Really digging the MT Scions models, so I decided to do up a squad of them in tan and shout RANGERS LEAD THE WAY as the game progresses. Leader - Tempestor Prime, Extra Frag and Krak grenade Special - 2x Tempestor, Extra Krak Core - 8x Scions with Hot-shot Lasguns 1 Scion with Grenade Launcher and Medi-pack 2x Hot-shot volley Gun Scions 14 Models total What do you guys think? Thinking about doing something similar. Tempestor Prime - 30 Scions x 8 (1 medic) Tempestor Scout Sentinel with Multilaser. |

I have been playing a team with about 50% Scions in my local campaign. They are really nice especially against 3+ saves, and those Hot-shot Volley Guns can really tear things up if they get to fire their full salvo. A bit of advice is to get at least one or two sources of AP2, e.g. plasma guns. Scions really struggles against 2+, since the hot-shot lasguns don't have the strength to accumulate enough wounds to bring meanies down through attrition. If you run the team with only Tempestor Prime, Scions and Tempestors you can compensate for this by using the Orders from the Militarum Tempestus book and give them rending vs. 2+. |

I would also drop the vox casters. Doing diddly for 5 points, as the tempestor doesn't have a squad to have a vox attached to. Stick to tempestus models for those orders, and get AP2 where you can. I have 2 plasma guns and a melta gun in my list to get around those tougher customers. While anecdotal, giving my prime a power maul really helped with close combats, and against guard or the like, let him wreck face with enemy squads/4+ or worse armour. |

All right I updated my list: Leader - Tempestor Prime, Extra Frag and Krak grenade Special - 2x Tempestor, Extra Krak Core - 8x Scions with Hot-shot Lasguns, 1 Scion with Grenade Launcher and Medi-pack, 2x Hot-shot volley Gun Scions 14 Models total. My first list wasn't even legal because I had 9 Scions and 2 Tempestors (1 per 5). Removed the dud voxes, gave the medic a grenade launcher, took on a couple more HS Lasgun Scions. |

I take it that 2+ armour is a non-issue for you? If so, this list looks good. Someone plops a bunch of terminators on the table, though, and you're in for a rough time. I would drop one tempestor upgrade in favour of a meltagun, or if you can fit it a plasma gun. Unless you're really needing two groups of scions and a boost to order rolls, that meltagun is a much wiser invesment of points. Remember that the prime can issue an order to himself, so can lead half your models, and the other tempestor the other half, to recieve orders and give out the bonus. Though I personally would want to have as many models in the medic's FNP bubble as possible, splitting forces like this on the table can give some flexibility. |

That makes sense. Terminators aren't really an issue, as my two brothers I play with also just make fun, fluffy lists. I like the idea of a "symmetrical" list because I can split my team intwo two different teams, with a separate command element, like how real-world small unit tactics work. And there is an order which gives Scions rending, correct? Don't have my codex on hand right now, but hopefully that'll take care of the few 2+ Sv models I'll run into. |

The rending order is limited to vehicles/mosnstrous creatures, sadly. However, there's another one that makes hot-shot lasguns and laspistols sniper! That's a bit better, as you'll wound on 4s all the time with it instead of 5s. No rapid-firing, though. |

You also have a Tempestus command that gives Scions Twin-Linked. With a good gunline, you'll be sure to put a dent in there. With your formation, you might want some advance planning to protect you for a turn and get the full power out of the Volley Guns out and then give the command so you could level Termies quicker. |

If only you could just take vets with hotshots. Also, are you playing with or without FEF rules? 'Cos if so you can only take a special weapon at 1, 6 and 11. Edited by Tack, 29 Sep 2014, 09:35 PM.

The one I came up with goes a little something like this. Team Leader Tempestor Prime - 75pts (I have a hard time not making my leaders cost a lot) Power Sword Camo Gear Tempestus Standard Special Tempestor Plasma Pistol Auspex Medic Carapace Armor Camo Gear Hot Shot Lasgun Upgrade Ratlings x3 (Group) Core Tempestus Scions x5 (Group) Standard Gear Tempestus Scion x2 (Group) Melta GUn x1 |
