Y'know, one of the fun parts of playing Requiem is the fact you can play a bad person. Now, you could just play a bad person trying to be good, trying to reform. You can play a bad person who's just out for themselves and in it to win it. And then you can be one of those people who fill those clan books who are just ... well, they blow off steam once a year by killing lots of people, or they drug someone and strip them off and tweak bits just to show they can, or they feed and empty out their vessels in special audiences and then bury the bodies.

Y'know, evil.

Trouble is, and perhaps this is from our history in D&D days, or just the civilian idea of evil but generally, when a person is thinking of playing evil ... there is a temptation to just be a dick. To do the Chaotic Evil thing. Justification? Who needs that? I will attack and all and de-stabilize everything and throw off the game because my character is evil.

Err, no, a lot of kindred are meant to be evil. Most of them aren't game-breaking. But there is that temptation. It's enshrined in the Chaotic Evil mind-set which is unfortunately let about roaming the streets and doing what you want and taking down a few people and ends up being seeing how game breaking the actions can get. I've had the temptation. I've certainly seen it.

To look at decent evil, look at our recent contingent of Brood. Now, unfortunately, you shouldn't have to be Brood to be evil but this is our best examples. Brood and near Brood.

The Wyrm was Chaotic Evil. He had his opinions and they didn't make sense to anyone else. I mean, they were rooted in something. There was internal consistency there. But generally, when he did his bad things ... most people wouldn't know about it. He felt no need to run naked through the court and shoot people with his flame thrower or anything. He was quiet, cold evil.

The Doctor was more of a Neutral Evil type. Now this should be fairly common among kindred. Nothing mattered. Therefore, everything went so long as it wasn't stupid. And I don't mean foolish, every character should be foolish sometimes, that's just being a person, and the Doctor could be foolish. But he wasn't dick-slapping-the-prince-with-vigor evil.

So yeah, just saying ... I've seen a lot of cruddy evil in my time and heard about even more.

Remember, you can play evil without being a wanker.

So now, go my pretties ... go and do your evil acts ... but don't destabilize the game by destabilising canon by dick slapping the prince with vigor because you happened to tweak your sheet.

Or I will eat you.

Not your character.

You.
