Tyranids KT: Help from the Hive Lord requested; List discussion for a new player getting into Tyranids

Hi All,

New here and new to the game. Wanted to add some flavor to our group's KT Campaign, so instead of adding a third variation of SM's to the mix, I decided to get buggy and play around with some Tyranids. The way see it, there are a couple of ways this force could go working within 250pts. now that I have a Forward Base.

1) The way I have it: As it currently stands, my list is really "swarmy". A giant Broodlord, a couple of stealers, and two broods of each termagants and hormagaunts (points and details below). In reserve to make up the remaining 50pts. I have simply added bodies with two vanilla Hormagaunt Broods.

200pt List:
1x Broodlord (Scything Talons, Force Evolution) - 74pts.
2x Genestealers (Scything Talons) - 36 pts.
2x Termagant Broods - 40pts.
2x Hormagaunt Broods - 50pts.
Total - 200pts.

250pt Adds:
2x Hormagaunt Broods

or

2) I take a more elite approach. Take far less dudes, but take as many vanilla stealers as possible, with a BLord. Do he added rending claw attacks from more stealers make up for lack of Talons?

What I am looking for are any and all suggestions on how to improve this list or change it entirely. Beyond the two options listed above which to me seem the two most viable, it seems like there are a BUNCH of options I'm probably not even aware of. Thank you in advance, and I look forward to hearing what you have to say. KT Nids list below for convenience.

After following some other discussions about it, I would consider maybe changing from a Brood Lord to a Warrior Alpha with extended carapace for a 3+, Rending claws, Barbed Strangler and Shrike Wings. This way you have a pretty mobile, tough Team Leader who can throw that large blast around.

Also, while I personally like a mix of the gaunts, the more common internet wisdom seems to be to go all out on termagaunts.

If you want some infilitrating CC, maybe replace the Genestealers (and something else) with a Lictor? Either infiltrate or deep strike with him, go to ground when needed for awesome cover and then use your 24" synapse jump infrantry Team Leader to bring it within fearless-range and make it get up again and assault to your hearts content. :)

Great suggestions, Erorior. I agree that while Broodlord is strong, a Warrior Alpha is definitely the way to go. I was actually thinking recently of going 1 Shrike Alpha, 2 shrikes, 3 gargoyle broods, 3 stealers. Still nets me 21 models on the field, 18 of which will either have an 18" range and decent close combat tricks, gene stealers can roam as their own pack of lethal close combat scariness.

Ooo, that sounds like some fast, scary death. The genestealer pack can be your assassin hit squad to get the jump on lone heavy weapons models.

Try it out and tell us how it went! There are too few battle reports in HoR-Kill Team these days! :)

His first game with the new team is today. If he doesn't send the after action, I will.
