. Fix'd |

If you fix the part that we're getting so riled up about, then we'll leave you alone. It's really quite simple. By getting angry, you're just making us more adamant that you change it, and it doesn't help your cause any. |

After seeking rumors for more local suppliers Abraham seized upon the story of a community known as the Otriad Monetary Outpost. They had been walking about two days now and had encountered a reoccurring annoyance of wild dogs in the area that he assumed had been following the two. The first day was probably the worst since the two apparently passed through a region the dogs and mole rats had been feuding over for some time, however thankfully they were able to quickly slink away while the two packs were busy fighting each other for territory. The second day had similar animal issues but certainly not the same as Abraham was woke from his sleep by a distant and distressed moo'ing and a loud series of barks. They ran a ways to find an overlook with a recessed path about twenty feet below running down it like a natural path that stopped in a sudden dead end. At the bottom was a very distressed looking Brahmin that had been corned by three wild dogs. Two were fighting between themselves to follow in after the dog in front that was slowly pressing inwards towards the cornered animal. Abraham quickly took a knee above the creature and began lining up a shot with his junk flinger immediately. His presence was a surprise that gave the dog enough pause for him to take advantage of as it began to growl and prepare to spring forward in his direction. The other two dogs looked over curiously as they heard the twang of the junk flinger and the sudden yip and thud from their leader as a bolt caused it to fall back into the wall with a thud. Abraham was disheartened that the shot was not as clean as he liked it, he did not enjoy making animals suffer even if they were trying to eat him sometimes. The two dogs barked angrily and began running down the path side by side at this point. "IS4C! Protect the Cow, plug that path!" Abraham orders as he prepares to reload his next bit of ammo. "YES SIR~ YEE-Haw!" IS4C adds his exhaust flaring as he floats off the ledge and slope with a thumping bounce as he reaches the bottom and rushes in the direction of the dogs. The dogs and the robot continued heading towards each other as if they were about to clash until the robot began springing out various tools and oddities from its body as he attached them to the stalk appendages and began to wield and waved them about in a threatening and confusing manner as it clicked on its radio and turned it to maximum volume and began blasting screeching and shifting static and white noise. The face the dogs made was priceless as they scurried and crashed into each other trying to turn around and then fled the approaching unknown creature threatening them with kitchen utensils as they fled with their tails between their legs. "Good work Issac." Abraham adds sliding down the embankment in front of the distressed brahmin as it began to pace and turn and moo uncertain about the stranger. "Hey, hey… It's ok, it's ok." He adds holstering the weapon as he adjusts his body language in an attempt to calm the creature. "Now then, for you. Come along." IS4C adds after hovering over to the injured animal as it picks it up by the neck after it returns a spatula to its proper slot as it drags the animal out of the boxed in area. The dog struggles and nips a bit at the air but is unable to resist the robot hauling it out of sight to the front of the path so that it can keep an eye out for those other dogs and put the animal out of its misery out of its masters sight. "Easy girl, easy." Abraham adds digging into his one of his many pant pockets as he pulls out a corn cob. "You want a snack, eh? Delicious corn cob." He adds cautiously approaching the Brahmin with the cob who shifts its heads curiously and sniffs giving a more complacent moo as it begins to calm down and takes a slow series of steps closer to the man as it sniffs the corn cob before reluctantly reaching over to grab it with one of its heads and holds it in place as the other begins eating from the other end. Abraham smiled a bit and slowly pets the Brahmin along the head as he walks around the body. The Brahmin momentarily shakes its head but otherwise does not seems to mind as it continues eating the corn Cobb until it munches the last half with the head that was originally holding it and begins to stand around chewing it. "Hmm..." He adds noticing a mark on the creatures backside. It was a large M over a small o within a large circle. "A brand eh? Looks like you're owned, wait... Oh Ehm oh... Otriad Monetary outpost!" He exclaims excitedly as the Brahmin moo'd uncertainly. "Wooah easy girl, sorry didn't mean to startle you. Ok come on, follow me and we'll get you home." He adds taking out another corn cobb as he begins to lure the Brahmin out and down the path behind him. "Where is that robot?" He adds pausing as they come out of the pathway. "Over here sir, just finishing up a bit of business." IS4C adds as he gives a little puff of smoke on occasion out the top as his internal mechanisms were clanking and clunking already hard at work processing the dog into meat, bone and other materials. "Good, alright bring up the rear and lets get moving. This place cant be far now." He adds as they continue the last leg of their journey with a Brahmin in tow until they see the fields and the fenced in area beyond. "There we are." "You there have you seen a~ Bertha there you are! You had me worried." A farm hand adds as he approaches and greets the Brahmin affectionately to a warm 'moo' after turning around to see who was coming. "She's safe now, had to rescue her from a pack of wild dogs but she seems otherwise unharmed. Glad we found her owner." Abraham replies in a friendly tone. "So am I!" the man laughs. "So what brings you to Otriad?" He inquires curiously. "Ah so this is Otriad, it's my first time here. Figured I might do some trading, I deal in food and drink mostly so im looking for suppliers for my Bucket town stall. My names Abraham and this is my partner Issac." He adds gesturing to the robot behind them. "Hello there." IS4C adds hovering in a little closer. "Wooo-wee, if that aint a sight. Names Horus Humphrey, I help tend the fields. You'll have to head in to town if you want to talk terms like that. Give me a minute and I'll show you in, I might be able to convince them to give you something for bring us back big Bertha here. Now come along you troublemaker." He adds leading the cow off with a complacent moo. |

Humphrey hustles back to say. "Sorry 'bout that, boss man told me to get back to my work and leave you to your business. Just head on up the path that a ways, you cant miss the trading post. Thanks again for the help." He adds before quickly returning to his field work. "Happy to help." He adds with a wave of his hand pondering if that meant they didn't intend to pay him for saving a head of their cattle. The thought of having kept the Brahmin and butchered it for meat and hide pestered him mildly on the way up the path but with little actual effect. Even the wasteland couldn't kill off the good in all men thankfully. "Wait here Issac, I shouldn't be gone long." He adds before stopping in mid turn as the robot says. "You may want this then." IS4C adds as his cover pops open and a folded dog hide is extended to him with a manipulator arm. "Thanks Issac~" Abraham pauses as he reaches for it as he notices a couple of odd protrusions on the manipulator appendage. Apparently a couple of the dogs teeth had gotten lodged in the scrap frame so Abraham pulled them out. He examined the dings left to make sure they didn't pierce and thankfully there didn't seem to be any line crimps or other effects so he pocketed the teeth and the hide as he heads into the building. Inside an old fridge hums and a man sits reading a news pamphlet from Austin. He wears a bowler hat and a dirty pinstripe suit. He nods to you and you spy a few armored mercenaries eyeing you warily. The man shuffles forward and ceases to lean on the back legs of his chair. "Can I help you please?" "I sure hope so. Names Abraham, Abraham Marshall. Pleased to meet you." He adds extending his hand to the man in the suite. "Im a traveling trader and I primarily deal in food and drink. Im visiting nearby settlements around bucket town to try and find various steady suppliers for things like meat, produce, maybe dairy so i've got more to offer as well as bottles and cans so that I have something to store them in for the long term if I cant move it while it's freshest." He pauses as he pats his chest pocket and takes out a small piece of paper. "Here's a service flyer with my rates if you're interested." He adds politely uncertain of whether or not he could push his trade or not while he was here before continuing on to ask. (see wasteland classifieds for details. http://z3.invisionfree.com/The_wastes/inde...showtopic=1134) "Would you be the one I would need to talk to about monthly or bi-weekly pickups of supplies as well as payment or trade for said supplies?" He inquires curiously. |
