Tau in a Campaign; Trying to figure out my 250 points

Hi all,

I am new to the forums, GM games and Kill team. I picked up a random assortment of Tau and I am getting a few more. Anyways When you are starting off with your 250 points for a campaign is better to try and squeeze troops in or upgrade your troops? I could take ten Fire warriors with Grenades and bonding ritual for 120, 12 with just bonding ritual for the same or 13 with nothing for 117? Also should I take drone team for 36 or 7 kroot for the same cost or 6 kroot with Snipe? The background for my team is a crash landing. I am only taking one Basic Crisis suit and then the rest infantry. We are playing a story Campaign so it is not about dominating the field it is more about having fun.
Anyways any advice would be great.

Cheers,

Daniel

EMP grenades won't really see much activity early in a campaign, as it costs quite a lot to gather the resources to purchase one. The Bonding Knife would still be okay.
Now, on the second team, I'd probably take Kroot, probably with Snipers to give proper long-range support. Leave the drones for when you get points for your leader to buy those drones without taking up a slot.

Hey Irishrover! Welcome to the boards.

It's really up to you, of course. I can't say that either is a bad option; you seem to have a pretty solid grasp on things from your suggested list. However, I would be a bit wary of the lack of a heavy weapon on your team. Your campaign and opponent(s) may be different, but I tend to see a lot of heavily-armored units on the field in my local metagame. If you drop a Fire Warrior, you can almost add a Fusion Blaster onto your Crisis Suit. The jet pack makes it a phenomenal assassin unit, popping in front of and then back behind walls (impassable terrain in Kill Team), and would be good insurance to take down a Terminator with no saves on a 50/50 roll. Or, y'know, whatever armored unit your opponent may have. Those 2+ saves can be killer with only light infantry around.

...unless your opponent is playing 'Nids or something.

In the end I went with this:
Crisis Suit leader In a Iridium Battlesuit using a Cycling Ion Blaster and Plasma Rifle, Vectored retro thrusters, Shield generator and Advanced Targeting System at 120 point.
One Stealth suit at 30
10 Fire Warriors with bonding knife ritual for 100 points.
What do people think?
Should I switch out the Cycling Ion Blaster for a fusion?
So far registered opposition are: 1 Ork, 1 Eldar, 3 marines and myself as Tau. I was thinking the Ion might be good against orks.
