Sometimes, Corrotto can be a bit eccentric. It doesn't help much for his case that very few of the people he employs have actually seen him, or even heard his voice. Sending paid mercenaries on missions to find attractive women doesn't help much either. |

Orion was now outside of town, fairly far actually. He was standing on top of a dune, surveying the area around him. He could just barely make out the three pillars in the distance. He turned around to face Eli and the ghoul who were almost at the top of the dune as well. He also saw the Roy, in all his hulking mass, struggling at the bottom of the dune, trying to keep his balance as he slipped and slided. "Hey Roy, you might just want to go around!" Orion shouted down to him. Roy's only response was some indistinguishable grunt, but he still started to walk around the bottom of the dune. By that time the pair had made it to the top of the dune. orion turned to them. "Do see those formations out that way?" He asked as he pointed toward the three objects. He assumed they would be able to see them better than he could. Not a day went by that he cursed his radiation poisioning. "That's where we need to go to start our search." |

Eli made minor smallchat with the ghoul. It was odd, how things seemed to work out like that. No matter how hard he tried to distance himself from other people, they kept showing up. It wasn't a bad thing, he just didn't want to burn anyone. It would just be one more issue to deal with, and he wasn't ready for that just yet. As the four men started to head up the crest for the dune, Eli spoke a little louder. "Alright, you guys. What the fuck are we supposed to be doing here? I know you think you're real funny with this whole 'Encourage Fornification' thing, and it WAS funny. But now I'm serious. Why are we going even MORE out into the ass end of nowhere?" "Do see those formations out that way?" "That's where we need to go to start our search." Eli stood at the crest of the dune, and focused at nothing in paticular. It didn't take long for him to pick out what Orion was talking about. It payed to have good eyes. "Yeah, I see it. But why the hell do we want to go there?" |

The foursome traveled far before reaching the dune. Eli and Hagan talked betwwen each other. It was odd that just a few days ago they were ready to kill each other, but now they were talking like the best of buds. Okay maybe not best of buds but Eli was at least someone Hagan might think twice about shooting. The man in black and Roy walked in silence until they crested a dune. The man squinted and said "Do see those formations out that way? That's where we need to start our search." Hagn saw them, barely. Nothing more than three small dots on the landscape. Eli was clearly annoyed and Roy was clearly stupid as fuck, but the man in black still seemed confident in his directions. Hagan wasn't one hundred percent the man knew where he was going. Get this far away from Bucket Town and bad things start to happen. Nevertheless, Hagan surpressed the foreboding feeling that was gathering in his stomach and followed the others. |

"Yeah, I see it. But why the hell do we want to go there?" Eli asked as Hagan strained his eyes to see the formations across the wastes. "Well, we want to go there because that's where I saw a woman not to long ago. Now if you would prefer to spin around and pick a random direction away from town to start looking for women the by all means. However, if you'd like to search in a direction that actually has a better chance of us actually finding women as a group, then I suggest you follow me." Orion stated to Eli. Orion turned around and saw that Roy was just starting to come around to the bottom of the dune. He jumped onto the angled side of the front of the dune and slide down to the bottom. "Hurry up Roy, we have a woman to find," he turned to face the top of the dune and asked "you guys comin'?" ((Sorry for not posting sooner, completely forgot.)) |

"So we're actually serious about finding women? If you guys are fucking with me, I'm not gonna be happy. Let's hunt down this bird then. If we find her, I think I know a guy that might... um... sell us, a dame or two, if you guys don't have any objections." Eli cringed a little. He never liked to reveal that he'd once worked in that business. If he was lucky, nobody would ask how he knew a slaver. If he was extremely lucky, nobody would care that he knew that kind of person. Eli didn't know about whoever the nameless drifter was loooking to find, and he didn't care to think of what Corrotto would have her doing. At least with a slave, he knew their life would likely get easier. The nameless man drifted down the dune on the shifting sands, effortlessly sliding down them. Eli followed suit, except he had a bit more trouble with the effortlessly part. "They might cost a bit though, specially way out here." "Hurry up Roy, we have a woman to find, you guys comin'?" When he tapped down at the bottom, Eli walked in the direction the the nameless man had pointed out. "I guess if we don't got the money, we could try to pick some out of a raider or tribal group, too." |

The man in black was the first to go sliding quickly down the steep dune. Eli followed him and stumbled a little, Hagan hoped that he would fall or Roy or anything to break-up this cloud of bad feelings hanging above his head. He wondered if the other men felt it. Eli was sharp and he could probably sense it, but Roy and the strange man seemed oblivious, or maybe they were just good at hiding it. Eli finally spoke with what seemed like a touch of nervousness in his voice. "So we're actually serious about finding women? If you guys are fucking with me, I'm not gonna be happy. Let's hunt down this bird then. If we find her, I think I know a guy that might... um... sell us, a dame or two, if you guys don't have any objections. They might cost a bit though, specially way out here." Hagan shot Eli a dirty look though he probably didn’t see it. If Eli meant a slaver would sell them women, there was going to be problem. He thought back briefly to Lakota and the slaver camp, then choked back the memories, bottling them up into the left of his stomach. Hagan had met too many slavers in his life to trust them and he’d be damned if he was going to “purchase some merchandise” and keep them in business, He’d wait, wouldn’t speak up until they actually began to barter for the women. Hagan wasn’t sure what he would do then, but he sure as hell wouldn’t sit back twiddling his thumbs. He ignored Eli for now and carefully followed Roy down. They now stood at the bottom and as far as Hagan could tell the landmarks were gone. Eli and the others seemed to know where to go, so he didn’t worry about it. Hagan marched along with others, and Eli said something else. "I guess if we don't got the money, we could try to pick some out of a raider or tribal group, too." Hagan took the shotgun from the holster on his back and quietly checked the chamber. One shell. He closed the action and briefly admired the new shine to it. It was a little prettier now but still as deadly as Hagan remembered it. He didn’t want to get into a fight with these three. Hagan judged the other men carefully, Eli was just as fast as he was if not faster, Roy didn’t seem to have a gun but he could take a solid shot to chest and keep coming before Hagan had a chance to reload, and the man in black didn’t seem like anything to scoff at either. Careful to stay at the back of the four man train he readied himself. If he got into a gun fight with these three he’d die for sure, but better to die fighting than watch those three drag a raider or tribal away to a miserable life of prostitution. They may not be friendly folk but no woman deserves that. “Dear God in heaven, what am I doing?” Hagan thought to himself, the farther he went with this the more it knotted him up inside. He had assumed that the women would be well paid and well fed in exchange for their “service” but now it seemed like he was helping to set up a rape-house. Hagan then realized that he’d never even met Corotto, he’d just answered an ad. It hung on the outside of Bobo’s affixed to the sheet metal with a single rusty nail. He remembered what it had said, clear as crystal. “Strong, experienced men wanted for assistance. Big reward. Job may require travel, barter and firearms skill. Be at Corottos Manor tomorrow at 3 pm sharp for mission briefing." Realizing how vague it was, he decided to learn a bit more about this Corotto fella. Speaking in loud voice so the man in black -who traveled much farther ahead of him- could hear as well, he asked. “Have any of you seen Corotto? Is he a stand-up fellow? ’Cause I’m starting to get a bad feeling about this.” |

"So we're actually serious about finding women? If you guys are fucking with me, I'm not gonna be happy. Let's hunt down this bird then. If we find her, I think I know a guy that might... um... sell us, a dame or two, if you guys don't have any objections." Eli said. Orion knew what he was saying, slaves. From slavers. While wandering the wastes looking for women that may or may not exsist was dangerous in itself, trying to buy someone off a slaver was even worse. You were just as likely to get captured yourself as you were to buy a slave. He wasn't going to ask how Eli knew a slaver, he had a pretty good idea how. Of course, Orion was even more unsettled by that ghoul. He knew nothing about him other than the fact that he knew Eli. He also seemed especially shifty and overly-cautious. That could be bad. He noticed that the ghoul teneded to hang a little ways back for the rest of the group. "That shotgun could do some damage to us all if he shot like that." He said in a mental note. Orion then turned to face Eli, "We are not going to do any buisness with slavers Eli, that is a bad idea. Now I would prefer if you didn't mention it again." He paused and turned away, "Now come on." As he walked in the general direction of the formations he thought to himself "It would be unfortunate if I had to kill one or both of them, that could cause a problem." He thought about it for a moment and then decided that it would be better to think about something else. He returned to the thought of his own thoughts. He still wondered why he felt like there was a fog over part of his memory, like he was missing something important. He felt as though there was a hole inside him, no, not a hole... a void. This feeling had only surfaced recently, as had the hallucinations. What could it mean? Orion could only ask himself one question: "Am I going Insane?" ((We're good.)) |

As soon as he'd said it, he knew that he shouldn't have. For a second, he considered trying to cover it up with a lie, but it wasn't the right time. He would seem even worse then he'd already made himself look. Everyone out here seemed so conservative about slavery, Eli was, too, but it just seemed like it would be the best solution to their problems at the moment. It didn't matter how Corrotto treated them, they'd likely be far better of then they would in the hands of most wastelanders. The nameless man in the duster suddenly turned a little forcefully, and spoke with resolve. "We are not going to do any buisness with slavers Eli, that is a bad idea. Now I would prefer if you didn't mention it again." He turned away, and continued walking. "Now come on." Eli waited for a few steps before following behind him. He wanted to hold his tongue, but his anger got the better of him. "I don't care who you think you are, no name. You don't talk to me that way." He let it go. It wwasn't a good idea to get in fights with anybody. They where usually lightning quick, and ended with one man dead. He wasn't totally sure, but he had a feeling that Orion was higher in the heirarchy then Eli was. He fell back to Hagan's position and sighed. "Well, not many people know Corrotto, at least not directly, but he's a real good guy. He knows how to use his power, and he doesn't mess around like the other two idiots. Besides, I'm too invested in him at this point to say anything different." |

The four continued along at a steady pace. Sand and dirt was starting to fill Hagan’s left boot and he was frustrated that they were already so worn. He’d have to duct-tape it later or maybe gum or something. Hagan pondered on how to solve his discomfort when Eli’s loud words burst through his ears. "I don't care who you think you are, no name. You don't talk to me that way." He said angrily through gritted teeth, pointing a long finger at the strange man. Hagan wasn’t sure what the man in black had said to Eli, but it obviously didn’t strike the right chord. Eli turned from the man and walked fast toward Hagan. Hagan thought that maybe they had finally turned against him. His paranoid side called to him in a tiny voice “He’s coming to shoot you. They think you’re a zombie. Lead you to the desert where no one will see. They’ll torture you first and leave you for the “Guai”. “No. Shut up.” Hagan thought to himself as Eli fell into step beside him. Hagan was still a little upset with Eli but there was no way he could have known about Hagan’s past with slavers. Maybe, it was just a suggestion he’d made. He probably didn’t mean any harm by it. Or maybe Hagan was still too trusting. “"Well, not many people know Corrotto, at least not directly, but he's a real good guy. He knows how to use his power, and he doesn't mess around like the other two idiots. Besides, I'm too invested in him at this point to say anything different." Eli said with his eyes still focused forward. That wasn’t good. Eli had basically told Hagan what he wanted to know. That Corrotto had the money to pay these women and was good natured enough to treat them with respect, but that last sentence made him nervous. “Too invested to say anything different” could mean that Eli had been paid to spread a good word about Corrotto around town for the sake of the election. Hagan would have to wait ‘till they found the women the man in black was talking about, before deciding about Eli. The way he figured it, if Roy seemed to want to protect her and treat her like some precious cargo, then she’d be well taken care of and he could relax a little. The sun was brighter now and Hagan used his hand to shade his eyes. He could see what seemed to be the tops of the formations coming up from the other side of the hill. Ignoring his combined feeling of excitement and distress he asked Eli a question. “Have you ever met him, Eli? You said you were invested in him. Surely you’d wouldn’t invest in someone you’ve never met personally.” |

As Orion was walking along, he began to think about Eli's outburst, its not like Eli's outburst was unpredictable, but still it caught Orion off guard, and for whatever reason, he definately didn't like the way he was being talked to. He examined his crossbow to make sure that it was loaded and would fire properly, he thought about just turning around and shooting Eli in the heart. Even at this range he and his bad eyesight couldn't miss. The idea was looking more and more promising, he could feel a certain part of him beginning to take over, but suddenly something stopped him, "Don't, don't do it." a faint, ghostly voice said. Orion calmly looked around as to not arouse suspicion in his companions. He did not see anything that would likely have said that. He wondered where the voice had come from, why he had heard it, if someone else had heard it, who had said it, and why he felt compelled to follow the voices command. Orion lowered his crossbow and pushed the thought of Eli aside and resumed his previous thoughts on why he had begun to hear voices and see things that weren't there. Its not like it happened at regular intervals, they were random... or were they? It seemed like they were beginning to happen when he did certain things, or when certain things happened. Maybe he really was going insane, maybe none of this was real, maybe he was dead, or maybe he had never existed at all. Suddenly everything he had held dear to him was in question, he was beginning to question anything and everything. "Don't worry." the voice suddenly said again. Ok, now Orion was sure of it, he was either crazy or dead. Still... he once more felt as though he had to obey the voice, but not in the same way as before. This time it was more of a soothing emotion, like a mother telling her child that everything would be alright when it first experienced a thunderstorm... not that that every happened that often anymore. Regardless he did feel a little calmer now, but he was now left with even more questions than answers, like how did the voice know what he was thinking. |

Eli tried to walk in step with Hagan, but quickly realized his longer strides would make him edge farther and farther ahead. Eli knew it was important to keep eye contact when talking to someone, even a ghoul. He couldn't quite place why, but just seeing their expressions seemed to change the meaning of everything. Maybe he felt so much hostility toward the nameless man because it felt like he just couldn't read him. “Have you ever met him, Eli? You said you were invested in him. Surely you’d wouldn’t invest in someone you’ve never met personally.” Eli smiled at the thought. It was a funny one, to him at least. "I've never seen the man myself. Actually, I've never even heard his voice. Nor have I ever had him described to me in any way. The way it's been, or at least after I've came into the picture, is the simple fact that you don't ask about Corrotto. Ever. And you don't ask why. Ever. You just do what he wants you to do, and you get paid. You get paid a lot. That's more then good enough to me. If anything, it puts a wall between me ans him, and keeps us both safer." It was a difficult concept to explain. "I know Roy. I trust Roy. He's a little thick at times, but I like Roy. Roy is Corroto's right-hand man. That's good enough for me." The group got closer and closer to their destination. Eli felt at ease again, enough to speak out to the nameless man. "We're almost there now, so I'm gonna go ahead and ask. What exactly are we planning to do? And it's only one girl, right? Wouldn't we need a lot... more then that?" |

Hagan walked next to Eli and listened to his response. “"I've never seen the man myself. If anything, it puts a wall between me and him, and keeps us both safer.”, Eli seemed to turn this over in his head, trying to find a better way to explain it. Hagan wasn’t sure if Eli was serious or not. He’d had met people like Corrotto before, sometimes they were on the run from something and sometimes they just liked their privacy. Either way he decided not to press the issue, because if all of Corrotto’s soldier were as big as Roy, Hagan would end up dead as a door-nail. Eli gave another more simple answer. “"I know Roy. I trust Roy. He's a little thick at times, but I like Roy. Roy is Corroto's right-hand man. That's good enough for me." Thick was right, but Hagan knew what Eli was saying. You can’t always judge a man by the company he keeps, but Roy seemed like good people. Hagan’s stomach was starting to settle and his dark cloud was slowly floating away, these three he was traveling with seemed nice enough. At least none of them showed any outward hatred towards Hagan for being a ghoul, but he’d only briefly talked to the man in black and he’d only made jokes at Roy. Eli started walking ahead ahead of Hagan and he spoke up to the strange man. "We're almost there now, so I'm gonna go ahead and ask. What exactly are we planning to do? And it's only one girl, right? Wouldn't we need a lot... more then that?" Hagan hated to agree but Eli was right. One girl wasn’t going to be enough. Hell, they weren’t even sure this woman was still there. Hagan paused for just a second while the other three kept walking. He took his flask from his jacket pocket and drained it in a few big gulps. The liquor burned his throat and stirred his head but he was still sober enough to catch up to the others. He remembered a few women from his prewar days. “God they were pretty back then.” He thought. Nowadays, women were so disheveled and filthy. He remembered way back when a shower and nice hair were the most important parts of a woman’s routine. Now they were only concerned with gathering food and not getting eaten. “Hey.” He called ahead to strange man. “Eli is right. We’re almost to the area and we haven’t even discussed how to get the women back to town. What if she’s hurt or doesn’t want to come with us? After all, if you were a woman would you just blindly follow four men through the wastes? I sure as hell wouldn’t.” |

Orion continued to lead the group towards the still somewhat distant, but close, formations. He had mostly still been pondering to himself about the voices. However, he was pulled away from his thoughts by Eli, who had been, up until this moment, talking quietly with the ghoul. Orion wasn't exactly sure what it was about, he thought he may have heard the mention of Corroto a time or two, which was in itself a risky move considering they had Roy with them; Corroto's right hand man. "We're almost there now, so I'm gonna go ahead and ask. What exactly are we planning to do? And it's only one girl, right? Wouldn't we need a lot... more then that?" was what Orion heard Eli ask. While it was a fair question, it was also a stupid one. Then, before he even had time to come up with a response, the ghoul chimed in "Hey. Eli is right. We’re almost to the area and we haven’t even discussed how to get the women back to town. What if she’s hurt or doesn’t want to come with us? After all, if you were a woman would you just blindly follow four men through the wastes? I sure as hell wouldn’t." Orion rolled his eyes and let out an audible sigh. He stopped and turned to face Eli and the ghoul. "First of all Eli, while it may only be one woman, one would think that even though it is only one woman, at least having an idea where one would be is better than just wandering aimlessly in the desert? Now as for your question..." he spoke to the ghoul, "... if I were a woman, I wouldn't be out here in the first place, but however since that's me and not this woman, I don't think that's an accurate assumption. Now let me ask you this, if you were a woman out here, you had no survival skills yourself, your only source of protection was killed recently, and your supplies were dwindling, would you follow four men who were saying that they would give you shelter, a jod, and food?" |

The nameless man let out a sigh and rolled his eyes as he explained himself. "First of all Eli, while it may only be one woman, one would think that even though it is only one woman, at least having an idea where one would be is better than just wandering aimlessly in the desert? Now as for your question..." Eli let out a sigh of his own. Obviouslly, if they wh ere going to do this, they where going to do it the way the nameless man wanted to do it. He seemed smart enough, but he was also a pretentious asshole, In Eli's own humble opinion. There wasn't much you could do about those kind of people, except learn to deal with it. Doesn't wanna buy slaves, but doesn't want to go looking either. How are we going to get anything done if we can't work together? No-name finished his thought. It was a reasonable one, but not everyone in the wasteland was so logical. There wasn't even a garuntee that anyone would even be where No-name was leading them. Eli decided to keep his mouth shut for a moment. Blurting out wasn't going to help him. He rolled a couple of thoughts around in his head. "Why not go to the Elkites? I'm pretty sure they have a settlement a good bit east of here, and they're suppos'ta be friendly enough to other people. Yeah... yeah! We could run down there and give it a look-see. They're at war with some group of raiders last I heard! And they take prisoners, unlike some of the wilder tribes! I'm sure of it! There's got to be a woman or two who would be glad to come with us, if we could pay off the tribe first!" Eli decided it would basically end up being like slavery without the slaves. Trade off some of Corrotto's goodies to get some of the tribes captured women, and then see if they'll come with us to Bucket Town. Eli stopped short and glanced at the other two. "Looks like we're about here, No-name. Any ideas on where this girl should be, and what she'll look like?" |
