Kali'sher stood on a dune overlooking the sand covered road that moved to the west to Ramuthra the city in the sand. Unfortunately as the mid day sun beat down onto her and the forward element she was leading to Ramuthra, a scout had informed her of a contingent of Na'outra Clansmen moving from the south to cut them off, about one hundred apparently and there was ninety of them to fight back with. They had been stood here for close to an hour waiting for their opponents to reach them, Na'outra where one of the smaller clans ranged against them though they where well known for their leader, Kier Na'outra whom was one of the better generals in the sands, though none had a reputation quite like Kali did. Before long Kali could see men in the distance, the Na'outra without a doubt, they moved fast up the road in formation to face them though she would fight them with the rage that had made her so well known to be feared. The minutes passed but felt like hours, sweat beaded down her brow as she pulled forth her Maen'Kaarn and inspected the long double edged blade mounted on the end before she raised her right hand to the air and began moving down the dune, her men and women began to march behind her as each readied their spears for the coming battle. Some moments Kali stopped as her men stopped nbehind her some hundred meters off from their enemies and shock crossed Kalis face, before her stood Kier Na'outra and she slowly felt her heart sink. She couldnt beat him but she could hold fast to her reputation and with the strength of men she grasped her Maen'Kaarn and raised it high in the air with her left hand and called out "For Gnard!" It was then she charged forward. As the two lines closed she raised one of her smaller throwing spears in her right hand and just before they closed she cried out her war cry and then threw the spear with such force that it drove deep into the victims chest and threw him back. She did not slow as she grasped the spear and wrenched it out from the mans chest as she twirled suddenly on the spot striking out with her Maen'Kaarn in an arc around her to wound two men, one of them losing a leg, and killing another before she began to look for a likely target. In the opening moments of the battle, her forces had cleaved down the forward line of her enemies force and for every Rhiedre down, three Na'outra lay sprawled around them but this quick success was to leave them as the masterful tactician Kier suddenly brought to bare his secret tactic, he had kept a group of men back and sent them around the flanks and now they where fighting on three sides and where being overwhelmed. Kali snapped out of her thoughts and parried a wild attack from before her, she hadnt the time to bring her spear to bare so drew one of her knives quickly and drove it threw the womens throat before sheathing it and striking another man with her Maen'Kaarn. She was suddenly over come by a thought of disgust, Gnardian killing Gnardian, why could these fools not see their error and come to them. It had been a full minute and now she could see how her forces where dwindling though none would stand down though only twelve of them remained to triple the number in Na'outra, the battle had turned so suddenly and now they where surrounded fighting for dear life as the horn blew in the distance. To the west cresting the dunes, hundreds of Rhiedra called out and charged down to relive their leader, their chieftan Kali'sher, and now the battle would turn to a great victory.... |
