Nyston is a dead country to the Northwest of Carthan and directly West of Terra. Because of it close proximity to Terra it also has the rolling grassland landscape. Their climate is temperate and their once great capital is Hertael.
Fair skin, light eyes and dark hair are what used to be the commonality for the Nystonian appearance. But due to events in their history there are no living Nystonian people left in the world.
Nyston was once a great power that flexed its muscles and ruled with the power that Carthan does today. One hundred and fifty hears ago civil war broke out and the Nyston people destroyed themselves. It is a common saying though out the world, “Have not the pride like Nyston, your tomorrow could be ruins.”
Nyston was founded around the 8th or 9th year of this our New Age. It was founded with one supreme Emperor to give out his decrees to the land. His name was Cyriacus Honoratus. Under his rule the people were happy; they pushed trade out into the far reaches of the Gormal and East into Carthan.
Fourteen rulers later came the reign of Leonius Otho. This is where the country took its turn downward. Otho was a harsh man. It was he that brought the famine to the people of Nyston. His poor diplomacy to the other realms lost the people their imports, their food. There was an up rising which Otho put down with his private army. More riots ensued in the following days finally the private guard was destroyed by citizen riots and Otho was taken out and beheaded, his lifeless body torn apart and posted at all the major squares in the city. With his dying words Otho cursed the Nyston people and their land saying that in the end the country would be nothing but ruins.
So it came to pass. The people, starved and angry, fought among themselves and eventually destroyed themselves.
Nyston culture was once rich, men and women were alike in status and women were greatly respected because of the pantheon of Gods the Nystonian people believed in. Women were as equal as men and they coexisted harmoniously. The Nyston people believed in farming, trading and keeping good relationships with the other countries around them. It is even rumored that Nyston had a city across the Gormal that traded with them a special fruit that was said to cure sickness and was the color of the setting sun.
There is not much more to be said about the country of Nyston. After its Civil War and the destruction of all of this people the world left it alone because it was said to be an unhappy area, and if you stepped within its bounds a sadness would over come you for the destruction that was wrought there. Many have been known to wander into the ruins and never been seen again alive. Nyston and his ruined capital have in recent years been taken over by brigands and other unsavory thieves. Any villages that are even close to what was once Nyston are Carthan or Terran settlers.
There is one rumor though that still hangs in the air. It is said that a handful of Nyston Refugees escaped with their lives during the Civil War. No one is sure how many, and no one knows of their fate. These refugees are spoken about with fear because there is a negative stigma on those that are from the land. It was because of greed and tyranny that they fell and more anger and greed that they destroyed themselves. As far as the other countries are concerned any Nystonian is dangerous and a bad omen.
