Prolouge: A rain was coming. Clouds as dark as the night were creeping over the nearby mountains, blown by a cool breeze. Vibrant flashes of blue cast an eerie glow against the horizon as lighting flashed with the fury of the gods. The citizens were moving to get indoors before the approaching storm reached the city. It was odd how people seemed to fear the rain as though it would melt them where they stood. Quite the opposite in fact, rain was the gods divine cleansing, washing away the stress of the day. Sitting on a park bench, a young man looks into the darkening sky through the bangs of his red hair. The rain was good for life; all life thrived off of it, its essential. The man’s pale green eyes narrowed as the sound of a clicking cane moved closer to him. Turning his head in the direction of the sound he saw an old man moving towards him. He raised an eyebrow as the man sat down next to him, and sighed as though a heavy weight had been removed from his shoulders. “You can stare all day if you want young one, but I won’t get any better looking.” The old man said with a smile. The young man snorted, that was as close to laughter as allow himself. “Forgive my rudeness, you surprised me. With the coming rain most people would move indoors rather than sitting on a bench in the park.” The young man commented returning his gaze back to the sky. The old man chuckled, “An excellent point child, but seeing as you are also on this bench I would guess you’re not a normal person either. I would give you a word of wisdom about the rain and cleaning, but that would lump me in with every other old man in the nation and I like being thought of as an individual.” This time the young man did laugh, “Despite how little I know of you, I’m inclined to like you. I too prefer to be thought of as an individual and I prefer to not be lectured every time I have a conservation with someone older than me” “Indeed, we are a nation of incredible intelligence and wisdom. But that doesn’t mean we have to show it off every time we open our mouths,” the old man said nodding his head. “Though, if you have the time, I have a story that I think will help you. I sense you have a great task ahead of you.” Looking at the old man out of the corner of his eye the young man sized the other man up. He didn’t appear to be out of the ordinary, though that fact did not remove the suspicion from his mind. He nodded, ”I have some time left, be quick if you are able.” “Hpmm, you are indeed quick young one. You give me leave to tell you a tale while at the same time hinting at my age. All that aside, the story I have to tell is one of loss. Not loss in the normal sense of losing money or a family member, not even the lose of life. All these things could indeed be warned against in this story but it is a deeper meaning to which I impart.” The old man paused as he collected his thoughts and looked forward though his eyes no longer focused on anyone thing in front of him. ”Long ago, the land of our nation was covered by dragons. All dragons were revered by one village or another; many came to serve their villages as protectors. Some outlaws who would raid the villages for slaves, money, food, or for the sheer pleasure of killing tried to kill the dragons. But as you most likely can guess the dragons had great power, not only physical but magical as well. For more than a century went by with the dragons keeping peace in the land, villages flourished and all were happy. But one day something changed, out of the village hidden deep in the mountains where few traveled came a man of great skill as a warrior. He was one of the first true ninja known to the country. At first he was viewed with much respect due to his skill and many became his followers. It soon became apparent that his purpose was to unify the land. Now I know you’re thinking that this is a noble purpose, and perhaps it was, but the dragons in their wisdom saw a sinister motive behind the mans effort. They made a move to destroy him; one by one they dragons left their villages and attacked the man, and one by one they were destroyed. I know what you’re thinking, how could a man destroy beings of such great power, and the answer is quite simple; he found their weakness.” The old man began to laugh with the strength of a man many years younger than himself. “It is so simple a thing that many people forget, no matter how great a beings strength is, or its speed, or intelligence, or anything else, if you find a things weakness it shall fall before you as though it was a house of twigs before a tornado. Remember this and you will prevail in any trial. I will save the rest of the story for another time.” “What was their weakness old man? The dragons?” The young man asked in a quiet voice. “Oh you’re right I forgot to tell you. The weakness of any and all dragons and the only thing that can defeat them is nothing more than a yellow bird. Tragic such great things were destroyed by nothing more than a yellow bird.” The old man gave a soft laugh at what he thought to be a great irony. All of a sudden the old man’s eyes widened, ”Goodness, where are my manners young one, I never introduced myself, I am Safuma. What is your name?” Looking over he realized the young man had vanished. Then as though being carried by the wind and swirling all around him, Safuma heard the words of the young man, “Shadow’s have no name.” |

Chapter 1 "Here you are sir, have a great evening and come again." The shop keeper called cheerfully as the couple accepted their change and left the small shop. The sho keeper began wiping the counter off. He looked up as the front door opened and a young man walked in and came up to the counter. "Good evening, what can I get for you?" the shop keeper asked with a smile. "One bowl of ramen with chicken and a glass of tea, please." The young man replied quietly. After a few minutes of preperations the shop keeper placed the steaming bowl and beverage in front of the young man "Enjoy," he said with a smile. "Thank you, it looks delicious." the young man replied. Not long after the front door opened with a loud bang. Five men walked throught the door laughing and yelling to each other. One of them, possibly the leader, wearing a leather jacket called to the shop keeper, "Old man, five large bowls and a bottle of sake." "You there," yelled the smallest of the group," this is a private party. Leave now or we'll make you leave." The young man looked up from his meal to stare at the small man through pale green eyes,"I would perfer to stay, this is the best food in town and I will not disturb you." This caused the group to break out into laughter once again. The one with the leather jacket spoke first, " I don't think you understand, we weren't negotiating. Leave now, try the dumpling shop down the street." "I do not like dumplings, besides I am almost done anyway. Exercise some patience, I will be gone in a few minutes." They stopped laughing at that and began moving closer, surrounding the table. The short man leaned in close and looked the young man in the eyes," Do you know who we are boy?" The young mans eyes narrowed, "Indeed I knowexactly who you are." "And yet you chose to not take our advice and leave while you had the chance. That is your mistake, now you will pay for it." The man in the leather jacket said as he knocked the table over. The young man stood and look at each man in turn," I give you this one chance to back away and not do this. You've all just been added tot he ranks of the yakuza, it would be a shame for you all to die here and now." The man in leather laughed,"You're the only one who is going to die tonight." As he finished speaking he reached into his jacket and pulled free his pistol. As he went to aim it the young man disappeared. Next to him the short man gave a sharp cry and sank to his knees. Looking over he saw his windpipe was crushed. The man swung his pistol around tring to find the man that had seemingly vanished before his eyes. Behind him he heard a crack and a sharp cry followed by the sounds of two bodies hitting the floor. Turning he saw that one man had a broken neck and the other was bleeding his life away from a cut throat. He started to breath quicker realizing he may not survive this encounter. He felt a light breeze touch his neck and quickly turning and fired. The gun shot echo'd in the small store. But instead of the red headed man, the fourth man in his group stood looking down at the bullet wound in his chest. He looked up and sighed before falling over backwards. Seeing what had happened he dropped his gun and ran for the door but stopped short. From the base of his skull protruded a thing needle. He wavered for a moment before falling on his face. The young man looked at the bodies and shook his head. Some people could be so unreasonable. He walked over to the counter and layed down a large amount of money down. "Sorry for the mess, this should cover the meal and the damages." He turned and left the shop and walked away with his hands in his pockets. He regretted having to kill the men in the shop, it was so unneccesary. But he couldn't dwell on it, he had a mission to get done and it would require complete focus. He moved through the city weaving through the crowds of people, looking out of the corner of his eye everytime a police car went by. After a hour he had finally reached his destination. alking through the dark doorway of the warehouse he made his way up the stairs to the roof. Walking to the edge he scanned the docks below looking for his target. Finally he found them, standing in a group at the end of one pier gathered around what looked like weapons crates. His pale green eyes focused in on them, it was time to start. He jumped from the roof and halfway down pushed off the wall sending him towards the group. This might turn out to be fun he thought as he drew closer to the group. |

Chapter 2 Uura stood looking into the crate full of grenades approvingly. "Your men did well Kintaro, it is difficult to find there items." He said to the man next to him. "It was our pleasure sir," Kintaro said with a large grin," hopefully with these our mission will go smooth." "I'm sure it will, by noon tomorrow the ambassador's da" "Boss," yelled a gaurd cutting him off," Someones coming." "What, who?" Uura asked as he turned to look down the pier. He squinted to try and make outthe man coming towards them, but he was a blur of motion. gaurds fell as the man swept past them, most looked like they had sword wounds on them. Thats ridiculous, who would use a sword in this day and age? Uura thought as yet another gaurd went down holding his neck. Two gaurds pulled machine guns from crates and began firing. But even as they started they stopped. One, a knife in his throat, fell over the edge and landed in the water below with a loud splash. The other stood suspended, both hands rapped around the blade of a short sword that had been stabbed into his gut. On the other end of the sword stood a man with red hair. "What are you two waiting for, shoot....him" He studdered to a halt as he looked back tosee his personal body gaurds already dead, killed and he hadn't even noticed. Next to him, Kintaro pulled a grenade from the crate. "This will take care of him." With that he pulled the pin and threw the grenade. Both men dove for cover and waited for the explosion, but none came. Lookingover the edge of the crate Uura's eyes went wide with fear. The grenade hadn't gone off because a needle was where pin used to be, disarming the grenade before it ever had a chance to arm. He looked up at the man, he was doing something with his hands, making some kind of signs; suddenly his body stopped working. He fell over backwards and lay looking at the dark sky above. The young man walked to where the two men lay and stared at them through green eyes. "You are no doubt wondering why this is happening to you Shimazu Uura. And I will tell you. You and your organization planned to kidnap the daughter of a foreign dignitary, but you were short sighted to see that your acts could have cause a full scale war that would destroy our nation. That is why it was decided you would die, perhapes the other will change their ways now. Goodbye." With that he pulled free another grenade from the crate. With slow care he removed the pin and dropped it between them. Then as though he had never been there he vanished. Uura had four seconds to regret his life before he was consumed by fire and shrapnel. On the street the young man peered through the fence as the explosion ripped the pier apart. As he had hoped the crate of grenades had been set off by the one he had dropped. With a smile he put his hands in his pockets and walked down the street towards the center of town. Hopefully this would change the minds of the Yakuza bosses but only time would tell. He looked up at the brightening sky, It was going to be a beautiful day. He thought. Just then a man bumped into him. "Appologies." The man said and walked away. The young man never stopped walking, instead he looked at the small piece of paer that was now in his hand. 'Confirm mission status, meet at designated location two, and congrats on the promotion.' After reading it he put it between his thumb and fore finger, snapping his fingers the piece of paper caught fire and burned to nothing in a few seconds. He turnied at the next street and began walking toward the meeting place. Within minutes he could see the bar. He wondered who they would send. |

Chapter 3 The young man sat in a booth near the back of the bar. He sipped slowly at the drink he had ordered. He still wondered who would be sent, the leaders could be so unpredictable with those sorts of things. He stopped drinking as he noticed someone approaching him. He looked over to see a man with long hair walking toward him. He recognized him instantly due to the camo pants and tank top the man seemed to always wear. "Sanjuro, I didn't think you were running errands, they usually send some stiff neck in a suit." The young man joked. Sanjuro chuckled and dropped into the booth, "You know alot of people up top think you have no sense of humor, but I know better my friend." The young man raised and eyebrow," Well if they came out into the field more often they would know better." "Now now Rex, you know that they can't cause that would put the clan in jeapordy." "Iknow," Rex said nodding his head,"still calling me by my nickname?" "Its your fault for trying to summon a dinosaur when we were kids, and honestly I have trouble remembering your real name these days." Sanjuro laughed. "I suppose so, how's your sister by the way?" "She's fine, still has a crush on you though I don't know why. Anyway I assume your mission went well." "Ofcourse, the yakuza's plan has been halted and with any luck they will abandon the whole idea." Rex said before finishing his drink. "Good to know, it would be bad to have to report that you had failed to the boss." "You know if I had failed I would have have died. Failure does not usually go hand in hand with failure for men like us." "This is true, but we do so for the clan and in doing so we would make it stronger." Sanjuro said as he slammed his fist into the table. "You always were prideful, anyway whats my next assignment?" "Its another assination mission and you have a partner." "Who?" Rex asked. "Me ofcourse," Sanjuro laughed, "Our target is the main boss of the yakuza. Though the leaders know they are in danger we feel it is neccesary to completely destroy their plans." "That makes since, cut the head off and all that. How long do we have till we need to move?" Rex asked. "A day or so, we're moving against him at his home in the mountains. We figure it'll be easier there since we can use our techniques without the public seeing. We figure there will be maybe five servents there so we do need to watch our fire, literally in you case." Rex snorted, "Right, I'll meet you here tomorrow. I need to pick some things up from my apartment. I assume we'll be gone in full gear." "Ofcourse." Sanjuro confirmed. The two men got up and walked out to the street. After shaking hand, Rex watched Sanjuro ride away on his motor cycle before turning and walking toward his apartment. Tomorrow would be a tough mission, he needed to prepare. |

Chapter 4 The leaves were begining to change. The forest looked as though the gods had thrown different shades of paint across the country side. A high whine sounded on the horizon and grew louder by the second. Two motor cycles flashed by moving quickly into the mountains. The men were on a mission, though noone but they knew of its importance. "How far till we reach the start point? Rex asked over his head set. "Five minutes, we'll stash the bikes and move in on foot." Sanjuro said. Five minutes later the two men pulled off the mountain road into a thick stand of trees. They began to get into their uniforms. Both perfered to wear traditional garb when on missions not in populated areas. They both wore identical black uniforms with forearm, shin, and chest protectors. On their right shoulders sat the traditional ANBU tatoos. Though Sanjuro's was almost hidden by the other numerous tatoos covering his body. Both wore short swords and equipment packs. Finally they covered their motor cycles with a camo net. "To the succes of the mission." Rex said. "To the glory of the clan." Sanjuro returned. Both finally donned heir headbands bearing the Konoha clan marking. And the last piece of equipment both men placed over their faces mask passed down by their ancestors. Sanjuro's was a cat painted in spring greens and blues. Rex's looked like a fox and was painted in crimson red with black highlights. "You know I've always wondered where you got that mask." Sanjuro commented. "Someone way back in my family line had it made. Not sure who." Rex said after a pause." Anyway we should get started." "Right." With that both men sprang into the trees and began moving towards their objective. They moved with speed very few beings in this world could match. With in minutes they reached the outer wall of the yakuza's mansion. They stopped in a tree over looking the property. "Hmm, more gaurds than we origionally thought. We'll have to move fast to take them all out before they can call in back up." Sanjuro said as he scanned the various gaurd stations. "We should be fine, lets get started. There's a show I want to watch tonight." Rex joked. "Right you are, to the clan." "The clan." The men split into different directions to take care of the gaurds. It took a handful of seconds before half the gaurds were dead and the other half fighting for their lives. On the right side of the masion Sanjuro was throwing kunai and using lightning techniques to strike gaurds down before they knew what hit them. On the left side Rex was moving through gaurds using his sword to cut them down. He turned toward a maching gun nest, quickly forming hand seals he breathed in deep and blew out. A fire ball consumed the gun melting it to useless metal and turning the gaurds into flaming torches. Looking around he quickly made sure all the gaurds were dead before catching up with Sanjuro at the back door. Rex and Sanjuro slipted into the back door and moved quietly through the house making sure the bottom floor of the house. They accounted for four of the servants. They moved upstairs, creeping through the dark rooms untill only one was left. Kicking open the door they stopped only a few steps inside the room. On the other side of the room stood the yakuza boss holding a gun to the head of the last servant. "Finally you've arrived. I was wondering what was taking so long." The yakuza boss said with a luagh. "You must know that holding that servant hostage will not stop us." Sanjuro said. The yakuza boss laughed, "So you would watch one of your own die?" Using his free hand the yakuza boss turnedthe girl's arm towards Rex and Sanjuro. On the her forearm was the leaf tatoo that had replaced headbands, the same tatoo that both Rex and Sanjuro had on their forearms. "You didn't really think you could slip one of your spies in with out me finding out did you?" The man laughed. Rex's voice went ice cold,"I think you would be well advised to let her go and accept her fate." "No I think I'll take her with me." His finger began to tighten but the action was cut short by a kunai cutting throught the trigger making the pistol useless. A second after Rex was on the other side of the room and the crime lord's arm was on the floor. The girl jumped out of the was as Sanjuro and Rex stabbed the yakuza boss through the heart from opposite sides. The boss coughed once and died, Rex and Sanjuro with drew their swords and lowered the body to the floor. "His other gaurds wil be here shortly, we need to leave, lets go." Sanjuro said as he put his sword away and walked from the room. Rex walked to the girl and offered his hand,"Come, we'll get you out of here." "Thank you," The girl said looking up at him with liquid blue eyes. Taking her hand Rex followed Sanjuro back outside. They hurried back to where they had hidden their bikes. The girl turned her back as Rex and Sanjuro changed back into normal cloths. The girl got on behind Rex, and they headed back toward the city. After a few minutes they noticed a large number of dark cars moving towards the mountains. Once they reached the out skirts of the city the two men nodded to one another and went off in seperate directions. "Any where I can drop you off?" Rex asked the girl. "No, I need to contact my superiors. Do you have a secure line?" "At my apartment, we'll be there in a few minutes." They finally pulled in front of Rex's building. They rode the elevator up in silence. Rex opened the door and let the girl inside. He dropped his bag and watched her make her phone call. He couldn't deny she was beautiful. She had long hazel hair that framed her face perfectly. "Well what did they say?" He asked once she was done on the phone. "They told me to sit tight for now. You don't mind if I stay here do you?" "I suppose, I've got more than enough room. Whats your name by the way." "Its Noe Ayame, what about you? Or is it against the rules for ANBU to give out their names." Ayame asked with a smile. "No its not, we just don't get the opportunity to tell our names very often. My name is Uzama Tomi." |

Chapter 5 Tomi adjusted his pillow and rolled over. He wondered what tomorrow would bring before drifting back into sleep. His dreams took him back to his childhood home. A small house on the northern island, a small village that served as the clans secret home. He used to love the smell of the cherry blossom tree in the mornings. His mother making breakfast and his father reading the newspaper. It was one of the most peaceful times of his life. Hiw mother worked in the hokage's office being groomed to serve as an elder one day. His father spent his days teaching Tomi everything he knew since he went on very few missions. His father was the toughest trainer he would ever have. Everyday he would teach him something new and would push him untill he had it mastered. By age fourteen he had skills that rivaled any ninja in the clan. It was then his father told him their families secret. "Tomi, our family carries a secret, one that frightens the entire clan. It is something passed down from our forefather." "What is it? I've never heard of it." Tomi asked. "It is something that is withheld untill the parent decides the child is capable of understanding and being responsible enough not to abuse what we have." "Is it really that serious?" "Serious enough that only us, the hokage and select clan leaders to know about. Our family founder had a demon within him and though he did not pass down the demon itself other things he did. The strength and increased chakra passed, as well as a few physical manifestations." After finishing he closed his eyes for a minute. Tomi was about to speak when his father's eyes snapped open. In place of his normal brown eyes were red cat eyes. "This is what happens when you hit an emotional high, be it anger or sadness. If you practice you can make them appear at will." As he spoke the eyes faded back to his normal ones. "But if thats all it is why do they hold so much fear for us?" "Because they believe that one day the monster will return and we will turn on the clan even though the demon died with our ancestor. Now you know our secret, never speak of it untill you yourself have a child." His father patted him on the head and walked away. That was the last time Tomi would ever see his father alive. A loud knock woke Tomi from his dreams. Putting on a shirt he opened the door to find a woman in a suit with glasses standing there. "Uzama Tomi?" she asked. "Yes." "You are needed at home. Sanjuro has already been summoned. Bring Noe Ayame with you also." "Understood." Tomi said as he shut the door and went to pack a bag. As he was packing he heard Ayame approaching from behind him. "We've been called back to the village, be ready to go in ten minutes. We'll stop and get you some cloths to change into on the way." He said. "Ok, do you know why they are calling us back?" She asked "No the messenger didn't say." He put one final item in his bag. "Ready to go?" "Yup" Ayame nodded. Tomi and Ayame left the apartment, Tomi locked the door behind them and they made their way down to the garage. Ayame raised an eyebrow as they walked past Tomi's motorcycle. "We're not taking the bike?" "No, thats a long ride to make on something like that, we're taking my car." As he finished speaking he pulled the cover off the car in front of them. There sat a deap blue muscle car with black stripes. "Wow I've never seen anything like this." Ayame exclaimed. "I had it imported from America. Its a 1972 SS Chevelle. We don't see alot of cars like this here so I can't normally drive it." Tomi said with a smile as he unlocked the doors and got in. After stopping and letting Ayame get a change of cloths they got on the high way heading north towars the clan's home. "Your parents still live there or did they move away?" Tomi asked to help pass the time. "Yes, they would never leave. They love it to much there. They never did go on alot of missions but they still help where ever they can. You might remember them." As she finished speaking she began to think back to her childhood. "Ayame its time to come in." Her mother called. Ayame made a face that only a ten year old girl could make. She wasn't ready to come in and she would make sure her mother knew it. She stormed into the kicten and put on her best pout face. "Mom I wasn't ready to come inside and you don't even have dinner done. Her mother looked at her sternly, "Dinner is almost ready and I told you that you needed to come in at four anyway. Now go wash up so you'll be ready to eat when your father gets home." As she was washing her hands she heard her father come in the front door. She quickly dried her hands and ran down the hall but stopped short of the kitchen when she heard her parents speaking in hushed tones. Though they were speaking in low voices Ayame was still able to make out what they were saying, it was a skill that would make her perfect for spy work later in life. "What happened?' She heard her mother ask. "Remember the group that was sent to take care of the pirate problem? Well they're back and only one survived and he'll probably lose his arm. Uzama Reyo was killed." "Oh no," her mother gasped," I should call Keko and make sure she's ok. What about their son, Tomi?" "He's tough for his age, Reyo taught him everything he knew. As I understand it he's getting ready to enter the ranks, he'll be fine. But we do need to help his mother out as much as we can." Ayame's thoughts went to her fiftenth birthday. The day she recieved the clan's tatoo on her arm and began serious training. She remembered looking at the crowd of ranking ninja who were over seeing the ceremony and noticing a familier face. A young man with red hair and pale green eyes which held a glint of sadness that had been there since the day his father died. Ayame's thoughts returned to the present as she looked over a Tomi. She could still see a small hint of that old sadness. She smiled and looked back out the window at the ovean of trees. As she drifted off into sleep she wanted nothing more than to be in Tomi's company. Tomi reached over and gave Ayame a gentle shake to wake her. "We're here. We have to go straight to the bosses office. Guess we'll have to wait to visit our families." Ayame wiped the sleep from her eyes and got out of the car,' Alright, hopefully this won't take to long." It was a short elevator ride to the bosses office, the secretary let them in. As they opened the door and stepped into the office Tomi saw Sanjuro already there. He gave a quick nod to Tomi and Ayame. "Uzama Tomi, Noe Ayame. I'm glad you're here, we have much to discuss." said the old man sitting behind the rooms desk. Tomi gave a polite bow showing full respect to the man in front of him. "We are ready to begin at your convience Hokage." |

Chapter 6 The hokage, the leader of the clan, looked so old and fragile but Sanjuro knew different. To become hokage you not only had to be a skilled ninja but incredibly wise. Something many thought they were but few really were. "Uzama Tomi, you look well, it is good you didn't let your father's death keep you from becoming the ninja you are. Is your mother excited about being made an elder." "The last time we spoke she was over joyed." Tomi said shortly, it was obvious he wasn't happy about the reference to his father. The hokage smiled and stroked his long white beard, "I see that my words have upset you. This was not my intention, I only meant it was good you did not succomb to greef as many do when someone close to them dies." Tomi only nodded Not trusting himself to seak. I can already see the red leaking into his eyes Sanjuro thought to himself remembering the first time he learned of Tomi's secret. "Sanjuro, you need to be careful of your friend, Uzama Tomi." His grandfather told him a year ago. "What are you talking about grandfather, I've known him for years. Theres nothing wrong with him, he's a skilled ninja." "I am not refering to him as a ninja, but of his family's history." Sanjuro raised an eyebrow," Go on," he said not sure he wanted to hear what his grandfather was going to say. "The Nara clan has been with Konoha from the very start. We're watched everything. The Uzama family has a dangerous history starting from the first one and filtering all the way down. Tomi is a powder keg, one spark could set him off and cause the destruction of everything. Do not ask me to explain exactly what it is that makes him this way, just know that if you see his eyes change you must kill him right away." Sanjuro was shocked but knew his duty to the clan was above all. He nodded to his grandfather and went on his way. Sanjuro's thoughts jumped violently back to the present, it was all he could do to keep from pulling a knife and attacking Tomi. But the red in his eyes had faded and he was calmly reporting on their last mission. "Well it sounds like you two did a fine job. And rescueing Noe Ayame, one of our finest spys, is quite the bonus." The hokage said before going into a coughing fit. Something is wrong, the hokage must be sick. I wonder what the reason he called us here really is Sanjuro thought. As if reading Sanjuro's mind the hokage spoke, "The real reason I called you here is because I have soemthing to tell you. I am dying, because of this I'm planning to retire from being hokage. Sanjuro the elders have voted for you to succed me. You are the pride of your family and would be perfect for the job." Sanjuro was shocked," I, um don't know what to say. I am honored that the elders think I'm worthy of the position." "They do and so do I, the ceremony will take place in a week. Now I come to you Uzama Tomi, what I will ask you will most likely seem like a gross insult but I beg you to hear me out." "I understand, I will listen completely."Tomi said cautiously. "Your family has had great influence in shaping the clan into what it is today. But many of the elders fear what your family holds inside. Though I do not share that fear I can understand where it comes from. Even with that in mind what I am going to ask you is still one of the toughest things I'm ever going to do." The hokage took a deep breath and rubbed his temples. Sanjuro could see concern on Tomi's face. Sanjuro was also wondering what was about to happen. "Tomi, I want you to leave the clan." The hokage said finally. Sanjuro was shocked, he had never anticipated this. But as he looked at Tomi he saw a man completely at peace with the request. The hokage spoke again, "I ask this because I worry some of the elders might try and attack you or something else. I can not risk that, which is why I have asked you what I have." Tomi spoke slowly, choosing his words with great care," I understand why you ask this of me and believe your reasons are in the best interest of not only the clan but of me also. My father always spoke highly of you which is why I will honor your request. I will leave with in the week, with hope we can all live in peace." Sanjuro watched Tomi turn and leave the room with Ayame close behind. He couldn't believe what was happening, things were taking an interesting turn. he quickly bowed to the hokage and followed them out. He needed to talk to Tomi. "Tomi wait" he called before Tomi and Ayame got into the elevator. " We need to talk." Tomi stopped and looked back at Sanjuro," Not much to talk about." "Look at least stay long enough to be present at the ceremony." "I can't, besides I don't think many people would be happy to see me that." Tomi stepped into the elevator, "Don't worry, I'm sure we'll meet again some day." The doors shut leaving Sanjuro standing alone, it would be five years before they would meet again. Riding the elevator down Tomi looked over at Ayame to find she was already looking at him. "Ayame, this may seem a bit sudden but I would like for you to come with me." Ayame smiled, "I was hoping you would ask me, nothing would make me happier." She reached over and took his hand. Moving closer she laid her head on her shoulder. Maybe things would turn out good after all Tomi thought |

Chapter 7 Uzama Tomi stood on the limb of a tree over looking the yard of a small house. A walk way was lined with brightly colored flowers that swayed in the mountain air. Tomi looked at the brick home and smiled, loving the way the deep red of the brick was accented by the forest green of the shutters that framed each window. The smell of something being made fresh drifted by Tomi's nose causing his mouth to water. But the food would have to wait there was something left to be done. He scanned the tree line to his left. He finally caught sight of what he was looking for. A small girl of about five years of age. She had red hair she wore long like her mother and her father's green eyes were visible even from where Tomi was. He smiled at the sight of his daughter being as sneaky as she could. She's learning quickly Tomi thought with a great sense of pride, Well time to suprise her. Tomie disappeared off his perch and landed silently behind his daughter. He leaned in close to her ear, " I found you Mitsukai." His daughter shrieked and jumped forward out of the tree line. Tomi chuckled and stepped out on to the lawn behind her. "You scared me pap." She said with her bottom lip trembling. "I'm sorry sweatheart, but every time it happens you won't get as scared the next time. Thats enough training for today, lets head inside, your mother almost has dinner done." Mitsukai turned and skipped inside the house with Tomi following behind her. "Hey mommy, is dinner almost ready?" Mitsukai asked as she bounced up and down in the kitchen. Ayame smiled down at her, "Yes honey almost, go wash your hands so you'll be ready when it is." Mitsukai skipped down the hall to comply with her mother. Tomi walked into the kitchen and gave his wife a long kiss. "How did training go this afternoon?" Ayame asked after they parted. "It went well she's learning alot very quickly. Within a few years she'll be as skilled as many twice her age." Tomi said as he leaned against the counter. "I don't doubt it, I was looking for something to light some candles yeasterday and before I could Mitsukai lit them with a fireball." "Amazing, she was having trouble with that technique a few days ago." Tomi said beaming with fatherly pride. Ayame punched him in the arm, " You told me you wouldn't teach her anything like that untill she was older." "I know I'm sorry that was the only one I promise. Oh and I'm going into town to meet with my mom tonight after dinner. But something seemed off so I'd like for you and Mitsukai to stay here." "I understand, but please promise me you'll be careful." Ayame said with a serious fave. Tomi nodded and looked into her deep blue eye, "I promise." ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After finishing dinner Tomi walked to the door followed closely by his wife and daughter. "How long will you be gone papa?" Mitsukai asked with a huskiness that suggested she was ready to cry. Tomi knelt beside his daughter and kissed her freckled cheek, "I'll be back before you know it." "Promise?" she asked holding out her pinky. "Promise." Tomi said with a smile as he locked his pinky with hers. Standing he kissed his wife and headed for the city. After an hour of travel he arrived at the usual spot he and his mother met at. He instantly felt ill at ease. Looking around people were walking around as though they were in a daze. Alarms went off in Tomi's head as an individual in a mask stepped from a crowd followed closely by two more individuals in mask. A hit team, they most likely have genjutsu teams in place to make sure noone notices what happens he thought. "You are Uzama Tomi are you not?" asked the first man with supreme confidence. "I am and I see you bare the konoha clan mark on your arm. May I ask what you need." Tomi asked hoping to resolve this situation without the need for a fight. "The hokage has decided you are a risk to the clan, we've been tasked with your removal." "What are you talking about? I've been living peacefully with my family for years." As he spoke the answer hit him like a tidal wave against the shore. "Oh no!" He turned to leave but his path was blocked by three more ANBU agents. He could feel the fear and anger rising inside him, he felt his eyes changing to his families red cat eyes and saw the ANBU aganets take a step back as they noticed the change also. "Move, I don't want to kill you." Tomi oredered, but for an answer the six agents attacked as one. Tomi felt as though everything had slowed down. His attackers looked as though there were moving through water. He moved, sliding between his attackers, striking them before they could try to defend themselves. With in moments all six men were dead at Tomi's feet. Tomi moved with a speed he never knew he had. he prayed that he would make it home in time but a cold stone of fear dropped in his stomach as he ran to the front of the house to find the front door standing open. Before he could enter the house he was attacked. He dove to his right as two kunai hit the ground where he had just been. He quickly realized his new opponent was more skilled than the last six as he was pushed back by a relentless attack.. he dove away to try and gain some manuvering room but the moment he got a few feet away the attacking ANBU agent used a water techniqu. Before the oncoming missle of water hit Tomi created a clone and disappeared. The ANBU froze in shock, the pause would cost him dearly. From the ground below him Tomi's clone burst free and caught the agent in a bear hug locking him in place. Tomi dropped in front of the trapped agent and formed familiar hand signs. breathing deep he blew a fireball that consumed the agent and burned him to nothing. Tomi, now sure he was alone, ran into the house and stopped before entering the living room. In the middle of the floor he saw the forms of his wife and daughter lying still in a pool of blood. He staggered forward a few steps before falling to his knees. Tears streamed down his cheeks. He let out a scream that echo'd through the mountains. Far away Nara Sanjuro, hokage of the Konoha Clan, felt a cold chill move down his spine. |

Chapter 8 Sanjuro walked through the garden located a short distance away from the small town that was home to the konoha clan. He mad his way to his usual spot at the side of a small pool. He always found comfort there, staring into the blue water and watching the lilys float. He needed that comfort now, the pain from making the decisions he had been forced to make ate at his soul. On the advice of some of the elders he had given the order for ANBU to kill Uzama Tomi and his family, even his mother. It wasn't something he had wanted to do, but it had been neccesary. A wave of cold swept over him like a mourning mist. It was the strongest intent to kill he had ever felt and he was the focus point of it all. He spoke without turning, "It has been many years since someone has wanted me dead as much as you do Tomi." "I'm willing to bet they didn't have the same reasons to want to you dead like I do." Sanjuro's ears perked as Tomi spoke, something was odd about his voice. It was the same voice, but it sounded like he was growling at the same time. Turning Sanjuro felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. Looking into Tomi's eyes was like looking into the gates of hell. His normally green eyes were replaced by fiery red cat eyes that burned with the need to kill. Thats what's different, Sanjuro thought, He doesn't want me dead he needs me dead. "Before I kill you tell me why? Why did my little girl have to die?" Tomi asked. Sanjuro chose his words carefully, "It was decided that we couldn't risk her or you coming to attack the clan." "Thats insane, how long have you known me. You know my loyalty was to the clan. What happens now happens because of what you did." "What do you mean what I did?" Sanjuro asked." You coming here confirmed what I thought." "How foolish you've become since you become hokage." Tomi said with a growl, "You would have never seen me again, but no, you murdered my family. Now you pay the price." Sanjuro held up his hand,"Wait, I can give you imformation on what it is your ancestor had." Tomi laughed,"Let me show you what it is you think you know." Tomi took out a kunai and cut both of his palms. The blood flowed through his fingers as he quickly formed seals before slamming his hands into the ground. Sanjuro put his hand in front of his eyes as a blast of wind and smoke flew at him. He heard a growl that shook his bones. Peering through his fingers he gasp in shock at what he saw. Towering over him was a red fox with nine tails. On top of its head stood Tomi with his arms crossed. "This fox is what you feared, not me." Tomi yelled from where he stood." And now that you have seen it you will feel the pain that I have felt, I will destroy all you love." With that the fox turned and begane moving toward the town. Sanjuro tried to jump on the fox's back but was hit by one of hits tails and sent flying deep into the forest. before he blacked out he already heard the screams. |

Chapter 9-Final Tomi sat on the rubble of the hokage building looking into the sky. He should have felt horrible for wiping out the town but it felt right at this moment, he smiled to himself. It felt good to have returned the favor to the man who had once been his friend. Hearing a noise he looked down at the rubble strewn street to see a lone figure walking toward him. Tomi felt a smile form on his face, "So Sanjuro how does it feel to see all you held dear destroywed?" "You're a monster." Sanjuro stamered. "If I am it is because of what you did to me." Tomi sneered as he stood. "Then I shall finish the job, " Sanjuro yelled as he tore off his jacket revealing a tank top and jeans beneith. Tomi's eyes went wide as he watched the tatoos on Sanjuro's body come alive. "Well Sanjuro, it seems you have some interesting tricks left after all." Sanjuro formed a seal and the shadow tatoos formed into four spikes and charged at Tomi. The four spikes impaled TOmi's chest but he didn't seem hurt. His body dissolved from around the spikes. The spikes moved back to hover above Sanjuro. "Rumors of your speed were wide spread but I doubted their truth untill this moment." Sanjuro said begrudgingly. Tomi smiled and looked back at Sanjuro, "Don't sound so angry, just relax and you might enhoy yourself before you die." Tomi began circling Sanjuro using his speed to keep the shadow spikes from hitting him. He threw kunai at different times to keep Sanjuro on his toes. Each time a shadow spike blocked the knifes from hitting their master. Suddenly Tomi stopped and charged at Sanjuro. Drawing his sword he swept past him, the two stood almost back to back after Tomi went by. Tomi sagged to one knee holding his side. A stab wound appeared in both his side and left arm. Damn those spikes are deadlier than I figured they would be, I need a way to get around them. As he thought it the idea popped into his head. He worked quickly creating a group of clones. Three of the clones charged and were impaled quickly. Before the smoke from them had cleared three more clones jumped high over head and readied kunai. Before they could throw their knives they were also hit. Using this small opening Tomi closed in an instant and slashed Sanjuro across his right thigh and chest. Sanjuro jumped back and almost fell to the ground due to the cut on his leg. "Neat trick, but tricks won't save you for long." Sanjuro said through his teeth. "Perhaps, but I've already accepted death. I do not fear it, killing you is all I have left to live for." Sanjuro pulled a kunai free and charged Tomi. The two came together with a clang of steel as the blades met. Each time they came together a new wound appeared on both men. Finally they stopped panting, covered in a scarlett blanket of their own blood. Tomi took a deep breath and blew a fireball at Sanjuro using up the last bit of his chakra. At the same time Sanjuro shot a lightning bolt from his hand also using up the last of his chakra reserves. The two blast hit and exploded. As the smoke cleared both men looked at each other, wavering and trying not to fall. "Not much left in you is there Sanjuro?" Sanjuro spit, "No but I doubt you have much left either." "Final move then?" Sanjuro nodded. Both men stared at each other but neither moved for many long minutes. Then in a final burst of speed both men passed each other and slid to a stop. Sanjuro took another uneasy step before collasping to the ground. Tomi smiled," Good bye Sanjuro." He coughed and felt bllod begin to flow down his chin. He fell over backwards landing in the dust and rubble of the konoha clan. As Tomi stared at into the sky tears began to flow from his eyes. "I'm coming Matsukai........Aya..me." Tomi whispered as he died. |
