Quick Facts:
Ruler:
Location: The furthest Southern edge of the Known World
Captial: Ramuthra
Climate: Hot, arid desert
Known For: Aahnah production
Gnard is the sole country on the Analtric Continent. Theirs is a land of sand and heat. Vast sand dunes blanket the landscape with small oasis’ here and there. This continent and country is sparsely populated by a forgotten and looked down upon people.
It seldom rains in Gnard but when it does the people of that land have figured out where the most rain fall is gathered and that is where many of the villages are located. The capital city of Ramuthra is the central hub for all Gnardians when it comes to water and trade. The capital is also the hub of trade for the rest of the world with Gnardians for it is in Gnard that the great Aahna plant is found. Ramuthra is also the ruling tribes dominion. It is from the capital that the leader extends his power.
Gnardians are a lot like Kostromans when it comes to government. They are several separate warring tribes that move nomadically through out the desert and have their home base in a place of great rainfall. Because of the nomadic nature of the Gnardian tribes they usually do not play well with one another and though they can trade well with the world outside they do not always trade well with one another. Gnardian history is full of civil war and hate. The only thing any of them CAN agree on is the distribution of Aahna.
Aahna is Gnard’s only export. If not for the plant they would be a people cut off from everyone because the Gnardian deserts are so hard to cross and no one wishes to attempt to cross them, save for the country’s inhabitants. Only Gnardian people have the knowledge about the desert and it is they who traverse it to reach Eystra with their Aahna shipments. In recent years they have cobbled and painstakingly kept clean from the sand the “North Road” that has now allowed trade to strengthen for Eystrian traders can actually travel to Ramuthra without a guide.
Aahna is used in ALL of the world’s religions but also can be used as a great healing herb as it cleanses the blood and can prevent dark magic from sinking into a person’s body and killing them. It is rare that Aahna is used in medicine but the Gnardians are among the few who use it as both.
The Gnardian people are harsh, almost barbaric looking, simply because their environment is so harsh on them. They are usually very tall and blonde with lightly tanned skin from the sun. Theirs is a country of fair hair, like that of Terra; they are the only two countries in the world to have natural born blondes. Because of their location in the desert, many of the villages and the capital being deep in the desert, Gnardians have a great fear of open bodies of water for they never see them on a daily basis. Many horror stories passed through the culture are of drowning in a great deluge of water.
Gnardian history is interesting in that the world doesn’t know much of it. No one has taken the time to travel to the continent, it is always the Gnardians themselves that reach out to the world and travel, the world has never reached out to them, save for recently the Eystrians. This is something that Gnardians always bring to light in conversation. They have a natural mistrust of other countries, because they feel they are used by everyone for their Aahna.
The only myth or history that Gnardians will share with scholars is the myth of the “Green World.” Gnardians believe that the desert they live in now was once green and lush with life. But for some reason the Gods became angry and scorched the earth, making it lifeless sand. Gnardians burn Aahna to please their gods and please the Light. They believe that if they live a good life and are kind to others that perhaps the Gods will see fit to give them back their lush valleys and the Age of Life will begin. How old this myth is no one knows. Scholars cannot date the Gnardian culture but it may well be the oldest on the planet, simply because there is so little known about them.
