Ahh, the town of Bucket Town, or Copperton, to some. In reality, it's not much more then a small community built in an almost entirely cleared out section of old ruins. Well, it's questionable to even go so far as to call it a community, when, if anything, it's more of a stopping off point and hitching post for trappers, skinners, and hunters in the area. Located in what was once eastern Texas, it stands a few days travel from the great endless sands to the west, and more craggy barren lands to the east. A lot of Bucket Town's appeal is in it's rather lucky location. It's location between extremes lend it to have a nice variety of game around, from great mutated geckos to radroaches to wild dogs, with a lot of rarer critters in between. Because of this, the trading outpost is heavily based in the business of hunting and skinning game, selling excess hides and meat to the (mainly friendly) local tribes and the number of merchants and caravans who stop here on the way out to the wider wasteland or toward the more heavily populated interior. The art of hunting and trapping game is so ingrained in the local area, in fact, that the town has settled on a rough system of unfinished hides, skins, and furs as a basic currency. The town is a rather small one, with a meager population, although a good number of the locals only visit seasonally, or when not hunting, so it's difficult to make any real estimate. Mechanical equipment and anything over basic firearms are rather scarce in the area, but luckily, so are any large local operations that would seek to prey on it's residents. For now, at least. Relying mainly on meat and barter as sources of food, some meager efforts to grow crops have been attempted, but little has come out of it. Sadly, local political unrest seems to do little to help population growth, and with trade a major source of life, the future of the town seems unsure. Bucket Town, as a whole, is rather undefended, as has been proven by recent events. There is a partially constructed town wall and a lookout tower in the old church. Although elections where held, for the first time in history, the winner, a softspoken preacher, didn't last for long. His bans on chems, gambling, and prostitution stirred up opposers, and a violent revolution was staged from the outside. Now it's only government is run by a sort of council, composed of business leaders and other well-to-do members of town. Upon entering, you'll notice that a lot of the housing is non-permanent, including tents of many shapes and sizes. Walking down the main avenue, your likely to count off four or five tents fo every full time residence, although most of those are just simple shacks. Set up in a very roughly square shape, a wide dirt path leads towards the center of town, and out in multiple directions once you get there. While one might assume the three odd quadrants of town this creates are different, they are virtually the same. While it was once attempted, the town remains without walls, and the only water source within is a large hand opperated well. For the most part, it remains a sleepy little town trying to survive in the wastelands, and you'll likely only spot a few people mulling about during the day. Within earshot of the center of town, one of it's most recognizable landmarks, the Trapper's Trek Trading outpost stands. If you're a trapper or a scavanger, you'll likely be heading here a lot. It's the only place that has usable equipment to trade, although for a price. You can buy food, water, guns, even a room for a night, as long as you got hides to trade. Recently, it's been made even more recognizable as a center of town, with sturdy scrap fortifications added to it's weak walls. If your just coming into town, you'll likely also want to vist the towns local chem store, seeing as it's the only place where you may have a chance of buying medical supplies. While a clinic once existed, it's been burned to the ground, and the fate of the doctor is uncertain at best. After trying to treat any medical ills and restocking on supplies, you'll likely be out looking for some grub, or at least a place to drink and shoot the breeze. On the outskirts of town, you'll se that the settlement also holds a small resturant and local hangout, 'Bobo's Bar." although it's menu isn't very expansive, it's functional, and it's essentially the only place in town that offers those kinds of services. If you're looking for areas of interest near Bucket Town, you may want to keep an eye out for a small hunting Camp led by a ghoul by the name of Benny O'Boyle. It's rather small, but a good place to learn about the local economy of trapping and hunting. Other then that, a small abandoned area hollowed out in a sewer acess to the east serves as a lab for the brewing of chems and other odds and ends. To the north lies the abandoned ruins of what was once a settlement, unity bridge, although little remains but a few hangers-on and the bridge itself. Westward bound, you may find youself in the small mud-hut settlement of brick, which produces little more then it's namesake. Still not getting the basic layout of the town? Then perhaps you should take a look at this Town Map which may be of some help. (OOC: This is where your characters hang out, meet eachother, and interact with the town. If your looking to buy and sell, go to the topic 'Trapper's Trek Tading outpost' if you want to trade in hides for equipment. Likewise, medical treatment is in the Doc Nances thread. Repair and creation of weapons, along with other specialties, is handled by Finn. For now, the resturant is undistinct, so you may RP inside of it, although you still have to spend hides for food.) |

UPDATE: Recently, it has become difficult to tell where the wastes end and Bucket town begins. This is the fate of a town who's leader was overthrown. Doc Nances has burned to the ground, many have been killed or moved away, and for now, the future of town is uncertain. The dying breaths of many now radiate througout the expanse that is the wastes. |

Bucket Town is finally starting to return to it's former prosperity - for her part, Madame Rose has managed to make it a popular stopping place for the more 'frustrated' of travelers, and Ali Bin Ali has even managed to bring in travellers looking to enlist in the chem trade. Although they certainly aren't the type that Father Gerade would've liked to see about town, but they are fresh faces, and more then a handful have decided to stick around Bucket Town. Although no official counts have been taken, it's guessed the population has rebounded fully from the revolution, and maybe even moreso! |
