Evening all, Recently I've been working on models for a whole range of games including Blood Bowl, Malifaux, Puppet Wars, Fairy Meat and, most recently, Infinity. I find that having a painting log helps keep me focused on my projects, so hopefully this will be the start of one to cover all these projects in one place. Before I get to my current projects I want to bring this thread up to date with the models that I've already finished. First up, Seamus and his crew - the first of my four Malifaux crews; ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hope you like them. More pictures to follow soon... - Dave |

Very nice Dave. Really like the face on the Leprechaun and the red on the dead(?) ladies dress. Always a pleasure to see nicely painted models. Edited by PDH, 15 May 2012, 09:54 PM.

Thanks. The woman in the red dress with knives is Bête Noire - a spirit who's drawn to dead and often exacts bloody vengeance on those who have taken a life. I think she's one of the best of the Malifaux models I've painted - I was really happy with how she turned out. I should apologise for some of these photos being so dark. These were taken before I got my light box set up satisfactorily. I was going to retake them at the weekend, but found that the bulb in one of my lamps had gone and I didn't have a spare. I'll try to get photos of the next crew uploaded tonight... Edited by Kaled, 16 May 2012, 06:13 AM.

Evening all, Here's my second crew for Malifaux. So there's Lady Justice, the Judge, the three Death Marshalls with their coffins, the Scale of Justice, the Executioner and a Guild Austringer. Overall I think these might be my best painted crew, even if the colour scheme is rather unimaginative. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Both my Lady Justice and Seamus crews are shortly going to get new members. Seamus will be joined by Molly Squidpiddge and a Convict Gunslinger, and Lady Justice by a Guild Guardian. I've only played one game of Malifaux so far - I really need to find people who play - but I am thinking I'd like to expand Justice's crew further but I'm not sure who else to get. I'm considering a second Austringer or maybe another Construct, or perhaps a member of the Ortega family - if anyone has any suggestions, let me know. - Dave |

You can still get the Fairy Meat rulebook in PDF form, or there's some QuickStart rules available to download free on BoardGameGeek. As for models, quite a few companies who sell suitable models, but I managed to pick up enough of the official models by shopping around - plus they crop up on eBay every so often. I was going to post this when I post pics of my fairies in a day or so, but since you mentioned it, I wrote a review/battle report for Fairy Meat over at Precinct Omega; http://www.precinctomega.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=422.0 Anyone who's curious about the idea of a 1:1 scale wargame involving cannibalistic fairies might find it interesting... |

Evening all, The next of my Malifaux crews is Colette and her showgirls. The first of these were painted a few months ago, but the last few are some of my most recent models - I finished them less than a week ago. So first up there's Collette Du Bois, Cassandra, two performers with their mannequins, three mechanical doves and Angelica. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Next is the two Coryphee. For those of you unfamiliar with Malifaux, two Coryphee can dance either separately or together on one base. Rather than paint two lots of models I did what a lot of people do and magnetised them so they could go on either two 40mm bases or on one 50mm base. The crouching one was easy to magnetise, but the one standing on one foot was a lot more difficult. In the end I decided to pin the model to a trapdoor made from 2mm thick plasticard, and then embed four small magnets in that. It took a while to get the bases right, but I think it was well worth the effort. ![]() ![]() Tomorrow I'll post the last of my Malifaux crews, which also includes a few models that I finished in the last week or so, then I'll post some pics of the fairies, and that'll about bring this thread up to date so I can start showing what I'm working on at the moment. In other news, I finally got some new bulbs so should be able to show better photos in future... - Dave |

Afternoon all, Here's the last of the crews that I've done so far for Malifaux. There's the alternate version of Pandora, Candy and Baby Kade. Then there's the three Sorrows, a Doppelganger and an Insidious Madness. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I later returned to this crew and added a few more models - the twins Lilitu and Lelu, and Teddy. ![]() ![]() ![]() Teddy is probably my favourite of these and was a lot of fun to paint - I was especially happy with the tartan on his belly. Now to go do some painting... I'll probably come back later and post pictures of the fairies, but I'm always happy to read comments, suggestions or criticism. - Dave |

I really like the muscle on the back of the Doppleganger. I also like how you made Lilitu's dress look almost sheer. The nice paintjob on Lelu looks plain when you put it against the rest of this Krew. Shame really. |

Please post more. Everything looks fantastic. Some wonderfully layered flesh tones and you make Malifaux look tempting to me for the umpteenth time. What primer are you working from? What paints do you use? And can we see more WIPs to get an idea of progress? Anyway, wonderful stuff. The Popester is a fan. |

Ah! I remember where I had seen pictures of these models before. Over on the Malifaux forum! Always a fan of your painting, the tartan on the Teddy is fantastic. As someone who hates painting tartans, you have one of the best techniques I have yet to encounter. (never ever ever ever start a Napoleonic's project with 80 highlanders....) |

Thanks for the kind comments.
I'm loving Malifaux. I have only played one game, but the rules seem very good and the background is great. Plus there's nothing I hate more than painting armies of pretty much identical models, so Malifaux with it's low model count and varied models is perfect for me. Plus the models are excellent - the quality is great and they have a lot of character. I can definitely recommend them.
Recently I've been working from a Citadel black spray undercoat, but I sometimes use white. Generally I like white for models that have been extensively converted because it's easier to see flaws on a model that's been undercoated white - black hides too much. My paints are mostly GW ones - many of which I've had for years (some I've had for 20 years and they're still going strong, whereas the newer ones dry out a lot quicker). You'll get to see some WIPs soon. After I finish the two I'm working at at the moment I'll post WIPs of the next five - three more Malifaux models and two for Infinity. Anyway, on to the fairies... After much shopping around I managed to get six fairies, four moon fairies and two gnomes (only one of which has been painted so far). I'm currently working on two Clock Fairies to join the gnome's warband, which might be finished tonight or, failing that, tomorrow. First up is Sparkysnip, a maniacal hunter fairy armed with a crystal blade; ![]() - Back - Next is Glitterpuff - a hardcore fairy armed with press-on claws and a spritecarver; ![]() - Back - Then Moonsauce - a wild fairy armed with a vibromaster; ![]() - Back - This little guy is Thornyzink - a fairly innocent wild fairy; ![]() Back Next is Rainbowspit - a hardened fairy; ![]() Back And then Pollytwink - a glitter fairy; ![]() Back Then we're on to the glam rock loving moon fairies... First, Summerboots - a star fairy who's the lead singer of my moon fairy band. He's armed with press-on nails and carries a amplification rod; ![]() - Back - Second is Trixiestomp - a rocker fairy; ![]() Back Next is Flowergiggle - a Glammer fairy; ![]() - Back - And the last fairy is the Lunar Guard Lollywing in his painted armour; ![]() Back Finally for today is Rexgear Evanston the gnome; ![]() Right - Back - Left And a picture of him with a couple of fairies for scale; ![]() The fairies have been some of the most fun to paint models I've done in a long while. It's been nice to paint a lot of bright colours for a change, and the bases have been fun to do. I still need to come up with something for the bases of the two Clock Fairies - I guess I'll raid the junk drawer again and see what I can find... - Dave EDIT:
Yeah, I was posting them over there, but have decided I want everything in one place rather than having threads going all over the place - and since Ammobunker caters for all these games and has a strong Inquisitor community, then it seemed like the perfect place to start a new painting log. Killer Gnome :O I really enjoy how you took that extra step on the bases for the fairies to show how small they are by adding real world objects. |

Well, Dave, I'm glad you are posting these here. Obviously I never would've seen any of this over on the Conclave. Fairy Meat seems really interesting - particularly warped. I didn't pay much attention as I skimmed through the battle report - thinking "oh, he's just using stand-in scenery..." but then when I realised it was a 1:1 scale wargame and they actually were fighting over your kitchen, it was too awesome for words. Fantastic stuff! |

Morning all, Molotov - that's one really nice thing about Fairy Meat, you don't need terrain - you can play it (almost) anywhere. The rulebook has a few suggestions of good places to play such as 'A local forest preserve' or 'That filthy mess you call a bedroom', and bad places to play such as 'The middle of the road', 'Prison (unless you're already there)' and 'On a table being used by other gamers (the fairies landed here and started fighting! Honest! ...Ow, hey! Give me back my tooth!)'. Hot off my painting table are the Clock Fairies that I finished just last night. Clock Fairies are constructed by gnomes, with the head of a fairy, and are so called because they are usually built with a clock in their chest so they can be hung on the wall when not in use. Rexgear, my gnome, simply calls these two Red and Blue, but much to his annoyance they have named themselves Cybertulip and Giggletron. ![]() - Back - ![]() - Back - I couldn't find any of the original model (1, 2), so had to convert some, but I think they turned out pretty well. The big problem was finding propellers - I was going to use Lego ones, but they turned out to be too chunky so had to buy some resin ones for 1:72 aircraft and cut then down a little. I was especially happy with their heads as I had to sculpt those - well, I started out with a press mould of their faces, then re-sculpted all the detail that had been lost and finally added the rest of their heads and hair. On the subject of Fairy Meat models I haven't been able to find - there are two more I want. First up there's hatbot - a walking explosive gnomes hat. I could sculpt the hat part, but if anyone has any ideas for robot legs then that would help me a great deal. (For reference, the hat will be about 2cm tall and about 1.5cm in diameter at the base.) And secondly there's a gremlin - a funny looking little imp-like thing less than an inch tall. I had thought of using an ork squig or suchlike, but the ones I've found so far are all a bit vicious looking and not mischievous enough. And finally for today, here's a look at what's waiting to be painted next... ![]() And while I was typing all that, my order from Heresy Miniatures arrived (I only placed the order yesterday!) - mostly modelling supplies, such as ProCreate, but I also got these three models; ![]() Not the best photo, but that's Dr. Frankenmuller, who'll be the Igor for my Necromantic Blood Bowl team, Nerdlord II and Emily Lake (who in no way resemble characters from a long-running BBC sci-fi show!). - Dave |

Normally my username gives that away. Now I need to get a police box from Hasslefree Miniatures so I can build a little diorama - in fact, now that I think about it I've seen 28mm Doctor Who monsters somewhere...
My plan is to paint Infinity models next, but I know I'll get bored painting the same colours over and over, so I got the Malifaux and Heresy models to mix things up a little and keep my interest up. Edited by Kaled, 20 May 2012, 09:23 AM.

Aha, the Kaled did make me think of Doctor Who, but once I knew an Indian lad named Kaled so it pays to not make assumptions. Then again, considering the white male demographic that dominates the hobby I should have guessed. I'd really like to get hold of some of the Doctor Who miniatures that were produced by Harlequin. They are a bit shoddy but they made miniatures of nearly everything. I'd love to paint an Alpha Centauri. They are so rare now though and always seem to cost a bomb on the 'Bay. I remember when my LGS had nearly all the range in stock on sale and I didn't bother... |
