Appearance Eiella Darkeyes seems to of matured these last few years, now aged in her mid thirties, and about a quarter through her life as an aasimar, who are reckoned to live for one and a half to two centuries. Her physical maturation is nearly complete, and her hips have broadened slightly, as has her face lost the adolescent quality in its cherubic roundness and come into a longer, oval shape. It would be slightly amiss to say that Eiella has grown as much as her body has been shaped, currently frail, but taller and graceful.

However, a lot of the changes are diminished by the slow-wasting physical state that Eiella lives in. The psychological principles by which she governs extend to a physical toll upon her body – fasting, sleep deprivation and constant charity which pushes altruism to an extreme. It is uncommon for her to eat three full meals, even when she spends her day in physical laboring in the enclave, and she causes herself so much anxiety at night that she does not gain enough sleep. When she does rest, she does so with the help of alchemic and botanical compounds which counterbalance her normal metabolism in such a way the addiction cancels out the beneficial effects.

Though still slimmer in build than a regular human, Eiella had come into herself as a woman but is unsure, tentative and afraid. A glance will tell even the most undiscerning individual that a layer of padding on the bony frame of her will not only do wonders for her external appearance, currently painful, but also for the energy levels and thus the mood and demeanor of the individual. At this point, due to tenacity it is unlikely that Eiella has caused much irreversible damage to her body. However a second glance from those that remember her will also not the appearance of scars that were not there before – including the pained movements of approximately a dozen broken bones and six fractures in the last decade and half likely never set or cared for in a proper enough manner. It becomes, more obvious as time in her company is spent, that Eiella’s body is a conduit for a type of magic that it cannot completely contain without physical repercussions. The sudden increases in broken bones are the first definite sign of the consequences.

Her platinum hair has grown beyond what it once was, the longest tresses pulled into a loose braid to the small of her back. The front bangs are shorter, and form a wavy bob to frame the slimmer face. The actual facial features themselves are not much changed – no alterations to the endearing upturned button nose, the small pout and the curious, almond-shaped, intuitive eyes. On closer inspection, one will notice one important alteration to her right eye, not immediately noticeable. The right iris is no longer the lucid amber haze of the left but most definitely a shade gold, refractive and metallic, hidden under long, silvery lashes.

Though a sense of sadness clings to Eiella, following doggedly in her steps, she has definitely mellowed in her later years. Her demeanor is quieter and softer; her face more prone to settle into a look of a ‘listener’, and her gait is slower and more measured. The stubborn demand for request in her upward tossed chin has left, replaced by a more subtle cant in her head as she eyes her company. Where she used to hold her determination in her set jaw she now holds it in the unassuming but irrepressible edge in her gaze. Her confidence and unwillingness to take things lying down does not impress itself upon her compatriots anymore, but presents itself with quiet honesty that cannot be ignored.
Personality Eiella Darkeyes has suffered from events which had no chance of leaving her unchanged. Her actions, though forced, under the Shiranai have left scars that have never been allowed to heal. She struggles with the need to move on and heal, but the knowledge that she has not suffered in like to the people she tortured and killed, and thus inflicts her own purgatory for her actions, even though they were never complicit. Compassion and kindness drive her every being towards self-sacrifice and altruism, even at her own cost, to work for others is the only reason she seeks to live.

Though somewhat calmer than her youthful Council predecessor, Eiella Darkeyes still bears a lot of erraticism. Most of this is brought on from the medicinal compounds she takes to both sleep and forget whose prolonged has affected part of her memory differently. There are now some ‘blanks’ in Eiella’s memory, including the way home, though she had a definite grasp of faces. She knows and recognizes all the people she had known, though not always the events surrounding and relating to her acquaintances. At times the lapses in memory through her into a fury, and she becomes unable to control herself as she rages in frustration. She remembers the faces of every single person perished for her actions without them, that and the cheeky smile of Fire Captain Gawyn Natael, for which she interchanges from drawing strength to smile and weeping. How permanent the damages to her memory are is not known, though no reparation can be assured while Eiella still needs help to sleep and to forget her sins.

Yet, the most obvious thing about Eiella is that she the ongoing reality of her emotional pain. Her deep-rooted trauma impacts on everything she does, and her need for forgiveness is only exacerbated by her unwillingness to receive it. At first she believed when she had come to terms with her sins, and exonerated herself, that she might return her and pick up the pieces…but she has never felt pardoned and has since forgotten the way back home. She remains the perfect example of how people are the architects of their own prisons, often to their own expectations then the perceived expectations of others, and that self-made prisons are the hardest to be rid of. Eiella wears a split mood – between wanting to return to Kalimshere, the Council, to Gawyn even without memory of the way, and forcing herself to stay and face her sins.

For all her confidence, maturity and wisdom she faces the hardest truth of all – that the first step is the hardest, and that she has not the strength.
History Eiella Darkeyes history is fairly well known. Her father was never her biological father, and her peculiar race was due to a fling with a very charismatic half-celestial on her mother’s behalf. She was apprenticed to a local mage as a teenager and, after a magic accident, came into advanced and rare powers in the Necromancy discipline.

The rarity of her magic and her somewhat brave and pigheaded sense of ambition allowed Eiella to rise quickly through the Council ranks. Her young and innocent demeanor, though stubborn-willed, made her a good poster-child for the Council, though her age and flaws made her steward and never So’jihn. Not even with age, could Eiella Darkeyes ever be suited to such a rank. Though she blossomed in her role, she soon came into her first temptation from a man who was much more advanced in charisma and persuasion. Gawyn Natael, a captain of the sworn forever-hated guild, persisted against her most fervent denials. After a while, Eiella started paying more attention, suitors were rare and Gawyn was half-bad…quarter-bad…not bad at all…quite nice…caring…loveable…

Eiella’s blossoming love and the descent of the Council into undeniable acts of evil both spurned her defection. While she was on the Council she couldn’t have both her own respect and Gawyn’s love and she wished for both. On several occasions it appeared that life could change, but each was disrupted. Each time an excessively immature young aasimar blamed her male lover, and each time she moved further away to make him chase her, prove himself. The last time, Eiella Darkeyes moved to Terra.

She didn’t make a secret of it, she knew the Council were keeping tabs on her (for she did know a great level of secrets about their organisation) and she knew Gawyn would come. He always did after all, and when he did there’d be much tears and much hugging and make up. That was how it always worked. She left, Gawyn found her and that proved that he did indeed love her – the fabled womanizer of Kalimshere loved her. But this time…

A fortnight after Eiella entered Terra, the Shiranai invaded. Here is where even the Council lost concrete tabs on her, instead knowledge became hearsay. Eiella Darkeyes did not return home with the refugees when Terra was emptied, she was one of the unlucky ones, singled out because of her magic abilities. She was overpowered, collared and enslaved and placed under the thumb of her new master, a neurotic sadist by the name of Korvack.

Korvack did what Eiella’s lack of discipline never afforded – he forced her to come into her necromantic magic. It took a while to break that young, headstrong stubbornness, but Eiella was still only human, still reeling from her fate, still coming to grips that if she hadn’t gone to Terra, hadn’t been so childish to run away but stayed with Gawyn, she would be happy, safe, in love and loved. Unfortunately, in Korvack’s attempt to bring her into her own power, her own abilities, he never taught Eiella to regulate it, and the necromancy slowly began working its way with her physical attributes.

Eiella’s body changed as she was forced to work harder, her right eye became more attuned to seeing positive (life) and negative (energy) and the signatures of both in living creatures. Any other magical disciplines, cantrips and basic spells became lost to her repertoire, but she excelled in the manipulation and transplantation of life energy and its removal from living creatures. Her body became physically weaker, but mentally stronger. For her sins, Eiella wept often, for the loss of her future, Eiella wept more. For the knowledge it had been preventable, she wept the most.

Council reports list that during the Shiranai war there were several instances of witnesses talking of a young female necromancer with yellow eyes and silver hair raising graveyards and turning them on the remaining townsfolk. The woman was never officially labeled as Eiella Darkeyes. Their reports only touch the tip of the horrors Eiella Darkeyes committed at the behest of her Holder – half for the war effort, half as to push the Necromancer to new heights of power.

Close to the end of the Shiranai war, Korvack made a daring attempt on a border on the Kalimshere, still in Terran territory. He took Eiella to a known mass graveyard, and beat her until assent was granted to raises the resting bodies there. However a group of Terran sappers had planted alchemic compounds, fifty pound per coffin, in each of the sites, and blasted them to high heaven. Eiella was critically injured, as was Korvack, and in her last moment of defiance, she managed to push through the magical collar’s as Korvack lost control, and drained the life energy remaining in him to replenish her own injuries. His life, her vengeance, kept her alive – a fitting fate.

Reports record the event at the graveyard with the Terran sappers, and also the death of the Shiranai – his name is even recorded if someone were to look deep enough through deep enough files that were haphazardly pushed together in an archives. The necromancer, who was titled ‘Darkeyes’ had no final status entered which suggests that events occurred off the record after the battle.

Eiella Darkeyes, in return for a guide and freedom, took the life force from two nearby fields of wheat to heal those sappers injured in their brigade – her help granted her reprieve. She was guided to a place that lay on the border of Nyston, Terra and Carthan. Among those enslaved by the Shiranai, there was talk that there was a haven at a place where three streams from the three states met, and any prisoners, refugees freed from their collars could seek refuge there. The two sappers, sworn to secrecy by the young necromancer, left her at the convergence of the three streams.

Eiella joined those refugees there, and remains there, an enclave of around two hundred mages who never were named dead, but never came home; some could not come to terms with their actions, others who could not return having lost the mighty So’jihn Shyla Tadros.

The enclave remains there today, they know not of what occurs outside their world and do not record time but simply live for the will to atone. Eiella Darkeyes remains, but disquiet plagues her. The enclave is a huge source of magical power, which exists unknown to the world. A few people speak of it, mostly as a folk tale, but there are young children who know of its existence. For if the mages appear to anyone, it’s to children, gifting trinkets and small magical toys, to live vicariously through their smiles and innocence.

Eiella never returned home, because she did not believe that people could forgive her when she could never forgive herself. Over time the drugs she used means she lost the way home, but not the will, not ever. She misses Gawyn with all the passion she loves him with, but still cannot believe that even through loving another, is she pardoned. And it has, after all, been over 10 years…it is a long time, too long a time to expect things to return as they were. There remains no true record of her death, but neither any concrete proof of her life. The sappers did not know her true name, nor are the name of the pair who accompanied listed, only their platoon, and the report long buried in the archives with other files over half a decade old. The Council only verbally acknowledged the rumours of a necromancer among the Shiranai who matched Eiella’s description, no written records exist. Sheer force of will itself is not enough describe the effort it would require to bring her home though information alone, and for the majority, most have all but forgotten her name. The decision lies with the individual herself.

But Eiella Darkeyes indeed still exists, and her time will come when someone pushes her to take her first step.
Weapon Abilities Melee: None

Knives: Side-sword, short sword, rapier, scimitar (finesse weapons)

Ranged Weapons: Sling (Enchanted – uses small incendiary bullets/ammunition known as ‘Dragon’s Teeth’)

Blunt Weapons: Training Quarterstaff

Exotic Weapons: Tlacochtli – this is a small jagged blade on the end of a light chain (reinforced with magic to give greater tensile strength and mechanical resistance). A hit with this is also coupled with the damage taken by ripping the blade back out of the wound.

Magic: Necromancy

Eiella Darkeyes can only wield necromantic magic now. She has regained some enchantment skills, but it seems all other disciplines, even the spells she learned years ago, are lost to her. Her necromancy allows her especially the manipulation of life force, whether it be negative energy (undead energy) or positive (living). A few important effects are located below:

Golden Eye:

Eiella Darkeyes can ‘see’ the life energy in living creatures. It works on several levels. It allows her to be aware of where living or undead creatures are as if she had the ability to see their thermal profile, except she reads their ‘energy profile’. There are differences between different animals and plants, and also between individuals and individuals in different states, which can be learnt as easily as a person’s face and features.

Undead:

Raising creatures from the dead is not dependent on life energy, but necromantic magic. The necromancy magic brings forth undead creatures. Eiella, though she dislikes it, is capable of bringing undead creatures into existence to perform her bidding. Undead cannot be generated from nothing but require some form of physical remains or residual souls, even if they are very much degenerated.

Translocation of Energy:

Eiella Darkeyes cannot ‘heal’ per say. To ‘heal’ requires the generation of new energy, Eiella merely can take life energy from one creature, place, plant and place it in another. This can also have a restorative effect on the individual but it must be known that to give energy to someone, Eiella is taking it at the expense of another living thing.

Removing energy, depending on how great a quantity, can result in physical injury or death. Just as Eiella can restore energy to one person can she turn the tables and take it from the other.

Resurrection:

Korvack was obsessed with the notion of bringing back the dead. Eiella will tell you it is possible, though regulated and riddled with ‘ifs’ and ‘buts’ that she would not recommend it. Bringing back small simple creatures requires limited effort, bringing back a fish would only require enough life energy to do so, but it is the resurrections of humans that is difficult.

Any necromancer’s first role is to choose an Adjudicator. This does not need to be a verbal acknowledgement, or even does it produce any knowledge or change in the individual, but it gives the person bestowed the ability to regulate resurrection. A necromancer cannot raise an individual without the Adjudicator first delineating so. This was meant to be the first blockade to stop people from fiddling with the dead.

To bring back a life, a life must be taken. There is a huge amount of power which is found in the act of sacrifice and martyrdom. The necromancer must specifically take the life of another individual, only then may they bring back another. Once life force empowered by sacrifice is given, there must be physical remains to place it in of the individual to be raised. Even then it is the choice of the individual to return or not, and if they chose not to then the life force and death of another is wasted, and the remains return as undead.

Resurrection failed, cannot be attempted again.

The problem with playing with death, Eiella will tell you, is it creates a temporary rent in the spiritual plane that can allow souls to move regulated back to the physical plane. Such is the basis of many possessions.
