Ok guys, here's something to get you all thinking, lol. I was babysitting the other night and ended up watching this programme called the 100 Greatest Tearjerkers, and it was basically a collection of movie, TV and sports scenes that were really emotional, lol. But I didn't actually agree with some of the things they had in their list, so I decided to make my own, and I thought it could be quite interesting to compare our lists, lol...to see if there's a common difference between what girls generally tend to cry at, and what boys cry at.

So here's my list. Most of them are character deaths, coz that's what usually get me...especially if the character is one of my favourites, lol. Happy moments usually see me beaming like an idiot, not crying, lol...even though I know some people cry at happy moments. But deaths get me nearly every time.

And some of these clips, I found myself still welling up a little when I was searching for the clips...so that's how strong some of them are, if they can still get me after god knows how many years, lol.

The list is in reverse order, lol.

20. Claude begs forgiveness from Hero - Shakespeare Retold (Much Ado About Nothing)

I'm not a big fan of Shakespeare, but I AM a big fan of this modern version, lol, and this moment where Claude realises how stupid he's been, and begs Hero to wake up, only for the alarms to sound. As he's walking out of the room and all the nurses and doctors rush in, you really fear the worst!

19. The final race - Seabiscuit

The jockey with a shattered leg, told he'd never ride again...the lame racehorse, who everyone wanted to put down because they thought he'd never race again. Both worked together, and with a little help from an old friend, proved everyone wrong!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jPxX0IQ4LxI

18. Two Brothers

There's so much tragedy in this film, considering it's a kid's film! The cub's father is shot! One of the cubs is kidnapped, the mother fails to rescue him, then she herself gets shot, then one cub's treated cruelly and his spirit gets broken in the circus, the other cub is trained to become a vicious killing machine, the two brothers are forced to fight each other for entertainment...it's like one tragedy after another! And then right at the very end, they make it back home together, having survived everything and a tiger walks out of the bushes, and it's their mother...and it's just such a powerful and amazing moment!

17. Ellen's death - Casualty

She was certainly one of the best characters of the show, and again...her death was totally unexpected! And it was at Christmas too! A time when you're meant to be happy!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=LjAZ8b6nD7c

16. ET

Hands up who's cried at this film? Pretty much everybody, I expect.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yaYZdYFz_6Q

15. Owen and Toshiko's deaths - Torchwood (Exit Wounds)

A completely unexpected plot twist that caught me off guard - even though I didn't even like the characters that much, lol. But that one line..."Because you're breaking my heart"...that's what did it for me.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1X6hvqIjLrE

14. The Snowman

A brilliant film, even if it is sad at the end!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pI9O_GJ8J0Q

13. The Green Mile

A film I've yet to watch all the way through...but the fact that you know he's innocent when he dies, and Tom Hanks' acting...well...

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=LNBieXXV8NI

12. Maximus' death - Gladiator

Again, another film I've never actually managed to see all the way through. I've only seen bits of it...but this was actually the first scene I watched, and it got to me within minutes, lol.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=svE2DRRopzE

11. Padme's Death - Revenge of the Sith

Watched this at the cinema, and I'm so glad it was dark...gave me a moment to compose myself without anyone noticing. Luckily I had a cold, so all the sniffing was put down to that by my cousin, who I was watching with.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uCzLBdqC3sw

10. Black Beauty

I was seven when I first watched this, and completely mad on horses. I couldn't bare to see one suffer (I still can't), so this film was a real tearjerker for me, though I forced myself to watch it all, and I'm glad I did, because it's an amazing film, despite all the tragedy! And one of my fav films of all time, today!

9. Donna pleads with the Doctor to save just 1 life - Doctor Who (The Fires of Pompeii)

Catherine Tate's emotional acting was just amazing! And far too convincing!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=OvgmrQxr-Lg

8. Mufasa's Death - The Lion King

I remember having to run from the room when I first watched this film. I had to make up some excuse after this scene and run away for a few minutes. Though, correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe this was also the first ever Disney film to show a character actually dead on the screen. All other characters who had died, were either brought back to life with a kiss, or something...or they died off screen and you never actually saw it.

7. Marian's supposed death - Robin Hood (Return of the King/ A Clue: No)

The first time Marian was stabbed by Gisborne, it appeared like she had died then, too. And the look in Robin's eyes said it all. Plus the music, too.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ql02PnYgyJQ

6. Bambi

Come on...who ISN'T affected by this scene?!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-eHr-9_6hCg

5. Titanic

This scene always gets me, yet I can't say exactly why, coz I just don't know :s (Sorry Tori, you're gonna kill me now, aren't you :s)

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=3i_YJ5iPsys

4. Watership Down

This was the last film I watched with my grandfather, on the morning of the day he died. Need I say more?

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zkirtbpz5h4

3. Donna's 'death' - Doctor Who (Journey's End)

Donna Noble saved the entire Universe, but at a price. She can never remember the Doctor, or she will die. She believed she was 'just a temp' and nothing special, until she met the Doctor. Then, for a moment in time, she became the most important woman in the entire universe, and she's not allowed to remember any of it! She has to go on the rest of her life believing that she's still nothing special. To me, that is tragic! And again, Catherine Tate's acting was just superb! And David Tennant too!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ophjcF0b9cU

2. Rose says goodbye to the Doctor - Doctor Who (Doomsday)

Rose and the Doctor are forcefully separated forever when she is dragged to a completely different universe. They can't ever see each other again, and he doesn't even get the chance to say he loves her. This is also the first time you see the Doctor cry!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=d7GEuLnaACU

And my number 1 tear jerking moment came last Christmas in the form of Marian's actual death - Robin Hood (We Are Robin Hood)

Marian was stabbed by Sir Guy of Gisborne and this time, she didn't survive. I bawled like a baby after this! (Ask Tori and Ced if you don't believe me :P)

20.) Wuthering Heights – The ending

I was raised on old movies and this is the first film I remember crying over when I was about 4 lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPdhecpJwqk

19.) Out of Africa – Any love scene

Because you know Denys is going to die I find almost every scene where the love theme swells touching, music is to blame lol I picked this scene cause the music becomes very beautiful when they are flying

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHjwq3e7lHw

18.) Hook – When the Lost Boys realize he is Peter Pan

Always was touched by this scene, I remember having tears in my eyes when I first saw it on cinema. Again music to blame I think lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pFNaqKZoYt0

17.) Gone with the Wind - Ending

Me being raised on old films again, always loved the ending

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Yv_PunF284

16.) AI: Artificial Intelligence - Ending

I think it was mostly the pyschology behind all the themes of this movie that got to me in the end, the reflection of emotions, David’s life being the reflection of mankind’s journey etc, the ending I just found very sad cause it implies, we’re fucked lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQsU-k3OTdk

15.) Edward Scissorhands - Finale

Loved the fairytale ending, knowing that he would live on forever young, remembering Kim the way she once was 

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OpyAzEQBJ6A

14.) ET - Ending

Who hasn’t cried at this? Common, admit it lol

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yaYZdYFz_6Q

13.) Toy Story 2 – Jesse’s Story

I was 16/17 when I first saw this but this scene alone was enough to make me tear up with guilt at all the toys I had cast aside in the past lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Is_hpHzEMiE

12.) Bambi – Bambi’s mother’s death

Everyone’s cried at this, everyone. There are big hairy arsed bulls of men in prison, with their bodies covered in tattoos who have cried at this lol

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=-eHr-9_6hCg

11.) Return of the Jedi – Yoda’s Death

Always devastated me when I was a kid, not so much these days but when I was a little girl I was like noooo! Great froggy man can’t die!!! Lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8tYp5f5jck

10.) Revenge of the Sith – Order 66

Always gets to me, again I think the music is to blame lol

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=09n0qd_n4c0

9.) Watership Down – Hazel is shot

Sad, touching and yet slightly disturbing lol But the music is enough to make me cry lol

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=zkirtbpz5h4

8.) The Lion King – Mufasa’s Death

I remember biting onto my lip so hard with tears rolling down my face when I saw this at the cinema lol Beautifully done

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=RXSMYQAfO8k

7.) Futurama: Luck of the Fryrish – The truth about Fry’s brother

One of the rare ocassions when a TV show gets to me, and this is the most baffling because it’s a comedy series. But through the series you always saw that Fry had a problem with his older brother, but he was now 1000 years in the future with all his family left behind him. In this episode he thinks that his brother stole his name in order to become a great space hero, making Fry hate him more and jealous, but at the end he discovers it was not his brother, it was his nephew who he never knew, named after him. So he then realizes his brother truly loved him and named his son after him to carry on his spirit (as all his family thought he must’ve died). Sad ending 

NO VIDEO SADLY, GOD DAMN YOUTUBE FOR HAVING NEARLY EVERYTHING BUT THIS!!!

6.) Schindler’s List – When Schindler breaks down

Sad moment, the scene itself really says enough 

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPHvLtitxug

5.) Revenge of the Sith – Padmé’s Death & Funeral

Even though I knew it was coming, to actually see it on the big screen for the first time was just so so sad 

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCzLBdqC3sw

4.) Somewhere in Time - Ending

The part which got to me was the ending, after Richard was brought back to the future, leaving his love in the past, who was already dead in his original time. And when he realized he could not get back to her and died of grief, a broken man  Again the music is a culprit here!

Here’s the scene when he’s sent back to the future up to the ending. Though some is cut out to make it shorter, basically he suffered days trying to go back to her but couldn’t, this is when he dies:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wSfcpJb_J38

3.) Doctor Zhivago – Yuri’s Death & Finale ‘Then it’s a gift’

I watched this movie recently, beautiful film that you really need to get into and watch a few times to appreciate. It’s a lot to take in just watching it once. I think because Anakin and Padmé’s love story reflects this one is why I always lied it. There are a lot of similarities, even that the Lake Retreat of Episode II is called Varykino, after Yuri and Lara’s retreat in the film. Even the poster of both movies reflect one another. Anyway, the ending is sad but beautiful. Amazing music too.

Couldn’t find the scene that wasn’t in bloody spanish, so just placed one little scene with the beautiful music:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wI_1b3elDtY

2.) Sweet November – ‘Only Time’ Montage

When Keanu’s character realizes she’s dying, and he thinks back on all of the times they spent together, so so so sad. The song is really beautiful and touching.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XX_adyzmBSo

1.) Return of the Jedi – Vader’s Funeral

Effects me more now than it ever did thanks to the prequels, cause now we understand the tragedy of Anakin’s sad life. Makes me think of everyone else than was lost in order for him to become the chosen one, the Jedi, Padmé etc

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir1VDXuIenE
