I Knew You Were Trouble When You Walked In

Kayla had never been inside the club part of 21, only the bar. So far, she had found it loud and obnoxious. Drunk, sweaty people grinding on each other. She checked her watch. His text said 8. If he didn't show, at least she'd have fun with Ben and Damien. She never thought hanging out with vampires would be a silver lining.

Ambrose was generous enough to give her the dresses she had worn in the photoshoot. Apparently, she had boosted sales, but Kayla didn't think she had much to do with that. She had picked the blue one. Feeling out of place, she went to the bar and ordered a drink, praying this wasn't a mistake and she'd actually have fun. She wanted to have fun.

Phillip pried his way through the crowd. The place was insane tonight, and he loved it.

"Kayla," he yelled out, grabbing her attention. He smiled as he made his way up to her. He couldn't help but check her out. She looked beautiful in the dress. The blue complimented her.

"You look stunning."

Kayla spotted him and waited for him to come to her. He did look handsome, but that wasn't the problem.

"Thanks. You look nice. This place is crazy."

"Isn't it?" He looked around, taking in the scene again.

"Do you want a drink?" He turned back to her.

"Yeah," Kayla raised her eyebrows and clutched her purse.

She nodded she would need one. "That sounds great."

"Good," Phillip smiled. He moved forward, grabbing her hand.

"Don't let go," he gave her a wink, as he began to move through the crowd.

Kayla sighed. She was tall, she could see through the crowd without his help. It was really the wink that put her off.

"I'm good," she pulled her hand back and followed him to the bar.

"Vodka, just vodka," she told the bartender. She had really wanted dinner or something nice. He had badgered her so long for this date and he was rich. Maybe she shouldn't have expected anything else. She had never really done the club thing, but she was skeptical.

She got the vodka and drank some of it. She sighed, putting the glass back down. She was supposed to give this a chance.

"So is this one of the better clubs in Chicago?"

Phillip looked back as she removed her hand from his. He didn't mean the gesture of her holding her hand to mean anything, it was just something he always did with girls. He moved forward not letting himself worry about it.

"And uh can I get a Black Russian? Thanks," he ordered after Kayla.

He leaned against the bar, facing Kayla, after getting his order.

"Yeah, you could say that," he took a quick sip of his drink.

"It is more one of my regular spots. Used to go to Inferno, but don't like it as much since it changed hands. What about you?" She didn't take him for the clubbing type, but everything he expected about her never seemed to be true.

Kayla raised her eyebrows. She knew exactly why it changed hands. "Well, my dad's not really the best club owner."

She scoffed. "Hell no."

"Your dad owns the club?" Phillip raised his brow. He never heard of a lawyer being a club owner.

"That's what I thought," he laughed into his drink, taking another sip.

"So what does Kayla Sherman like to do for fun?"

"Anything to make money. He doesn't run it or anything, but he got it for a steal or so he says," Kayla pursed her lips.

"You got one right," she gave him a thumbs up.

"Lots of wild sex," she looked at him without batting an eyelash. She brought her drink to her lips and tilted it back into her mouth.

"Playing and making music. Writing. Being with my friends. The usual Facebook info. You?" she could've added hurting vampires, but she didn't want him to know that much.

Phillip choked on his drink. It took him a moment to stop coughing, a chuckle escaping his lips in between coughs.

"You had me for a second," he laughed, putting down his glass.

"I like to travel a lot. There are some great clubs back in the U.K. that I try to hit when I go there. Oh, and I love to go boating. I bought this beautiful Ferretti. She is an Italian beauty and moves so great on the water."

Kayla smirked, proudly. "That was the idea."

"So rich people stuff? Must be nice," she laughed. She sipped more of her vodka.

"I have money," Phillip shrugged. "I'm not going to pretend like I don't."

He dabbed his fingers on the surface of his drink, playing with the ice.

"I would like to take you out on my boat. I think you'd quite enjoy it."

"I didn't ask you to," Kayla gave him a look.

"I don't know if that's the best idea."
