Zacapa is located south east on the Ulutain Peninsula South of Semhar and East of Gao. Their landscape is flat rich farm land that extends even out into the Naida Ocean. The climate in Zacapa is perfect for growing things. It is warm in the summer months and cooler in the winter months but because of the sunny days with medium rain throughout the year theirs is the clime for plants. Much of the known world’s food supply is grown in Zacapa and if it is not it is thought to be a lesser variety. Zacapa is the world’s leading spice trader as well as the world’s leading fruit and vegetable trader. Their vast salt fields in the ocean are famous and it is said by sailors in the South that if you can see the fields of Zacapa in the morning you’ll have good sailing. The country’s people also tend the vast flat lands into terraced squares all throughout the country.
The Zacapian capital of Dumah is the only place within the country that has cobbled streets and any semblance of “modern” architecture. The reasoning behind the Capital is strictly for trading with other countries and though the Zacapian people believe it to be a great waste of farm land, they also wish to make a good impression with their neighbors and allies
The population of the country ranges from fair skin to dark skin, brown to black hair. They are a nation that is held together by its love of growing green things. They are an easy going culture if you fit in with their farm or die attitude, if you do not, then they can be seen as a stingy, close knit race that secretly despises all other countries because of their inability to use their land.
Zacapian ideas are such that they think the world itself is a seed, and shaped like a seed. They believe that if you till the earth and water it that what you plant and what grows is a manifestation of the “Great Seed”. They also have strong “Mother Earth” religions throughout the country.
The government in Zacapa is about non existent. They are strictly a farming nation, they have no centralized government, nor do they need one. Zacapa is run wholly by the people; there are no King's, no senator's, and no politicians. If you live in Zacapa you grow something. If you are not a grower you are looked down upon for you have given up the beautiful experience of growing things with your own hands. Each farmer once a year gathers in the hall of the Trade House and discusses matters of state, such as war, production, trade. Otherwise they keep to themselves and farm the land, the ocean and if they could the air.
Although they despise the fact of money, Zacapa is a very wealthy nation. Mostly because they disperse the wealth they make on their cash crops equally through out the entire nation. No one is in lack, all are equal. And because their country is the only one that has the perfect climate for spices they are held in high regard by the rest of the known world. Without Zacapian spice, food consumption would be terrible.
Their history can be traced back to the Earth elementals in the very early days. In using their knowledge of earth magic they set it to use in farming and so it is today. All Zacapians have the “green thumb” which is an extension of that long ago elemental power. Each year the people of the farming lands gather together and chant for the rainy seasons and with the remnant power of those first elementals; Zacapa is the only nation that can literally boast that they call the rain forth.
Yet organized Zacapian history begins with Hwarath Greenthumb. He was the first to decide on unification of the Field Lands as they were once called. The farmers through the land agreed that if they were going to maximize production they should join in together and sell their spice to the entire world for a price that would allow them to make enough profit to better tend their fields the next season around. But also they wanted to expand. Zacapians only truly think about growing expansion and growing potential. To assure that they would all remain equal in their country they all decided upon not having any authority, but rather giving authority into the hands of the farmers.
Ever since those early days the Zacapians have one motto “Emerant Ghislain” which in their language literally translates to “Emerald Pledge”. They are tied to the earth and forever shall be. They will plant, while the world around them changes. For in Zacapian minds, if you’re not planting you are wasting time.
