Ok, so we had a few games with this Telepathy Primaris power and it seems a bit too potent in KT, either against powerful targets or blobs of infantry. PSYCHIC SHRIEK - Warp Charge 1 The psyker breathes in deeply the power of the Warp before emitting a banshee howl of psychic energy that shreds the minds of his enemies. Psychic Shriek is a witchfire power with a range of 18". Roll 3D6 and subtract the target’s Leadership – the target unit suffers a number of Wounds equal to the result. Armour and cover saves cannot be taken against Wounds caused by Psychic Shriek. Here goes the quote from KT rules regarding unit-targeted casts: "Psychic powers that target a ‘unit’ have an area effect of 3” around the target model. " So basically we have both a very decent AOE and single target spell here. Yeah, it's somewhat random, but my Knight Master with Ld 9 got 4 wounds to save after first cast and only his 3++ invul saved him, the second time he got 2 wounds and failed both invul saves. The spell is easy to cast, not so easy to Deny if you don't have relics or your own psyker, and armour and cover cannot protect you against it. So we had a Librarian standing behind a building, moving in his Movement phase, casting this stuff at the closest enemy in Psychic phase, and then returning by Running in Shooting phase, so that the enemy shooters couldn't get him on their turn. Next time he's gonna be on a bike. Wonder what that'll bring. What do you think about it? |

I know this thread is a bit old but I had it pointed out to me the other day that Psychic Shriek is a witchfire power, and thus needs to roll To-Hit. Not that To-Hit is a big problem for the Librarian but it's still a 1/3 chance to miss entirely, and it seems common to forget that part of PS since it doesn't have a normal weapon-style profile. It's just a wildly variable power - sometimes it will wipe a whole unit, other times it'll careen off and you'll have manifested for nothing. |
