We have been playing campaign for a few matches now, and we have had 3 rolls for "lad's got talent" for a few core guys. After following all of the other rules, we have been confused on two items my group is hoping to clear up. 1.) Which segment does the newly promoted character go. He is considered a Specialist that doesn't eat into the Specialist limit. Does that mean he is still counted towards the Core unit maximum number of units for his army, or does he become something else? Does he get counted at all? 2.) When the core trooper gets promoted, does he retain his current level of experience, or does he start over at level one with his one skill he acquired for "vetting up?" |

Lads got talent? Are you using the Herald of Ruin or the official GW version? |

He might be referring to the old rule for AM in HoR KT where a model could be promoted. This can still happen, but its under 'Veteran Promotion' now, and works somewhat differently. To the OP: The most up-to-date version of the AM KT minicodex is 3.0a, so might be part of the issue. Since you mentioned experience, it sounds like you're using the older set of KT rules (which I don't have on me at the moment). If this was intentional, then disregard anything else I say (as it only applies to the newer ruleset), but if not; as per the Veteran Promotion rule - "During a campaign you (the team’s Commander) have the ability to promote models to a higher rank: For every three Battle Honours a Guardsmen Squad or Veteran Squad receives you may ‘promote’ a single model from that Squad. The promoted model leaves the Squad and becomes a single Special model in all respects (losing the Squad special rule), keeping any Battle Honours and wargear he has. The model cannot take further Squad options, but may take items from the Melee Weapons and Ranged Weapons lists and items from the Astra Militarum Armoury. You may buy a replacement member for the Squad the model left as normal." This would suggest the new model counts towards Special Model capacity, but retains Battle Honours/Wargear, which lets you replace him in the squad (gaining another person with those Battle Honours) and potentially boost your number of special weapons if you promote the special weapon holder, then buy a new one for the squad he left. |
