With campaign weekends running dry in our area and those we did attend having quite a few WAAC attendees, a group of us put our heads together to try and organise our own big events, with hope of running more in the future. Our name is a very non-creative 'Big Cap Battles'. Some took it literally and wore outstanding, silly hats. We had our first big game this year at Burton's Beer & Pretzels event. Previously I've run big games at our local club and Games Expo, but this was the most enjoyable, stress-free and personal for us. We felt very welcome at the event and drew a lot of interest - "a spectacle", to quote the organiser. My brother's blog of the event is here: http://neiloforange.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/40k-apocalypse-big-cap-battle.html We'd like to run more throughout the year, but being careful of over-exerting ourselves. Most of us are scratch builders, others simply have the mettle to buy big toys. Most importantly, we play to enjoy the game, not to win. With the success at B&P, we hope to maintain a presence there each year as out big game of the year (unless we grow!). For each game, we want to have a theme - the last one was walkers. We had no tanks, flyers and very limited infantry. Escalation rules meant we only had a sensible amount of models in play at any given time, slowly building up the power, so everything had its moment before being blown way by the bigger toys. It worked well! Next year, we're doing a scenario based on 'Operation Ironclad'. This will involve a sea-borne invasion on a defended island. Two attackers - Tau/Eldar and Orks, against a defensive force of Imperial/Chaos silhouette. One major influence on the choice is the desire to build some crazy Ork naval creations. I would like to offer invitation to anyone here to take part. We'll be planning the event throughout the year - we need the time to build everything. Everyone is welcome to take part, whether they only have 1 boat or a titan. The more creative your models, the better. This really is about playing the hobby, not winning a game. |

The naval scenario sounds a blast, I was thinking about building some 40k boats this year this might be a good opportunity to use them! |

That would be great! There's growing excitement over the idea of using boats, so we may well follow this up with a purely naval scenario in the future
