Hi everybody, and welcome to my newest log of insanity. As I'm sure many of you have, I've been reading the Horus Heresy series, and as I'm sure many of you will agree, its an excellent series. ![]() Now I've decided to devote my horde of FW marine Mks to the dark gods, and do the main protagonist forces of the Sons of Horus legion. I'll be doing them in the Sea green scheme, the sort of interim scheme between the Lunar Wolves and the Black Legion schemes, I think it will look striking on the tabletop, and more importantly to me be fun to paint and weather. This is my first WIP model: ![]() As I hope you can see, there is alot of Imperial fist casualties going on here, one because I think the yellow will look great as a spot colour/counterpoint and it sets them at the Siege of Terra, or just after when the Sons were chased into the eye. I will be using the SW list, because its more competitive then the regular SM one (though we'll see what happens in 6th), plus I get to run terminators as troops, and since the SoH used them extensively, I think it fits. Sons of Horus: 1750 HQ: Logan Grimnar - 275 ELITES: Dreadnought - 105 Multi-melta - 0 Drop pod - 35 = 140 Dreadnought - 105 Multi-melta - 0 Drop pod - 35 = 140 TROOPS: Wolf Guard Pack (9) - 162 2x Combi-flamer - 10 3x Combi-melta - 15 3x Combi-plasma, melta bomb - 20 3x Storm shield - 75 Drop pod - 35 = 312 Wolf Guard Pack (4) - 72 4x terminator armour - 60 WG# 1 - Combi-melta, Frostblade - 15 WG# 2 - Combi-melta, Power weapon - 5 WG# 3 - Thunderhammer, Stormshield - 30 WG# 4 - Chainfist, Stormshield - 30 Drop pod - 35 = 247 Wolf Guard Pack (5) - 90 5x terminator armour - 75 WG# 1 - Combi-melta, Frostblade - 15 WG# 2 - Combi-flamer, power weapon - 5 WG# 3 - Thunderhammer, Stormshield - 30 WG# 4 - Chainfist, Stormshield - 30 WG# 5 - Combi-metla, power weapon, melta bomb - 10 Drop pod - 35 = 300 Grey Hunters (8) - 120 2x plasma - 20 Drop pod - 35 = 175 Grey Hunters (8) - 120 2x Melta - 10 Drop pod - 35 = 165 Total = 1749 Any ideas on poses, themes, names, markings etc would be greatly appreciated. |

Now this should be good. Bit brave taking on the sea-green scheme though ![]() As for ideas, the obvious choice for your counts as Logan is Abaddon, even though he didn't have the talon yet - he was always pictured with a power fist and a sword of some kind, though im sure he'd have a storm/combi bolter slung somewhere. After that you've got the Justaerin Terminators in black armour (same as Abby). After that it'd be a case of running through the old Sabertooth CCG that was about a few years ago for squad names - most of the cards are reproduced online somewhere, shouldn't be too hard to find. |

Go post in someone's topic that you normally wouldn't
|
Instead of finding the CCG list you can look through the HH artbook which has most of the info reproduced with the art. |

Thanks guys ![]() El D: I'm trying to stay away from the named characters and companies. As far as I remember, not all terminators were part of the Justaerin, and although abby is cool, and I will do him, I want to represent another company, after all the Sons were a legion of over 100000(not an exact number) Space marines, I'm sure the Mournival didn't fight in every action! |

Can't wait to see what you are going to do with this sheep. I my self just started reading Horus Rising. BUT if I remember correct you can't post exact point cost because it violates GW's copyright.

All fair points, and to be honest probably the way i'll go when I get round to my own Pre-Heresy force. Depends on how far you want to go down that particular rabbit hole really. @Gerner - don't worry about points, Sheep has only posted totals, not breakdowns which is a no-no (something im sure Sheep already knows )

That marine in the hand sweet bejesus it is beautiful and a color I very much like ![]() SoH is my main Pre-Heresy army I am a bit of a nut too. Every compaqny had a termie squad it was just the Justaerin and Katulan Reavers(1co jumpack assault) who had black armor. Regular termies are used to attack the mountain fortress in the whisperlands. How are you going to do the green? I use Vallejo Panzer Aces 336 afrika korps tankcrew and 329 highlight russ I tnkr at 50/50 however I think new GW Skarsnick green and Dawnstone 60/40 might look great. There are tons of named captains you can use that are not main characters Luc Sedrie,Tybalt Marr,Seghar Targost the lodgemaster )if you want to go a bit toward the chaos side,I would think his company would of been the first tio start adding chaos iconography.) Cannot wait to see what you do. BTW did you see the new Spartan Land Raider drool... |

Sounds good mate, looking forward to another of your bastardised Space Wolf armies! ![]() In terms of markings don't forget to do centurion-esque helmet plumes for your more significant leaders. In terms of poses, experiment with some old, crappy marine legs in terms of cutting up the leg joints and rearranging them, or cutting feet out of place and switching their angle. The ribbed bits are particularly easy to hack up and resculpt and you can get some great results. In terms of names try one of the many random generators out there, or dredge up minor ones from books - even if they get killed there's always the possibility that some of their names were "common" on their homeworld Or pick a theme you like (like weapons, certain types of animal) and translate it into an ancient language like latin or gaelic, it's what I did for one of my abortive marine projects. More than happy to have an input if you like.

As a matter of fact everyone in the luna wolves/sons of horus who has access to or wears terminator armour is part of the 1st company so would be part of the justaerin. just sayin' |

Ooh, I shall definitely be watching this one, funnily enough I have just started re-reading the series, am about half way through False Gods, it is a great series. Everything is looking great so far, love the Imperial Fist casualty. I really must pick up some FW Marines, would love to do mid-Heresy Emperor's Children, but to be honest will prob end up doing some Pre-Heresy Ultras. I like the fact that you won't be including the Mournival, but it would be nice to see some other bits from the books. Maybe a remembrancer or a squad of Emperor's Children? Also I notice you have a fair amount of power weapons in your list. The rules in 6th for power weapons are now more detailed, there is a difference between power swords and power axes, and it's quite a biggy so just so you know. I only say because in 5th the rules were the same, so my Death Company have a mix of both, but now thanks to WYSIWYG they are bit nerfed. Edited by StraightSilver, 28 Jun 2012, 02:26 PM.

Thanks for the interest and comments guys, I've been a bit busy with a new uni entrance course I'm doing, and work, but I managed to cobble together this Sgt over the last couple of days. He took alot more time and fiddling around then I anticipated, the combination of various Mks of armour give a nice feel I think, and is something I can see happening during a protracted siege like the siege of Terra.![]() The arms are from the plastic CSM set, and are a nice analogue for Mk2 once your file off the extraneous detail. I hope to have the first 5-10 men finished by the end of next week, but that may blow out due to my time being taken up by work/uni entrance course I started a couple of weeks ago. I also wrote alittle bit of fluff while I should have been listening to a lecture: "Yes. I was there, at the end. I fought on the world that had cradled our race, where sky and earth touched, on the walls of a false gods hubris and conceit. I watched as demi gods clawed and grappled, murdered and speared each other. I saw the fists of Dorn bleed and die, the angels of Sanguinius weeping tears of blood as they were cast from the heavens, the Khans barbarian hordes unhorsed by bolter fire. I saw my brothers die, in ignominy, uncelebrated by an empire we spent 300 years forging in blood and battle. But mostly I remember hearing the laughter of the uncaring gods as we failed, and Horus died, and the bitter taste of defeat like ash in my throat. That was your glorious siege whelp, and damn you for making me speak of it" - Captain Tyberadon 17th company, formerly Sons of Horus Not sure in what context that would be delivered, maybe to a new recruit before they became the black legion or something. Bigwill: Do you have link to your pics of SoH army? I'd be interested to see the colour. As for the names etc, I'm glad there is a precedent for the regular companies to have their own terminator elite, the black scheme looks cool, I want the continuity of the army to be unbroken by a large patch of black in their midst maybe down the line I'll do some black.I did see the spartan! And I'll be getting one to use as a LR when I can afford/need it ![]() Tim: Thanks for the tips mate, but this isn't the first cat I've [well, someone needs a cool off period]ed I'm pretty keen to see what I can do with the FW resin, though I do find it harder to work with then regular plastic. Helmet plumes are a go ![]() If you feel the fluff itch mate I'd be more then happy for you to have a run at some for me once I have some established names ![]() Kev: Not listening to you ![]() Straightsilver: Thanks mate, I really love your Ultras, so thats some high praise. I haven't actually read the rules for 6th yet, still waiting for my book to be delivered, so the list may change, plus I fell like just modeling some models for the fun of it. Thanks for looking. |

Sheep, mate, you piece of fluff there about the end is awesome, really liked that as it set's the modd of the legion just after the siege so well. As has been said before, the dead marine in the Contemptor's fist is brilliant, however i must prefer the sergeant, that model is just lovely with the posing and parts used. - Sachiel |

Of course I have the utmost confidence bud ![]() The sergeant looks the business. Is that corpse just a lighter-coloured FW MkV marine? Expensive casualty if so But I like what you've done with mixing the different armour types, I always thought MkIV with a few extensions would look good.Funny that you wrote that piece of fluff actually as I was just writing a piece with a Night Lord's recollections of the siege and the "terror raids" the eighth carried out. You could always put it in context as a retrospective tirade by one of your Sons far in the future when they have become the Black Legion... Or maybe he's schooling an Imperial Marine from one of the non-siege chapters/post-siege-recruited Imperial Fist before he slams down his blade? Drama, I like

Thanks guys Phil: the yellow resin is stuff I cast myself, the plume is actually from sicarius, I just made the "U" into a gem before I molded it. Tim: home cast, so not as expensive, just a pain the arse to get right lol, need a degassing chamber to get rid of the air bubbles. I'll figure out what context it goes in once I have some more fluff ideas rattling around my head down on paper. I was thinking that most of the sons warriors that weren't purged at istvaan, of dubious loyalty to the warmaster would be thrown on the walls of the imperial palace, so I could write something about them creating a breach but being left out to dry by reinforcements etc. Sachiel: thanks mate, really happy with it actually, not normally a creative writer Kem: he'll be an imperial fist I think, but I was toying with the idea of doing corpses from all of the loyalist legions defending terra for variety. |
