Characters Name: James Marshall Characters Age: 23 Gender: Male Home Region: Kanto Badges: Rainbow, Cascade, Marsh Character Physical Description: Just under 6 feet tall, James has a fairly athletic build. His messy, light brown hair falls to just above his shoulders, and he makes a futile attempt to keep it in check with a black headband. He wears a white t-shirt with regular blue-jeans, and over top he wears a black coat falling a bit past his knees. His left arm is bandaged from just below the elbow to the wrist, and he actively avoids contact with the area. ![]() ![]() Personality: Often sarcastic, but generally friendly, he tries his best to be helpful, but tends to shy away tough physical labor (well, when it's not his idea, at least). His tendency to mask displeasure and anger makes it tough to tell when he's upset, which often leads to unexpected confrontations. He takes things as they come, and tends to laugh off things that would severely offend others. As a result, he sometimes forgets that not everyone is quite as thick-skinned as he is. Bio: Originally from Celadon, James' journey as a trainer began at a rather typical age, starting with a Houndour caught in the wilderness on the outskirts of the city. As he travelled, and his team grew, both in numbers and in strength, he was very dedicated to training them and becoming the strongest trainer he could be, but more than anything he simply enjoyed the journey itself, travelling the land, exploring interesting new places, and seeing new things. Collecting badges truthfully meant very little to him. His encounters with various criminal groups through his journey (notably Team Rocket) left him with a deep-seated hatred for Team Rocket, and what he viewed as their imitators. He also developped a much less serious, but nonetheless burning hatred for Pikachu, choosing to refer to it simply as "the rat", largely due to its irritating popularity, but also due to a few rather unfortunate incidents involving wild specimens, as well as a few trained ones. One such example was one wild Pikachu in particular that ended up with a pair of very nice shades, of which James was very fond. He took the theft very personally, and had tried to chase after it, but lost it in the woods. Another such incident involved a severe blast from the past. James' own mother had owned a Pikachu as a pet when James was a child, and it had never liked him in the slightest. Its favorite prank had been to run up to James and "hug" his leg, only to then deliver a harmless, but painful electric shock. When he encountered it in battle, years later, it wasn't until it did exactly that afterwards that his suspicions were confirmed, rubbing salt in the wound of the defeat it had just handed him. Apparently, its new trainer had been passing through Celadon, and had ended up saving its life, though from what James didn't think to ask. "Peaky" left with the trainer afterwards, with James' mother's blessing. James returned to Celadon to visit home soon after this event, the otherwise unwelcome encounter with "Peaky" having made him homesick. As he was nearing home, he encountered a small pack of Houndour led by a Houndoom. Cerberus, who had been walking alongside James as he often did, recognised the Houndoom, and ran to meet it. Cerberus was met warmly, but the wild Houndoom quickly turned a cruel gaze to James, and let loose with a Flamethrower. Quick reflexes saved James, but his left arm was burnt nonetheless. Cerberus jumped between them, defending his trainer from his angry sibling. The wild houndoom had been Cerberus' brother, as it turned out, and resented James for separating them. A battle ensued between the two, with Cerberus emerging victorious, allowing James to escape safely to recieve treatment for his arm, and to visit home. Soon after though, he returned to the road, unable to sit still for long. Pokemon Details: Cerberus, the Houndoom. He is rather quick-tempered, and ever eager for a fight to prove his strength. Cerberus was James' first Pokemon, and thus one of his oldest companions. Extremely protective of James, and is usually walking alongside him, rather than riding in his pokeball. Encountered: Cerberus was met as a Houndour at the very beginning of James' journey. It was the first pokemon he ever caught, but James did not realize that this Houndour had a brother - a fact that would come back to bite him in the rear several years later. Evolution: In a battle just off the north entrance of Cycling Road, west of Celadon, James was battling a trainer with several poison-type Pokemon. Upon narrowly defeating the trainer’s Arbok, Cerberus evolved into a Houndoom, and proceeded to easily defeat a Koffing to finish the battle. Nature: Rash Moves: Smog, Leer, Odor Sleuth, Faint Attack, Flamethrower, Crunch, Nasty Plot, Sunny Day, Solarbeam, Dark Pulse Magus, the Arcanine. Proud, and holds a strong rivalry with Sabellian the Charizard, though it has gone from actual dislike to a more friendly rivalry. It is quick to take offense to a perceived slight, or insult to its strength. Encountered: Just east of Saffron City, this lone Growlithe approached James, desiring to battle and throw James out of its territory. James battled with Cerberus, and captured the Growlithe to become his second Pokemon. Evolved: While traveling through the National Park north of Goldenrod City, James was approached by a ragged-looking Growlithe that seemed upset. Though he’d planned to send out someone else, Sabellian, still a Charmeleon, emerged from his Pokeball on his own. The battle was brief, as the Growlithe was weak from exhaustion, but James began to realize due to the animosity between it and Sabellian that something was up, and carried it to the nearest Pokemon Center. While there, James finally recognized Magus, and realized that the poor thing must have been abandoned by the trainer he’d been traded to, making James fume, both at the trainer, and at himself for ever trading Magus away. With James begging for forgiveness, Magus rejoined the team, though for some time held a strong dislike for Sabellian. As an extra apology, James pulled out the Fire Stone he still had from when he offered Kitsul and Kao their choice of evolutions, and Magus accepted happily, simply happy to be back with a trainer who cared for it, evolving into Arcanine. Nature: Rash Moves: Thunder Fang, Fire Fang, Extremespeed, Double Team, Flamethrower, Giga Impact, Agility, Takedown Shade, the Crobat Encountered: Evolved: Moves; Supersonic, Astonish, Wing attack, Aerial Ace, Air Cutter, Poison Fang, Double Team Jaeger, the Scizor Encountered: Evolved: Moves: Bullet Punch, Quick Attack, Focus Energy, False Swipe, Agility, Metal Claw, Iron Defense, X-Scissor, Swords Dance, Virul, the Muk Encountered: Evolved: Moves: Poison Gas, Mud bomb, Minimize, Sludge Bomb, Acid Armor, Focus Punch, Giga Impact, Poison Jab Sabellian, the Charizard, is prideful and protective, and is one of James' most powerful and reliable Pokemon. Difficult to rile, Sabellian is very patient, until his friends are threatened, at which point he becomes a terrifying engine of devastation, throwing the full force of his power at the offender. Encountered: Sabellian was encountered as a Charmeleon owned by another trainer, but it was unruly, and disliked the trainer, feeling them incompetent and a poor sport. James battled this trainer, and despite a feeble attempt to cheat by distracting James' pokemon, he emerged victorious, and impressed the Charmeleon with his and his Pokemon's skill and strength. James, meanwhile, was also impressed with the Charmeleon, as it had put up a spectacular fight. It was a tough decision, but eventually a trade was made, the Charmeleon for a Growlithe owned by James at the time. Nature: Docile Moves: Dragon Claw, Smokescreen, Slash, Wing Attack, Flamethrower, Iron Tail, Dragon Pulse, Overheat Kitsul, the Jolteon. Kitsul is highly curious, always eager to investigate something new, though one would think he might've learned to show some caution after a few years. Tends to let off a mild electric shock (little more than a little static spark like one might recieve from a doorknob) when mildly irritated. Encountered: Kitsul and Kao are orphaned siblings that had been staying at a secluded place which took in and cared for such Pokemon. While wandering nearby, the two found themselves cornered by a larger, fierce wild Pokemon when James intervened. In thanks, the woman who cared for them suggested that they go with him, to see the world outside her little section of woods, and to become stronger. The two have been travelling with James ever since, and have become a formidable duo. Nature: Naughty Moves; Sand Attack, Thunderbolt, Quick Attack, Double Kick, Pin Missile, Thunder Wave, Agility, Double Team, Kao, the Espeon. Kao tends to be relaxed to the point of lazy, though she is ever aware of her surroundings. Cerberus and Kitsul often make a game of trying to sneak up on her when she seems asleep, though it's more of a competition to see how close they can get before she turns to stare at them. Encountered: Kao joined James alongside Kitsul, her brother. Eventually, James decided the time had come to make a decision, but rather than make it himself, he placed the decision in the paws of Kitsul and Kao - he set before the two of them a Thunderstone, a Water stone, and a Fire stone, and told them that it was their choice to make or not as they wished. After some consideration, Kitsul chose the Thunderstone. Kao, however, merely walked back to James, and lay down next to him. She evolved into Espeon the very next day. Nature: Relaxed Moves; Sand Attack, Quick Attack, Psybeam, Psychic, Swift, Morning Sun, Future Sight, Double Team Aviana, the Pidgeot Encountered: Evolved: Moves; Sand Attack, Whirlwind, Quick Attack, Featherdance, Agility, Wing Attack, Roost, Aerial Ace, Razor, the Skarmory Encountered: Evolved: Moves: Drill Peck, Swift, Fury Attack, Spikes, Steel Wing, Air Slash, Night Slash, Agility Mallus, the Gyarados Encountered: Evolved: Moves: Bite, Dragon Rage, Twister, Ice Fang, Aqua Tail, Hydro Pump, Dragon Dance, Hyper Beam Prophet, the Absol Encountered: Evolved: Moves: Taunt, Quick Attack, Razor Wind, Swords Dance, Double Team, Future Sight, Night Slash, Detect, Psycho Cut Silverbolt, the Staraptor Encountered: Evolved: Moves: Quick Attack, Wing attack, Aerial Ace, Close Combat, Brave Bird, Agility, Facade Splinter, the Lucario Encountered: Evolved: Dark Pulse, Quick Attack, Detect, Counter, Force Palm, Aura Sphere, Dragon Pulse, Extremespeed, Iron Tail, Poison Jab Locker, the Lapras. Locker tends to mirror Kao's attitude, merely preferring to spend free time relaxing lazily. She tends to sing softly to no one in particular when particularly relaxed and content. Kao can frequently be seen snoozing on Locker's back. Encountered: James met Locker near the shores of Sinnoh. Unaccustomed to sea battles, James was initially unable to capture the rare Lapras, having only Silverbolt, a Staraptor he had captured and trained within Sinnoh during the 3 years he spent there training, available to battle on the water. Some time later, he encountered the very same Lapras being targetted by Team Galactic. With Silverbolt's help, the Lapras was able to drive them off, and then gave James another chance to battle it and attempt to capture it. He succeeded. Nature: Relaxed Moves: Sing, Mist, Confuse Ray, Body Slam, Ice Beam, Hydro Pump, Safeguard, Thunderbolt Red Hare, the Rapidash. Named for a horse from Ancient China, Red Hare, like many Rapidash, simply loves to run and race. He often wears a saddle as James tends to use him as a means of transportation, allowing him to travel distances faster, and to allow Red Hare to run as he so loves to do. Encountered: Red Hare is the most recent capture among the current members of James' team. Encountered in the wilds of Johto, James was inspired by the Pokemon's raw speed and strength, and remembered fondly the races his mother would watch when he was young - a particular trainer riding a Rapidash was the frequent victor and James' favorite racer. Rather than battle immediately, the Rapidash took off at a run, apparently challenging James to first catch up to it. Climbing onto Silverbolt, James took off after it, eventually catching up. Upon realizing its speed had been bested, James proceeded to defeat it in battle, and capture it. Nature: Hasty Moves: Megahorn, Quick attack, Stomp, Fire Spin, Fire Blast, Agility, Fury Attack, Bounce, Flare Blitz Sable, the Charmander Fenris, the Houndour Edited by Blazethesage, Jul 5 2011, 04:41 PM.
