(((I know that Bjorn was supposed to be on the ship from Gnard with Shyla and Company...buuuuut i've decided to put him here. So sue me, he's mine, I will do with him what i will. Enjoy...)))The ship stopped, hands lifted her into the air and for a moment she was sure that she should scream because she was being thrown over the side of the ship. Water would lap her up and carry her down into its depths, drowning her. She opened her eyes and was about to fight when she felt herself weightless, falling. She opened her mouth to scream but never did, she found herself plucked out of the air by huge, sure hands and soon she was nestled against the chest of Bjorn Denloffson. She clung to him, eyes wide. She knew she was safe, but was he? "The water, Bjorn...the water..." There was a whisping of air she heard and suddenly she saw her sister plucked out of the air much like she had been. She nestled close to Rowan, putting her forehead against her twin's. "Don't look, he's wading us through to the sand." She could feel Rowan's terror catch her and together they both instinctively climbed up the tall giant man and sat on his shoulders. Water was all around them. Ryhane began to hyperventilate. Panic was setting in. Bjorn was wading through the deepest water she'd ever seen. He was up to his stomach, and sometimes he grew closer to his chest so that her toes dipped into it. She screamed and buried her face against her sister's, against the top of the tall man's head. She shuddered as he moved and it was only after a few minutes that she realized he was talking. She opened her blue and green eyes and slapped him soundly on the shoulder. "What is that you said, tall one?" Bjorn had been great comfort for she and her sister on the passage back to their home land, but it did not change the fact that she and Rowan hated water, and distrusted men. Of course, Bjorn was one of the better men they'd ever encountered and perhaps Rowan was in love with him...she had yet to find out. When she wanted her Ryhane's sisiter could be very hush hush about her feelings, but she'd seemed to take a shine to the tree of a man that carried them through the water. Ryhane, however, would always know him as Tall One, and never trust him fully. But...she had to admit that he had certain, sweet charm. "I said, that there before us, is your homeland, ladies." Ryhane looked up, surprised. For the first time it dawned on her that she was home, that before them was sand, warm sand. What also came to her was the memories of why she and her twin had left the barren world for Carthan. She shook her head like Gnard didn't matter to her and slapped Bjorn again. "Why were we not lowered down like ladies, you oaf!" She slapped him once again, the calm that she'd tried to practice on the ship snapping. "Why was I not woken up, explained the situation and slowly eased into the idea of getting into a smaller boat and being pushed ashore!" Bjorn shrugged, the two women being lifted as he did so. "I know, that's what I said, but it was decided that you two would have taken to long to cross what little water there is left. This way was faster. The Queen ordered it anyway, and I follow what orders that sweet lady gives me. Though, it did pain me, the subterfuge and all. Forgive me, Rowan." His tone annoyed her and she slapped him again. "Stupid tree. I should have been told." Bjorn grunted an 'I'm sorry' but Ryhane was sure she didn't hear conviction in it. She glanced at Rowan, who simply had a smile on her face. Her heart was racing, but Rowan seemed to be taking the situation just fine. Ryhane was about to slap Bjorn's head again but Rowan caught her hand. "No doubt the Queen is still angry for our "aduction" of the princess. This is, how do you say it, Bjorn?" "Karma." Bjorn said, with too much a laugh that resulted in another slap from Rowan's sister. "Karma," Rowan said, "We get as we give." Ryhane rolled her eyes and became breathless and Bjorn stumbled with his footing and both her sister and she experienced water up to their thighs. They both screamed like banshees, Rowan too, and they clung to Bjorn's neck. Bjorn Denloffson, who's head had gone under water, came up spitting water out of his mouth and laughing. "Sorry about that, lost my balance." Rowan quickly forgave him...Ryhane held a grudge. It took a while for them to cross the water on Bjorn's shoulders. There were a few times when he tripped and Ryhane thought for sure that she was going to be sucked under and killed. But he always resurfaced, but every time, he laughed. Soon she could see the small boats dropping from the ship with survivors and the Queen on board. They rowed passed Bjorn, and the Queen had a smug expression on her face as she said good morning to the twins, princess Ashling in her lap, waved. Ryhane waved back, a warmth in her heart radiating stronger with the glimpse of the child. She adored children. Soon they were raising higher and higher away from the water and soon enough, fell to his knees, causing the two women to scream, until the realized that he was lowering them onto sand. Ryhane gripped the warm ground in her fists and pressed her forehead into it, crying out in Gnardian about a long journey coming to its end. She sat up and took a deep breath. "We are home, sister." She said, hesitantly, "Now what?" She looked over to Rowan who had sand on her forehead much as Ryhane, herself did, and laughed. Then watched as Bjorn fell into the sand between them, sighing happily, from exhaustion. "Well, that wasn't so bad, now was it?" He said, teasingly. Ryhane gave him one more slap on the head. |

((Hope you don't mind if I post; if you do just lemme know)) As the survivors were docking and coming ashore, a lone girl stood amongst the hustle and bustle that surrounded her. While people were chaotic in their unloading of the passengers and of what cargo they had with him, nothing but peace surrounded her. She had hair of starlight, leathery wings of midnight, and gentle features. She looked almost stately, standing there on the dock and, at first glance, would have seemed calm but for the quick searching her eyes done. It was surprising how uncommon blond hair coloring was, thus every time he eyes captured a bit of blond she looked, her heart leaping, only to be disappointed. It wasn't him. The black orb of energy that floated beside her chirred silently. "Imizael! There you are; I thought I told you to stay with me at all times!" A dark skinned cat boy (man) ran to the girl's side. The tiger man looked at the girl when she didn't reply but for a small nod. "Imizael...Kazuya is alright." "Then why haven't I seen him yet?" she asked, still scanning the crowd. "Maybe he's busy? He is heavily involved with the Council after all; he could be somewhere organizing the students and taking a head count." Imizael looked at Tai for the first time since the older male arrived, eyebrow slightly raised. "Then why hasn't he found me? I'm a Council Student, right?" Tai mentally sighed; she was holding on tightly to the hope that Kazuya was going to come flying out the sky. It wasn't that Tai wasn't worried about his old friend and sometimes rival, however Imizael was about to crash hard and he knew it. "Because he knew that you're with me; you're in good hands! Now come on, you aren't going to be much help standing here all day..." Without a word Imizael and jumped into the air and, with a quick push of her wings, was flying off towards the beach, causing for a few people to duck in surprise. She had spotted a blond head and green eyes; she was certain that it was him. She ignored Tai's crying her name loudly, she ignored the people she almost hit, she ignored everything.... She landed on the beach and ran towards the twins and the giant. The the plain eye it would be a wonder how Imizael even confused on of the twins for her beloved teacher, however to the tired, scared, and desperate mind, anything was possible. "Mister Kazuya, Mister Kazuya, Mister Kaz--" she girl stopped suddenly, looking at the twins, a blush showing on her dark skin. "Oh...I'm sorry...I...I...." the girl bit her lip and suddenly the tears started to fall. She wiped at her tears, embarrassed and confused and suddenly tired. "I thought...I thought..." anything else that she was going to say was cut off by more sobs. |

The crossing had not been kind to her. For several days she was in her cabin, violently sick, so much so that Phedra began to worry about her and the baby. But numbness had set in and Shyla could only nod to what she was told. Nothing affected her. The fact that she was pregnant was an annoyance, a hindrance keeping her from finding Vance and saving Lasher. There were hours out of the day that she forgot, whether she'd slept or not she couldn't remember. She would sit and stare out across the ocean when Phedra demanded her to go up deck and take the air. She didn't know what she was supposed to do now. Everything had changed, everything had been lost. Weeks went by and slowly her body seemed to adjust to the ship, she'd never had an issue with sickness on the water before, but was reassured by the women aboard that it was due to her pregnancy. Shyla was standing close to the captain this day, watching him man the helm, looking out across the water and noting the other survivor ships next to hers. One ship was out front, it looked bright and sure. The Coral, captained by Kate Blackwing hadn't left the fleet. She had helped them fight off pirates, of all things, after their escape from Terra. Shyla's eyebrows wrinkled in sadness. Tears threatened to spill out of her eyes, but she took a deep breath and forced her backbone into the rigidity that was resolutely Kostroman. She was would not cry anymore. She'd had enough of tears. A warm, rough hand smoothed over her bare shoulders and she lifted her own to grasp the black cloak that was draped over them. Morgan Thomas was more diligent about her temperature than she was. She realized, once the cloak was nestled against her, that she'd been cold. She wondered with a smile how the Terran could always sense it. He looked at her, patience ever, over the brim of his purple sun glasses and gave her a wink. "Its in men's soul to know when his lady wants for anything." It brought a cheerful laugh bubbling up from her depths that lightened the faces of everyone around her. The So'jihn had been so sad, so depressed, and the crew and everyone else had all felt it. Morgan grew closer to her and pointed far off in the distance before them. "They say we are reaching Gnard. Perhaps we will it see it soon on the horizon." The captain nodded his head. "Aye, Cap'n Blackwing said we'd reach there by night fall. She's been to these shores, n'I trust her, woman or no. Right fine cap'n." Shyla looked at The Coral and then beyond it to the distant Ocean. She'd heard stories about Gnard. That it was warm and exotic. "This will be the farthest I've ever been from home." She said to Morgan, softly. He drew closer to her, so that she could feel the warmth of his chest against her back. "Mine too." He was the sort of man who wanted to stay with forever, his soft voice, bright eyes and comforting smile. He had an ancient air about him that felt like wisdom. Shyla was attached to him, emotionally. The King had told him to guard her and to her he was the last thing of Vance she had left, besides Phaedra and the children, but the two women were distant. It was as if there was an unspoken anger between them and too much loss making the cavern even more distant. They had previously shared a room, but now Phaedra had taken to another and the children had gone with her. Shyla closed her eyes in sadness but came back once again at the touch of Morgan's hand. "All things mend with time." It was cliched, but true. Shyla nodded and kept her eyes on the horizon. When the sun was sinking into its bed and the moon was just rising into the sky, Gnard came into view. Soon they would dock and their time in exile would begin. Shyla was not there to see Gnard for the first time in the moonlight, but was tossing fitfully in sleep in her cabin. Dark dreams had taken her, dreams that held the faces of men she'd lost and one that was unfamiliar, but evil, she knew it. He was tall, and his eyes had the look of time etched into them. Black hair hung down around him in waves and he reached out to her. She couldn't resist him, not with the stare he bore into her, then he arms were around her and he laughed and showed his fangs. Shyla woke to the touch of one of the Terran Princesses. This was the first time that Vlad visited her dreams, and she knew, that it would not be the last. |
