Well, reading the clan books have made a few things more apparent to me. Most vampires don't dream. On occasion they might dream, but normally they don't during the daytime. Not even nightmares. When they do dream, it's more likely to be intense nightmares and not of the coherent kind. When in torpor, they do have slivers of dreams but it's more like memories getting warped and re-playing before their very eyes. Torpor rattles the mind pretty quickly and thoroughly. It's almost like someone hitting the re-set button. Within 150 years, you probably won't know your own name. At least, not judging by the clan books. Elders are scary. They don't think like people do. Vampires' breath stinks like dead blood. Nice.... |

I haven't actually read the Mekhet book apart from the Appendix. Is good? It doesn't seem to get a lot of mention, but I really liked the Ventrue book. Probably in part because I'm a Ventrue fanboy, but I also liked the exploration of alternative methods of 'Lordship'. Like the trailer trash guy. Though the Rat King seemed a bit meh. |

The Rat King was more to show how no matter what, the Ventrue try to be Lords. Mekhet book was really good, yeah. Our Mekhet players, I'm pleased to say, have the idea fairly well in mind. Can't be too sure until they skirt a possible spotlight. Daeva book is still meh. Doesn't really say much about Clan Daeva or good techniques, etc. Most of the stories are pretty crappy. The only good one was the one about the ghoul. Ventrue book was pretty cool, yeah. Oh yeah, by the way, how to play low humanity and/or age (or make people believe you are either): When he talks, he doesn’t move. No gesticulations, here. A lot of people, they shift and squirm: "eyebrows up, hands like butterflies or birds, tongue licking lips in a moment of thought. Not him. It’s all business. Icy. Still. An unblinking stare that looks right in your eyes and never looks away." I mean, obviously you'll blink but cutting down on your other gestures is a really neat trick if you want to play someone scary. It forces people to listen to your words, really listen, because you're not going to make it easy for people to just read your body language. It's just scary in a self-controlled way that Dodd and Pockets will never achieve (though if Dodd dropped enough to be near-motionless, I'd be scared.....) |

*laughs* Yeah, if Checkers goes still you know he's stopped caring about humanity, in which case shit has hit the fan badly. I haven't read all the books yet. Daeva was kind of meh, Gangrel (what I've read of it so far) is looking interesting. I've skimmed through Mekhet and that wasn't too bad. Haven't read Ventrue or Nosferatu yet. Honestly the Covenant books look like they've had more care and effort put into them, while the Clan books were just kind of put out there to make the set complete. |

The clan books are visually very well-done, I think. They're basically vehicles for clan-themed fluff, though, whereas the covenant books are a lot meatier. I'm glad that they didn't take the same approach with covenant books as they did with the clan ones, but considering the relative unimportance of clan it's not a bad way to go about it. Tl;dr, the clan books are well-done, and worthwhile, just have been written with a different design philosophy. |

Hmm, I dunno, the Ventrue fluff was awesome and really underligned the Ventrue mind-set. The Daeva one more underlined the ghoul mind-set. |
