Darya is a small country within the Carthan mainland in the South. They are a country that is totally sealed off from the world, unless they wish not to be. Their landscape is heavy forest, and only heavy forest. Their capital city is unknown. The only thing known about it is that it is a vast tree village that may or may not stretch the entire length of Darya.

The climate of this southern Elvin retreat is summer. They have beautiful sun shiny days, and clear moon filled nights. The cool breezes from the Gormal keep their climate temperate and enjoyable. Theirs is a paradise saved only for Elves that once lived out in the known world but have now since gone from it.

The population of Darya varies with the number of different Elvin races that live there. No elf is turned away from the refuge and no humanoid is let in. They are strict on that aspect and do not deviate from it. The most commonly known Elf in Darya are the wood elves with their brown hair and clothing made from the forest itself. They are secretive and are the ones who guard the boarders of the realm. The high elves rule, with their dark hair, light skin and smooth speech. The King of the paradise is Amras Eledhwen who took power during the Shiranai war after he killed the conniving King Ecthelion who sought to unite the Elvin lands with Shiranai power and watch the wood be destroyed. Amras Eledhwen is a good King and rules with the thought of other nations in his mind. This is unique for Darya for they have been isolationists for many years, but because of a kinship with Bjorn Denloffson (Bjorn saved Amras’ wife, Tari) he will answer the call of aid from Carthan or any of her allies.

The Elvin culture within Darya is again vast because of the refugees that inhabit its forest but there is a center norm for culture and traditions. For example, it is polite to argue with someone in Darya when you first meet. It is polite to argue a good point and win. In the Elfish idea this opens the conversation floor and sets down between the new acquaintances the knowledge of both. In other words, arguing provides the courtesy of sharing knowledge. But because the Elvin race is so old there is a stigma on them that implies they know everything. If a foreigner can win their argument they, in a way, prove themselves and gain friendship within the realm.

There is also a great respect for those Elvin women who possess the power of “Calling the Trees”. This is an ancient power and is the reason why Darya is impassable to outsiders. The forest is held fast with magic and only one with the ability to ask the forest to reveal itself will enter. This magic is passed down through mother to daughter and is saved for women only. There is only one instance where it passed from mother to son. It was in the beginning of the colonization of Darya. The first woman to manifest the power was of the Faery people, a Queen in her own land, but had left for the love of an outsider, her name was Titania, because of her love for her child, even though it was a boy, she passed the magic into him. No one today now knows of this child, or remembers his name, but it was said that he was a Child of the Sky.

The last ritual that is practiced only in Darya is their Kingship rights. Darya is run by a High King. But unlike many monarchies that are set up around the world Darya’s is not through a family line but through assassination. Usually the King will be assassinated, or asked to be killed by one that he names successor. Who so ever kills the current King and has the backing of the nation, so takes up the crown. But before the King rules or makes any decrees or laws it is a woman that must “name” him and give him his power. It can be any woman, if she be from the Elvin race and the succession is one that has been planned the “naming” can last up to a week, with the woman addressing the King and the newly appointed leader remains in total silence for this period of time. It is only until a woman addresses the new Sovereign that he can truly take power.

This ritual is because of an old Elvin folk tale, which Bjorn Denloffson tells here:

"It is said that in the beginning of the world there was a woman and a man. The woman came first and from her body created the man, for it is only in the power of women to create. When the man was created he took over the earth and woman stayed just behind, for she was delicate, too much other worldly, for Elves believe that women are the shells that carry the divine within them. But man was gone too long and woman was killed by the darkness of the world that had not yet been captured. When man returned he found that his voice had been silenced. For, in Elvin thought, women because they carry the divine, are man's soul, they are what man comes from, they are the best part of us and it is our duty to protect them. Because woman is man's soul without her his voice was no more, so he wept silently, wishing that she would return to him. Out of pity the Gods sent woman back to man. Though the second woman could not create on her own, man now had to help her create, which is why marriage is so sacred to the Elvin race. Once married, always married, for in marriage and marital relations the act of that first creation between woman and man in the beginning comes forth with life again in children. When woman returned to man so did his voice and with his voice he was able to control the darkness and with the darkness harnessed so came civilization. Ever since then when a new King is raised it is a woman that must address him, for with her voice he finds his."
