So welcome to my latest in a long line of project logs on this august forum. As the title says, I'm taking part in yet another tournament at the end of the month, and true to form I was suckered into another bet to complete a new army for it. I will also be using these guys to take part in the battle for Cerberus campaign being run by Doghouse. Unfortunately I lost a lot of time to injury Spoiler: click to toggle being laid up in hospital, and then in a bed without access to my models for over a fortnight. I've been losing a lot of time to a new girlfriend too, but that's a bit more fun ![]() Anyway, enough waffle, here's the pics of my progress. Sorry for the quality. The list if you're interested. Spoiler: click to toggle Firstly my Doom of Malantai, it's a conversion of the stock finecast zoanthrope, I cut the tail off, built an armature of wire, and puttied it with a plumbing expoy called knead-it, that sets hard, then skinned it in gs, before a final couple of coats of thinned liquid GS to smooth it out. The spines are from the mawloc kit. ![]() Next is the tyrannofex, I wasn't thrilled with the design they went for, I much prefer the codex illustration, showing the gun integrated into the lower jaw of the model. So I converted it by cutting the lower jaws off, gluing the gun to the tervigon egg sac (to represent copious amounts of ammo) and then GS'd the lower jaws to the sides of the gun, and blended the arms, jaws and egg sac together with GS. ![]() Thirdly I have my two mawlocs. Both of these have been converted to look as though they are bursting from the ground, not sitting on top of it (basing will further add to this) and to have a second set of jaws. I used the trygons normal jaws, then trimmed and glued the mawloc mandibles to the back of the jaw bone, build and armature of brass wire between the two sets, and GS'd webbing ontop of that. ![]() ![]() Finally I have a pic of HALF the termagants I require for this list. The only "conversion" I've done to them is to bend their tails to give the models a little bit more movement and character. ![]() Thanks for looking, I hope to have started painting tmrw once I get my airbrush set up again. Yup, I've done the same to tails - it's ALL you can expect when you need to paint so many! But DAMN! That's a LOT of tervigons!!!!! |

Oooh, Nids from you! The Malantai conversion is simple looking but makes it really distinct. I especially, especially, especially love the spines in the head. The Mawlocs also look great bursting from the ground. Actually, I really want a plastic Hive Tyrant. I've wanted them to do that for years and years. What's the scheme gonna be? Owt spesh? |

That is a lot of Tervigons - Im really don't envy you with the amount of Termagants your going to have to paint! Is this army going to be the same colour scheme as your old ones or something new? The injury looks nasty - I had wondered where you had gone. |

Great to see another log from you mate, some lovely conversions. As for the ankle, was it really a case of whilst lying on the floor, presumably in a small bit of pain, you took a picture of it? Got you priorites right, I suspect I would have gone with a lot of swearing. |

Good to see your back on the 40k bandwagon mate. As always your conversions are awesome. Can I expect to see these at QM2? Hope the injury heals up quick mate. Cheers SARGE |

Thanks for all the comments gents. Ricky: I've done nids before, but just in the boring behemoth scheme, search "Hivefleet Ovis" if you're interested These ones are going to be an experiment in aribrushing, I've managed to preshade a tank, now I want to see if I can do it to a nid. They will be similar to the scheme by Hydra, on the forum Warpshadow. Olive/khaki green skin, purple weapons and lower jaws, flesh bio morphs and a black to green/yellow fade on the carapace. I have yet to test the scheme using the airbrush, so I hope it doesn't look like [Not on the floor please]. ST154: like I said above, the injury has knocked me around alot actually, had no motivation to do anything since, but the looming deadline of this tournament and the $100 bet that goes with it has motivated me some what ![]() Dave: lol, you git. Fireangel: double compound dislocation of my left ankle. Hurt like a bitch. And has put my plans of rejoining the army on ice ![]() PCdave: Yeah mate, I sat up to see what was going on, and inbetween swearing my hole off took the pic, I actually took several, but thats the only one that wasn't blurry. Phil: Yeah mate, I sent my list off yesterday, so hopefully I can get enough of these painted to make a good showing, locked into nids now. |

If you search Hivefleet Ovis you may find some guy called The Antipope made several comments. I should have worded my question more clearly. I meant anything special (ie: South Yorkshire slang for 'different') or just like your old Nids (which again in Yorkshire speak would not imply that *wasn't* special, just that it had been seen before. Bloody Australians. What kind of Airbrush are you packing these days? You can use any old thing to airbrush a tank, but doing a Nid with a lower quality brush to the standard you're talking about could be difficult. You know you're airbrushes though. I guess you have summink nice. And this image is what stops me from ever, EVER considering Nids. It looks like the most boring job in the world...I think I'd cut my own wrists with the Exacto while even preparing them. Edited by The Antipope, 8 May 2012, 08:30 AM.

I see, well forgive me for not speaking the Queens English like a native ![]() As to the airbrush, I have an Iwata C plus .02 needle, so it can do some pretty fine work once I get the paint consistency right, which is half the challenge of decent airbrush results. I really hope I can pull it off, otherwise I'll just have to resort to the behemoth scheme, or just lose interest and bin the army. And the never ending parade of pain that is cleaning and painting termagants is starting to challenge my sanity, though its providence was already in question for even considering this army in the first place. Queens English? I'm talking about Yorkshire dialect lad! None of that poncy Southern shite! You got the same Iwata as me... That means you are fine. Probably. Edited by The Antipope, 8 May 2012, 09:12 AM.

I have 140ish termagants, and I'm not sure thats enough for the army at full production. A mate and I rolled it out one afternoon, and the most mini me's produced was 195 in five turns, and the least was 75. so a pretty broad spread. |

Maybe I'm stupid but in your list I can only see 23 Termagants... Why so many? |

Each tervigon can produce 3D6 free termagants at the begining of each movement phase, only stopping production on the roll of a double. So the ideal roll of 15 (6,5,4) x4, for 5 turns = potential for 300 gants! Extremely unlikey, but scary for everyone if if happens! |

Would be an impressive sight and fun way to play them. My only concern would be against a canny player (or at least one with an ounce of common sense), they'd look to take down the tervigons as soon as possible to stop production. The thing is no threat at range either. You could use your other two troop choices and stick in something to distract the opponent (warriors / genestealers?)

How much beating tervigons can take? Does one need lots of lascannons or just brave IG squad to take it down? Will be interesting to see the Nids in paint. Will there be poor lads of IG torn apart on the bases etc? |
